It’s somewhat fitting that a show so adept at exploring the unknown would find itself facing the unknown more often than not, which was often the case with the Paramount Plus cult hit horror series “Evil.”
The show, which followed a small team of “assessors” working for the Catholic church investigating all types of supernatural mysteries ranging from possessions to miracles, premiered to healthy buzz on CBS in 2019 and rave reviews from horror fans. But ratings were more modest by the end of Season 1, so Paramount opted to make the series a streaming exclusive on its fledgling (at the time) streaming service Paramount Plus.
After initially jumping from broadcast to streaming to survive potential cancelation, “Evil” would manage to hang on for four seasons and a total of 50 episodes, before wrapping its run in August of 2024 just in time for a full Halloween season binge. Paramount chose to end...

Things are certainly heating up on Elsbeth Season 2 Episode 2. This series is known for being extra, and it did not disappoint with another installment of this sensational show.
This episode, while drawing on multiple themes, secretly weaved a well-rounded episodic case. I’m not sure why the episode was titled “The Wrong Stuff,” though.
For an Elsbeth episode, the title is rather vague. Considering the twists and turns, I would’ve titled this episode something like “Going Up In Flames” or “Out Of The Fire Into Space.”
(Michael Parmelee/CBS)
However, what this episode lacked in creative titling, it more than made up for in an incredibly entertaining episode. Elsbeth continues to deliver more than audiences hope for and exceeds expectations.

After being delayed several months by the writers strike and the actors strike, season 5 of the hit Netflix series Stranger Things (which is also the last season of the show) finally went into production at the start of the year and is now deep into its twelve month shooting schedule… and during an appearance at the Happy Sad Confused podcast’s 10th anniversary celebration, cast member David Harbour said the series finale will be worth the wait, because it’s the best episode they’ve ever done.
Stranger Things has the following synopsis: A love letter to the ‘80s classic genre films that captivated a generation, Stranger Things is a thrilling drama set in the seemingly normal Midwestern town of Hawkins, Indiana. After a boy vanishes into thin air, his close-knit group of friends and family search for answers and are pulled into a high-stakes and deadly series of events.

Michael Emerson is joining “Elsbeth” in a recurring role as a haughty judge, CBS announced Sunday at the series’ New York Comic-Con panel. His first episode will air on Dec. 12.
The “Evil” star has been married to “Elsbeth” lead Carrie Preston since 1998 and they often work together.

Parker Finn's 2022 horror film "Smile" has a novel premise and a monster that is difficult to describe. The film begins when the lead character, a therapist named Rose (Sosie Bacon), has a strange encounter with a student, Laura (Caitlin Stasey). Laura is in a panic, having spent several day beset by hallucinations. She has been seeing people she knows appearing out of nowhere and grinning at her fiendishly. She knows these people are, in fact, a singular shapeshifting demon of some kind, and it is encouraging her to die by suicide. Then, as she predicted, Laura also pastes on a bleak, intense smile, and slits her throat right in front of Rose.
Rose soon begins experiencing similar hallucinations, wherein people she knows appear in her mind's eye, all of them wearing a scary rictus. Rose soon discovers that the grinning entity is an ancient supernatural creature that feeds on trauma.

If you tell anyone that your significant other has somehow been replaced by a demon who walks/talks/behaves similarly but not quite like the person; then chances are they’re not gonna believe you. Quite naturally, when Michelle tries to tell her friend cum neighbor, Kim, that her husband John is not quite the John she knows; Kim finds it hard to believe. She even jokingly brings up things like body snatching and all that; before showing genuine concern about Michelle’s well-being.
However, we, the audience, know for a fact that Michelle is telling the truth. Because director Sarah Young’s horror short Not Him begins with a scene as terrifying as Michelle waking up in the middle of the night and finding her husband on top of her. His eyes are pitch black, they couldn’t possibly be human eyes. Quite naturally, it can’t be the John she knows – the sweet,...

Rising star Minha Kim unveils her first lead performance since breaking out in AppleTV+’s prestige drama series Pachinko, playing a young woman accused of murdering a best-selling author in Chun Sun-young’s feature debut A Girl with Closed Eyes. Premiering at the Busan International Film Festival, the yarn unspools as a polished crime thriller bolstered by a raft of strong performances, not least from Kim and Choi Hee-seo, but ultimately let down by some wildly implausible plotting.
Set in South Korea’s provincial mountain region of Hongcheon, A Girl with Closed Eyes opens as a young woman calling herself Min-ju (Kim) is caught, smoking gun literally in hand, standing over the bloodied corpse of celebrated writer Jeong Sang-woo (Lee Ki-woo). Taken in for questioning, she claims that Jeong was responsible for an unsolved kidnapping case from 20 years earlier that serves as the inspiration for his hit novel. She also...

