You’d be forgiven for being surprised that Jason Derulo hadn’t released an album since 2015’s Everything Is 4. In the nine years since that full-length’s release, Derulo has kept himself in the public eye, whether through his Tiktoks or his steady stream of singles; his fizzy collaboration with the New Zealand producer Jawsh 685 “Savage Love (Laxed – Siren Beat” even reached No. 1 on the Hot 100 in 2020, thanks in part to a clutch assist from BTS.
That gap helps explain in part the length of Nu King, Derulo’s fifth album.

It’s an interesting month ahead on Hulu, as the streamer rolls out some of the series it’s been keeping in its back pocket for the holiday season.
On December 15, the first season of Such Brave Girls will arrive. The sitcom follows a dysfunctional family – and we mean dysfunctional! – that includes real-life sisters Kat Sadler and Lizzie Davidson. British comedian Sadler has previously written for The News Quiz, Hypothetical, and Mel Giedroyc: Unforgivable, but this is her first big TV project. “Everything we joke about in the show is from a place of lived experience,” she told Funny Women. “I wish I could say this is a heart-warming show about overcoming trauma, but that would be a lie. It’s about three toxic, damaged egomaniacs manipulating the world and each other for their own personal gain, vengeance and glory…just like in Little Women.” Sounds good!

Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour is back to eat the weekend box office with a fork and knife as the concert film grooves to $5.9M as an estimated Thursday total. The Sam Wrench-directed movie gives Swifties a front-row seat to one of the most in-demand tours in decades, pulling $98.7M at 3,855 theaters overall. These numbers are all the more impressive, considering the Eras Tour exits theaters Monday through Wednesday, building hype for a weekend-centric theatrical event.
Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon also screened in cinemas on Thursday, blooming with $2.6M in previews. Showings for Scorsese’s latest epic – which we loved – began at 2 p.m. due to the film’s 3 hours and 26 minutes runtime. No one knows if Flower Moon can defeat The Eras Tour at the box office this weekend. However, analysts predict another impressive weekend for the blonde bombshell from West Reading, Pennsylvania.

Taylor Swift, the pop icon who’s untouchable and burns brighter than the sun, has no plans to let go of her stranglehold on the box office when Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon takes the stage. Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour banked $92.3M in its first weekend, with theaters pausing showtimes between Monday and Thursday. While the concert film could take a 60%-70% dip in its second weekend with $27M-$37M, it could be enough to walk all over Scorsese’s latest epic at the box office.
Analysts watching Killers of the Flower Moon predict a $20M-$25M opening for Scorsese’s gripping drama. Considering the film’s 3-hour, 26-minute runtime, that’s an impressive take for a theater experience that should come with complimentary adult diapers. While some of the year’s most significant films have been victims of the SAG-AFTRA strike and an inability to promote new projects,...

The adaptation of David Grann’s book of the same name is already gaining praise for the performances of the lead actors. Scorsese’s period film about the Osage Native American tribe is led by Lily Gladstone. Jesse Plemons and Robert De Niro also star.
“Killers of the Flower Moon” is based on David Grann’s novel and is set in 1920s Oklahoma depicting the serial murder of members of the oil-wealthy Osage Nation, a string of brutal crimes that came to be known as the Reign of Terror.
Cardinal has starred in “Dances with Wolves” and “Godless” and is one of the most recognized Indigenous actresses of her generation. She will play the role of Lizzie Q, the mother of Gladstone’s character. Myers, Collins and Dion will play Gladstone’s sisters.

Scorsese is producing and directing the project from a script by Eric Roth. Imperative Entertainment’s Dan Friedkin and Bradley Thomas are also producers, with DiCaprio’s Appian Way Productions.
Cardinal was born in Ft. McMurray, Alberta.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe will continue to expand at Disney+.
The Walt Disney Company announced Monday that it has entered into a five-year overall exclusive television deal with writer-director-producer Ryan Coogler's Proximity Media, with principals Zinzi Coogler, Sev Ohanian, Ludwig Göransson, Archie Davis, and Peter Nicks.
Coogler, who co-wrote and directed Marvel Studios' Black Panther and is currently hard at work on the sequel, will develop new television series, which includes one based in the Kingdom of Wakanda for Disney+.
Yes, a TV series set in the world of Black Panther is officially in development, which is great news. The movie introduced us to Wakanda, and it left us with many questions about potential projects that could take place in the universe.
The deal also enables Proximity to develop television for other divisions of the Company.

