Simple story with appealing characters

This is a movie without a lot of big highs or lows. It's pretty easy to figure out what comes next. That's when the actors take over and win your heart.

Kelly Rutherford and Cameron Mathison connect after a rough start during contrived confrontations for the obligatory early antagonism between the leads. (No driver lets her eyes wander when there are people all over both on and beside the road. And Noah walked out onto the road without any concern for cars. None. And there were other contrivances.) But after the early tension you could feel the attraction grow. You could also feel the chemistry between mother and daughter, Rutherford and Makenzie Vega. No villains in this story.

I wish IMDb gave credits to the waitress/singer in the band at the festival.

The Lead Actress Saves the Day

As often happens in Hallmark movies, if they cast the right lead(s) all else can be forgiven. The writing is fairly lame and the plot non-existent. What makes the move watchable is the lead actress who is really good at the chemistry/falling-in-love stuff. The lead actor (who is a Hallmark regular) does a decent job too. So if you want a good boy-meets-girl-in-middle-age movie you will probably enjoy this one.

I enjoyed the performance of both leads. The actress playing the daughter was great as well. While it wasn't perfect (this is still Hallmark) , I thought it was delightful. Maybe I underestimated it. It actually happens with every movie Cameron Mathison is in. I have to start giving this guy more credit.

The final kiss between the leads was better than most. Also, the "pre-ending drama" (as I like to call it) made so much sense. It actually happens in real life, instead of pointless reasons they sometimes deliver. Definitely worth the watch.

A nice change

Nice to see characters falling in love that are older than 30s age group. I've seen over 100 Hallmark movies which may not seem like a lot to people but I just started this last November 2018. It's pretty much the basic Hallmark movie but I gave them a higher rating for daring to be different. The actors had a good connection and I like as always that great good feeling that Hallmark movies give.

Older characters need love too.

Hallmark very rarely features over 40 characters, so this movie is refreshing. Kelly Rutherford really shines as a widowed mother of a college freshman just crawling out of her shell. Mackenzie Vega is great as her daughter, and Gold Medal Olympian Gabby Douglas does a fine job.

As with most Cameron Mathison movies, I enjoy the heck out of them. The past few movies of his have fallen off the mark for me a little bit compared to his older movies. This one is a keeper! Some other reviewers said there was no chemistry but I felt there was great chemistry between the actors. Kelly Rutherford's character was quiet and seemed a bit shy but I think it added to the realism of a new relationship being formed. The side story about Amy (Kelly Rutherford) taking her her daughter to freshman year of college hit home with me. It felt like I was reliving dropping our daughter off at college that first time all over again. I'll love watching this one again.

One of the better Hallmark movies

Beautiful cinematography. Like that it was not too young a couple. Was curious to know if it's fall in the States; why it would be Spring Break in Australia? Appreciate the simple, clean movies of Hallmark.

Contrived ?

Sure a bit, but it's fantasy and easy watching Hallmark so it's part and parcel. I was amused how Farmer Prof 'contrived' to be planting broccoli when the Winnipeg corn was already four feet tall and I have never seen a 'farmer' with a pair of brand new gloves or even with any gloves when driving a tractor but...it's fantasy after all ! Loved this feel good movie. We all contrive to have this kind of life and romance.

It is worth watching

I love it! The movie is great, good message, amazing chemistry between leads, I loved the back and forth between them, and that kiss was a damn good kiss. The kiss scene was my favourite, it gave me the feels. I hope they will cast again these two in a movie.

A different sort of Hallmark film, with it being less of an 'opposites attract' story, but more about moving onto the next stage of life.

I thought it was well-played and had some nice moments, but it wasn't one of my favourite Hallmark films.

Cameron Mathison plays Professor Ferrel, Noah, in this romantic comedy where he meets and must work together with Amy, a widow who has dropped her daughter off at college in Oregon and might be having a little trouble letting go.

Amy and Noah have to work together on the University's Harvest Festival which is a necessary fundraiser for the school and next year's festival is dependent on this year's success. First Amy has to win Noah over to the 'festival' part of the harvest festival...but Noah in his way also has to convince Amy of the importance of the harvest portion.

These two do an excellent job of showing listening skills and compromise.

I loved the educational component of the corn maze, that was genius!

Will this tumbleweed settle down? Will Amy sell her beloved house?

You will have to watch these two gorgeous actors who have great chemistry in this fall-centric romantic comedy.

There is a beautiful song highlighted at the end "Loving Young" by Chloe Caroline. I really loved the lyrics at the beginning of the song and can't wait to hear more!!!!

And I was not kidding about the farm looking good on Cameron Mathison. His role as an agricultural professor had him outdoors being active on the farm and really showcased his good looks in the best way possible. I am a big fan of Cameron Mathison's and have seen him in many roles...including his soap roles, but I think this look suited him so well. Never seen him look as good as he did in this film, just saying.

A fun romance for 'mature' viewers

As a widow of a certain age, I loved this story ! Real - with real life considerations. And anything Cameron is in is great - he is so down to earth and genuine. Kelly is a wonderful actor and I love seeing her in this.

I thought this movie was slightly better than average for hallmark, with mostly standard stuff.

Another comment was confused by spring break in Australia. Since seasons are based on the tilt of the earth, when it's tilted toward the sun we have summer, but at that time the Southern Hemisphere is tilted away, making it winter. As such, fall in the north is spring down under.