Stephen King is once again scoping out all the best genre TV to give fans the rundown on what's new and great. His Entertainment Weekly column may have ended ages ago, but the prolific author's pop culture knowledge knows no limits, and he still regularly takes to Twitter/X to post about what he's been watching or reading. Earlier this summer, he gave the Paramount+ series "Evil" a boost –- and may have kick-started an entire cast and fan campaign –- by requesting a renewal for the newly-ended weird horror series. His other recent recommendations include the Jeremy Saulnier thriller "Rebel Ridge" and the Kyle Gallner and Willa Fitzgerald-led indie "Strange Darling," both of which /Film's own critic Chris Evangelista also really liked.
People tend to joke that King's pop culture taste isn't always on the mark these days, but he's clearly on a roll with his recent recommendations,...

The concept of a haunted or cursed object goes deep into the human race's collective memory. Ever since we were barely bipedal Cro-Magnons, we learned that there were certain things we should not touch or even look at, lest we encounter danger as a result. As our minds and awareness expanded, such deep seated fears extended out toward the supernatural, and we began entertaining the idea that such things as books, paintings, music, and eventually cinema could somehow be cursed. While these fears are still alive and well in the digital space, warning us against clicking on mysterious hyperlinks, there's still a certain je ne sais quoi to allegedly cursed physical media.
When the "V/H/S" franchise began in 2012, the filmmakers behind it capitalized on this latent fear of ours, providing just enough hints and allusions as to why a series of VHS tapes seen in the films might contain eerie,...

Stephen King often takes to Twitter to highlight or recommend movies and shows that are both topical and under-the-radar. Earlier this month, he described the Netflix chart-topping "Rebel Ridge" as "a thinking man's Rambo" and endorsed the brilliant, yet overlooked supernatural drama series "Evil," which is also streaming on Netflix at the moment. King, of course, is intimately acquainted with the horror-thriller genre, and one of his latest genre recommendations is a recent release helmed by Jt Mollner, revolving around a casual hookup gone horribly wrong. Yes, King took to Twitter to praise "Strange Darling" — starring Willa Fitzgerald and Kyle Gallner — while attaching the film's official trailer to underline how intriguing the premise is:
"I got an advance screener of Strange Darling, and it's really terrific. I'll try to attach the trailer here, because it's also a clever masterpiece. Can't say more; watch the film and you'll understand what the trailer is up to.

After the recent American Horror Story: Delicate adapting “a modern Rosemary’s Baby” novel and even Evil’s final season having their horse in the race, I think it’s safe to say that it’s absolutely redundant to keep going back to the Polanski classic. While a terrific film in its own right, Rosemary’s Baby isn’t necessarily a bottomless pool of different perspectives. There’s not much left to explore anymore. And Natalie Erica James’ “prequel” to the original, Apartment 7A is expectedly a reminder of that. That’s not to say that this Julia Garner-starrer isn’t an impressively well-made film; there’s not a single moment in Apartment 7A where every single component of a shot fails to come together perfectly. But like I said, there’s nothing new that Apartment 7A brings to the table. So all it goes down as is a reminder of...

Um, was this an episode of The Ark or a very dark and gritty episode of Impractical Jokers? “It Will Be Over Soon” played like an episode of Big Brother that turned into a “reverse heist.” Is that a thing?
Either way, the writers and hands behind this episode certainly made good use of every second. With this being the last episode before the finale, there’s no time to waste on anything other than the main plot.
You know things are only going to get worse before they get better. I also have a sneaking suspicion we are about to see the return of an “ally” to The Ark.

If you’re going to be a Chicago Fire fan, you’re going to have to get used to saying goodbye.

Well, we will call this growth something that the characters on Tell Me Lies desperately need. Even the adult characters who should know better seem just as childish. It is pettiness to the max, and I love it!
(Josh Stringer/Disney)
I have embraced my toxic relationship with this series. But don’t worry because I can quit this show anytime I want — right?

Witches, and ghosts, and vampires, oh my! AMC is solidifying itself as the go-to network for visually compelling and brilliantly written fantasy shows, and The Talamasca is ready to continue that trend.
Furthering the expansion of the Immortal Universe of Anne Rice’s novels, the network has had more success than anyone could have expected with its supernatural stories.
Unlike the current entries in the Immortal Universe, The Talamasca will be a different kind of show. Where there is a central supernatural focus for Interview with the Vampire and Mayfair Witches, The Talamasca will explore every supernatural avenue.
(Courtesy of AMC)
The name likely won’t mean much to anyone who isn’t a fan of the Anne Rice novels. Even if you watched the Interview with the Vampire film, The Talamasca would be foreign to you.
However, if you enjoyed the Queen of The Damned with the late Aaliyah in the titular role,...

Romantic comedies are an endangered species these days. They’re practically extinct from movie theaters, and most TV rom-coms are either not all that funny or weighed down by metric tons of plot convolutions. But I have good news: Paramount+’s Australian charmer Colin From Accounts, returning for Season 2 this Thursday — I’ve seen all eight Season 2 episodes — is a shining example of romantic comedy at its very best, with lots of genuine laughs, pleasurably low stakes and winning performances from stars/co-creators Patrick Brammall and Harriet Dyer.
Now this is the part of the review where I’d normally tell you about the plot,...

