Spoiler Warning: Do not read ahead if you have not watched the second part of “The Voice’s” Season 17 finale on NBC.
“The Voice” Season 17 crowned its winner on Tuesday night’s part two of the season finale.
Jake Hoot took home the series’ top prize, beating out fellow top four contestants Katie Kadan, Ricky Duran, and Rose Short. Short placed fourth, Kadan placed third, and Duran placed second.
Before the winners were announced, contestants Alex, Will, Max and Shane returned to sing “Gimme Some Lovin!” for the finale episode. In classic “The Voice” fashion, some popular artists guested on the show to perform a hit or two as well.
Lady Antebellum performed “What If I Never Get Over You.” Their rousing performance was followed by a sketch featuring judge Kelly Clarkson as the “‘Voice’ Mom,” with the “Since U Been Gone” legend passing out lozenges and driving her team to rehearsal in a mini-van.

The Nintendo DS provided ample opportunity for Pokémon Diamond and Pearl to shine...
Pokémon Diamond and Pearl came as a very pleasant surprise when it released in Japan in 2006 and everywhere else in 2007 as the first titles in the RPG franchise to release on the Nintendo DS. More than a decade later, this pairing of console and concept works just wonderfully.
After years of squinting at non-backlit Game Boy and Game Boy Advance screens, playing Pokémon on the dual LCD screens of the DS feels like heaven. The characters and their critters are more visible and vibrant than ever, and the touch screen functionality of the bottom screen is an absolute godsend when it comes to rummaging in your bag for items or picking your next move in battle. Using WiFi rather than a Link Cable to connect with your friends also feels like a huge leap in playability.

While Pokémon fans will have to wait a few more months before the release of Sword and Shield, there’s still plenty of fun to be had with developer Niantic’s Ar mobile game. Earlier this week, a brand new Pokémon Go event let players catch their very own adorable Detective Pikachu, just in time for the film’s release later this month. Aside from this detective-solving version of the franchise’s mascot though, Niantic also released three more legendary creatures into the wild.
Those who played Pokémon Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum will no doubt remember the legendary trio from Sinnoh, which consisted of Azelf, Mespirit, and Uxie. Just last week, these three lake guardians started appearing around the globe and were not relegated to endgame raids, unlike most other legendaries. If you were looking to expand your collection of Pokémon even further though, you might just be in luck.

Oscar winner John Kahrs (“Paperman”) has made the most ambitious Vr short yet from Google Spotlight with “Age of Sail,” which has been converted for Best Animated Short consideration. The great breakthrough was believably capturing the open ocean for this adventure in the North Atlantic about an old sailor (Ian McShane) who rescues a Victorian girl (Cathy Ang). (Watch the short below.)
“It’s very much like the Grand Canyon,” said Kahrs. “You go there
and your spatial perception is astounding. And then you can show a picture and it’s not the same. The open ocean can have that high stakes drama as vast as David Lean’s ‘Lawrence of Arabia.’ But all the portrayals I’ve seen of the open ocean are nothing like it. So I thought it would be cool for Vr being in the waves.”

It is the longest project by Google’s immersive storytelling-meets-tech division and is also the first short to feature dialogue.
“Age of Sail” had its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival and had an Academy-qualifying run in Los Angeles earlier this year.
Now the film will be available in multiple formats. The theatrical version of “Age of Sail” is available on the Google Spotlight Stories YouTube Channel and the 360-degree mobile version is available via Google Play and iTunes. Vr versions are available on Steam and Viveport.

DC wants more Pearl, and the Scarlet TV series is getting a little closer to reality!
Saturday at the Brian Michael Bendis Spotlight Panel at New York Comic Con, co-creators of Jessica Jones writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist Michael Gaydos announced that their new Jinxworld series Pearl will become a regular series.
Pearl is the story of a Japanese tattoo artist trying to survive the world of the Yakuza underworld. “When the numbers on the first issues came in,” Bendis told the panel, “DC sent us to series.”
As for Gaydos, the artist said he is having the time of his life with Pearl. “I’m having so much fun experimenting,” the artist said. “I can only see it getting better.” When the series returns after the end of the first six issue arc, Pearl will travel to Japan. Gaydos called the series the “…hardest series I have ever worked on,...