Hallmark romance

Amy Andolini (Kelly Rutherford) drives her daughter Cara (Makenzie Vega) away to college facing an empty nest. She encounters hunky groundskeeper Noah Ferris (Cameron Mathison). His friend tries to set him up on a blind date. Her friend tries to get her to set up the college harvest festival with an uncooperative professor. It's a six weeks job. It turns out that Ferris is the uncooperative professor of agricultural studies. She wants to give her daughter independence and someone wants to buy her house in L.A. He's a nomad with no personal attachments. It's a question of getting these two together.

The interesting name comes from American gymnast Gabby Douglas as the college roommate. She has a few minor scenes and seems like a solid actresses. She can easily get in a CW superhero show with all her acrobatic skills. As for this Hallmark romance, the first meet-cute is fine but it could be cuter. The second meet-cute is the missed opportunity. The audience should be surprised with his reveal along with her. Instead, it's not a surprise and again, it could be cuter. There is no real tension as there is no danger to the relationship. They face no real hurdles. In the worst possible outcome, they talk to each other frankly and move to Australia. Is Australia that bad? Hard to say but the story is never threatened with worst.

My favorite Fall Harvest Movie

Cameron Mathison and Kelly Rutherford are great! This is my favorite Fall Harvest movie (in my previous review I mentioned that Falling For You is my third favorite; another great movie by the way). One of the reasons why this movie is so good is because of the music. Out of every Hallmark movie, I would say this is either first or second in terms of music.

Again, reiterating from my review of Falling For You, purity is of the utmost importance to me, and this movie passes the test. Great movie (the best of the Fall Harvest).

Not bad as Hallmark movies go except for the fact that he was cutting corn with a riding lawn mower!!! Hahahahahaha! Tough to get past the fact that Hallmark thinks all their viewers are idiots. Either that or they just don't give a damn; I suspect it's the latter. Sad

I am a Hallmark movie junkie, and this one was by far one of my fav's. Kelly is so authentic, and raised Cameron Mathison's acting game (and he's great already). I loved that it was much more relatable to my 'slightly' more mature demographic.

I have been watching Hallmark movies constantly all summer. I hadn't really watched many before. I can't believe what I was missing. This movie was by far one of my favorites. I love Cameron Mathison and Kelly Rutherford and their chemistry was amazing. It was such a beautiful storyline and their love story was very appealing and so believable. I also loved all of the supporting characters, especially Makenzie Vega who I loved on The Good Wife.

I love this film for its actors. The chemistry between Kelly Rutheford and Cameron Mathison is a great virtue for a Hallmark production. Makenzie Vega propose a fair portrait of Cara. And the soul of autumn, including The Harvest Festival helps more. A film of autumn in many senses. The story, it is not predictable only but, unfortunatelly , too familiar , with the risk to become boring. But Cameron Mathison, remembering Glenn Ford, Kelly Rutherford, giving the precise , honest traits to her. Amy are just admirable. So, a beautiful film.

Good story but....

While I like Cameron Mathison, Hallmark really should've found another actress to play opposite him. I've never noticed a lack of chemistry between him and other co-stars but my, this Rutherford woman made me stop watching at the half-way mark. The story is a relatively good though familiar one; she just wasn't believable at all.

Cameron Mathison is one of my favorite actors and I have probably seen all of his movies. This movie was okay but there was zero chemistry between Cameron and Kelly Rutherford. She was so stoic and not a good actress IMO.

Love in the Fall

Hallmark's 2018 Fall Harvest block was a fairly brief one, with only six films. Most of them were not bad at all, though they were also patchy. The premise is a familiar one, not uncommon for Hallmark Fall Harvest films, but it has worked more than once before. My main draw was Cameron Mathison, have seen him in a lot of other Hallmark outings and have nearly always found him well worth watching regardless of the quality of the film overall. He is popular with Hallmark for good reason.

Of the 2018 Fall Harvest films, 'Love of Course' is a contender for the best. For some reason, this reviewer was thinking it would be centered around food, before remembering that that is usually a Countdown to Valentine's Day and/or Summer Nights premise. Despite the premise being familiar, 'Love of Course' does a very worthy job with it. It starts off rocky, but it to me really did get a lot better so of course sticking with it is recommended (the temptation to bail is understandable).

'Love of Course' is at its weakest at the beginning, with the early portions being on the very awkward and contrived side in primarily the dialogue. Mathison and Kelly Rutherford don't look comfortable together to begin with.

The ending is a bit too neat and could have been rounded off a little more completely.

Conversely, there are so many good things that really make 'Love of Course' worth sticking with. Rutherford is endlessly engaging and has a lot of perky charm about her. Mathsion is very comfortable and easy going in his likeable role. Their chemistry is very genuine and mostly didn't feel false or bland. It was great that it was not underused and didn't play fiddle to what was going on in the story. MacKenzie Vega brings a lot of charm and heart to her role and is not too cutesy or bratty, with believable chemistry with Rutherford and Mathison.

Furthermore, the script is a mix of amusingly light hearted and heart warming sentiment, without being juvenile or too sentimental. The story is not an original one, but it has a lively energy, doesn't take itself too seriously while not treating it as joke and is cute. The characters are ones worth caring for and the film looks very nice (especially the gorgeous scenery) and isn't over-scored.

In summary, very well done. 8/10.

Two strong leads propel this movie foward.

It's amazing what a difference good actors make. It's easy to get used to the par-for-the-course subpar acting that comes with Hallmark movies, but a movie like this is a pleasant reminder that experienced talent is out there in the Hallmark universe! The two leads played well off of each other, had great chemistry, and worked up organically to their romance. It didn't feel rushed or forced. This movie isn't bursting with autumn ambience (although some nice apple picking and a corn maze is included) as some other Hallmark films released during the fall season, but that's hardly noticeable considering the sweet storyline holds the audience's attention just fine on its own.