“Lost” premiered on ABC on Sept. 22, 2004, but one of its key players didn’t appear until Season 2: Villain-you-love-to-hate Benjamin Linus, played with spooky intensity by Michael Emerson.
Among the biggest questions on the show, along with what was the black smoke and what was in the hatch, was whether the castaways of Flight 815 could trust a stranger they found in the jungle who claimed to be a stranded balloonist named Henry Gale. Spoiler: No. His real name was Benjamin Linus and they could never trust that slippery weasel.
On the show’s 20th anniversary, TheWrap spoke with Emerson about the “magic” of the show’s night-time shoots, his favorite scene partner and how his role — which was originally just a three-episode guest shot — became a pivotal part of the series.
The actor, whose went on to play an even more diabolical villain on “Evil,” said that the early ’00s hit can never be recreated,...

Indigo De Souza has unveiled a surprise EP featuring three new songs. Stream Wholesome Evil Fantasy in full below.
Over the course of the three tracks, the artist dives headfirst into hyperpop territory, leveraging autotune heavily throughout. “Wholesome” is upbeat and glitchy, while “Evil” sees De Souza open up into vulnerable, angrier territory. She finishes things off with “Fantasy,” the most careening, playfully unhinged track of the bunch.

“These songs come from the spiciest, most goofy, glitter gloss place in my psyche,” she revealed in a statement. “I wasn’t really thinking very hard when I wrote them. Michael Emerson has played quite a few villainous characters over the years, with his latest role as Leland Townsend on Paramount+‘s Evil—gone too soon, sadly, after four seasons. And if you ask him, that’s not even his most evil character! “Leland would vote for himself to be the most evil, but then he’s really, he’s too much of a weenie to be truly the most evil,” he told TV Insider when he stopped by to discuss the final season of Evil and we asked him to pick his most villainous character. Nor would he consider his Lost character for the top spot. “Ben Linus, he’s not hardly a villain at all, is he? That’s a case of good writing and good context,” he explained. “When we meet him, we have our band of lovable castaways, and then we have the dark, dangerous island...

AMC made a bet earlier this year that licensing a number of its shows to Netflix would help them find more viewers. That bet appears to have paid off.
Two AMC shows, Dark Winds and A Discovery of Witches, are among the top 10 streaming titles for the week of Aug. 19-25. They were added to Netflix at the beginning of that week as part of a deal struck in July to place about a dozen AMC shows on the service, complete with branding as the “AMC Collection.” (The shows will be available for 12 months.)
It’s not new territory for AMC, which partially credited Netflix for a huge spike in ratings for Breaking Bad’s final season and has also licensed The Walking Dead and Better Call Saul, among others, to the streamer in the past.
Dark Winds drew 929 million minutes of viewing for the week, good for fourth place overall.

After being delayed several months by the writers strike and the actors strike, season 5 of the hit Netflix series Stranger Things (which is also the last season of the show) finally went into production at the start of the year and is now deep into its twelve month shooting schedule… So deep, in fact, that the cast has gotten together for a read-through the script for the final episode – and while speaking with ComicBook.com, cast member David Harbour revealed there was “heavy weeping” during the reading of that script.

Dr. Kristen Bouchard (Katja Herbers) has made her fair share of deals with devils. Over the course of four seasons of the Paramount+ show "Evil," the semi-skeptical forensic psychologist has killed a man, burned her hand on a cross, and had sex with a Satanic church founder. In the show's final season, she also helped raise the potential antichrist: a baby born via surrogate from her stolen eggs and world-class creep Leland Townsend's (Michael Emerson) DNA. It's no surprise, then, that "Evil" ends on a delightfully complicit note, with Kristen pulling an "I pretend I do not see it" meme when baby Timothy starts exhibiting some clear-cut signs of demonic possession.
In the series finale's final scene, Kristen and her daughters seem to have their happy ending. They've just moved to Rome and are loving it. Kristen is continuing her work surveying possible demonic activity alongside David (Mike Colter), the...

"Evil" co-creators Michelle and Robert King have opened up about what a potential season 5 for the series would've looked like, and as expected, it would've gotten weird ... like, "The Good Fight" crossover-level weird. The showrunners sat down with TV Insider after the show's finale to explain what a fifth season might have looked like had the Paramount+ show not been canceled.
"You saw a little of it in the first two episodes," Robert King told the outlet. "We were going to do more with court and the court system and how demonic it can be. There were going to be more demons kind of infecting the courthouse and Kristen was going to have to be much more involved." As you may recall, season 4 does include a judicial system subplot, with demon-loving creep Leland Townsend (Michael Emerson) attempting to skirt justice after the death of Kristen's mom. Netflix released the first half of Emily in Paris‘ fourth season Aug. 15, and as a result got just over half of the tune-in for the show’s last full-season premiere.
The dramedy starring Lily Collins gathered 792 million minutes of viewing in the United States for its premiere week, according to Nielsen’s streaming ratings. That was good for third place among original series and ninth overall, but was also down 43 percent from the 1.39 billion minutes for the first week of season three’s release — which featured all 10 episodes of that installment, as opposed to five this time out.
The previous week’s top two shows, Prison Break and The Umbrella Academy, held their spots for the week of Aug. 12-18 — and their numbers were consistent as well.
