A very interesting country and so many beautiful places and nice encounters.
I enjoyed very much the visit of Jérôme in Valparaiso: the funicular train, the meeting with Mauricio, the town with the painted houses or the mural frescos, the ambiance in the Liberty bar ( the "terremoto", the talk with the writer).
But also the travel to the Atacama desert was impressive: the international observatory of Mount Paranal with its 8 huge telescopes (the.astronomers looking for the mysteries of the universe), the oasis where the farmer grow potatoes, maize and beans, the farm with the lamas.
Chile has about 4.000 kilometers of coast: Iquique, a growing town because of the paragliding and surfing activities and on the other side ghost towns like Pisagua and Humberstone, florishing towns of the saltpeter mining and export (a former mining employee has created a museum about the town of Humberstone).
Then we have have a nice travel to Melipilla area; the horse bredding ( a passion of Marco Antonio Barbosa), the Huaso tradition (Chilean cowboys) with nice costumes, the family meeting in the rodeo (catching calves) and the citrus fields.
Then Santiago de Chile, a huge metropolis (about 1/3 of the Chilean population is living in this capital), because there are job opportunities. There are nice places such as the San Cristobal Hill (850 meters above sea level) with a very nice panorama: the historical center with the Plaza Baquedano or he Plaza of the Constitution with the Palacio de la Moneda (a reference to the 1973 coup against Salvador Allende and his government), but also we discover the life of the neighborhood of Bella Vista: Volker Gutierrez, a writer and journalist spoke about the period of the dictatorship and the cultural resistence in this moments and we know the efforts of Maria Elena Ducci to improve the quality of life of this neighborhood.
A very interesting documentary with with nice landscapes: the Andes, the Atacama desert, the Melipilla area, Valparaiso with its painted houses and the San Cristobal hill in Santiago.
I enjoyed very much the kindness of the Chilean men and women.
