- Eunhee's alcoholic uncle passes away. The cause for death is interpretable as suicide in the book. Though the film does not reveal the cause for his death, the scene where he invites himself into Eunhee's family's home is somewhat ominous (such as muttering "Brother is leaving," out of context).
- Based on the real event of the collapse of Seongsoo Bridge. Eunhee's family is in hysterics because Suhee's bus is shown on the news. Thankfully, Suhee had missed the bus because she was late and narrowly escapes death. On the other hand, Teacher Yeongji is revealed to have died from this incident.