Ryan Coogler’s Proximity Media has officially entered the television game and they’re making theirs Marvel! Or at the very least Disney. The news was confirmed Monday afternoon by Deadline, which reported Coogler’s production company signed a five-year exclusivity deal with Disney. This means Coogler will be producing and developing television projects exclusively for the Disney+ streaming service, beginning with at least one drama series officially set in the Kingdom of Wakanda.
To say this news will likely make Marvel fans happy is an understatement. Because in addition to a Wakanda series, Coogler’s official statement also left the door open for working on other Marvel shows at Disney+.
“We are especially excited that we will also take our first leap [into TV] with Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso and their partners at Marvel Studios,” Coogler said in a statement. “We’ll be working closely with them on select...

A series set in Wakanda is in development at Disney Plus.
The series is part of a new multi-year overall television deal Ryan Coogler and his Proximity Media have signed with The Walt Disney Company and will include other television projects in the future. Coogler previously directed and co-wrote the hit Marvel film “Black Panther,” which takes place in the fictional African nation of Wakanda. Coogler is currently at work on the film’s sequel.
The deal will enable Proximity to develop shows for other divisions of the Walt Disney Company as well. Along with Coogler, Proximity’s principals are Zinzi Coogler, Sev Ohanian, Ludwig Göransson, Archie Davis and Peter Nicks.

A tale of alien abduction, Proxmity serves as an in-and-out impressive calling card for debuting feature writer and director Eric Demeusy. His training in animation and visual effects helped Demeusy create the Emmy-winning title sequences for Stranger Things and Game of Thrones. So it’s a given that this L.A.-based filmmaker knows how to get things started. Proximity kicks off with a flashback set in 1979, which isn’t a coincidence — that was the decade of Close Encounters of the Third Kind, the Steven Spielberg sci-fi classic that informs...

There’s a lot left unsaid within visual effects artist Eric Demeusy’s directorial debut Proximity. While initially thinking it was a means to create mystery around its main character Isaac (Ryan Masson), I eventually saw it was a product of needing narrative context for what’s actually important instead. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing if you hide those loose threads in the background as the main thrust of your action is born from them, but doing so proves difficult when they’re specifically introduced as that thrust. Example: an early therapy session alluding to lost family, survivor’s guilt, and depression. Here’s a scene that holds weight by setting up a backstory for Isaac beyond his job at Nasa. It supplies humanity and empathy by creating a base of emotional purpose.

Beginning in silence, the trailer for Proximity gradually grows in complexity to become a full-blown question mark. I watched the trailer first, before knowing what the film is about, and so I recommend you do that as well (trailer posted below). Now, for those who have watched the trailer, I'm sure you're wondering, as was I, what is the official synopsis? "A young Nasa Jpl scientist is abducted by extraterrestrials but when no one believes his story he becomes obsessed with finding proof which leads him on a journey of discovery. A-ha! The synopsis continues: "An enthralling sci-fi thriller, Proximity is an engaging exploration of the unknown, and the debut feature film from filmmaker and award-winning VFX artist Eric Demeusy." Demeusy's visual effects credits include...

"We have to be there when they come!" Whoa, what the?! Shout Studios has released the official trailer for an indie sci-fi thriller titled Proximity, marking the feature directorial debut of VFX artist / filmmaker Eric Demeusy. This looks awesome! A surprise indie sci-fi film we've never heard of before. An "enthralling sci-fi thriller, Proximity is an engaging exploration of the unknown." A young Nasa scientist is abducted by extraterrestrials and returns, but no one believes him. Of course. He becomes obsessed with finding proof "which leads him on a journey of discovery." Though from the looks of it, there's much more than just that going on in here. Starring Ryan Masson, Highdee Kuan, Christian Prentice, Shaw Jones, and Don Scribner. I'm completely sold by this trailer. Doesn't look too low budget or cheesy. From what I can tell, a smart filmmaker is using his talent and limited resources to tell...
