Shunichi Ishimoto, the animation director of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders, has finally quit the David Production animation studio. He was affiliated with them for a long time and has worked on every JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure series since the beginning. He was one of their chief animators and has now decided to become a freelancer.

The production studio started in 2007, and since then they have developed all of the seasons of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure. David Production is also prominently known for anime series like Fire Force, Undead Unluck, Monster Hunter Stories: Ride on, Ensemble Stars, Cells at Work!!, and Urusei Yatsura. They have also worked on a bunch of movies, OVAs, and ONAs.
Ishimoto shared this news on his official X account, and fans thanked him for his contribution to JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure and wished him all the best in his future endeavors.

After the April Fools' Day joke on Twitter at midnight, Toei Animation officially announced for real today at noon that a stage play adaptation of Yoshio Sawai's surreal comedy manga series Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo is set to perform at the Theater 1010 in Tokyo in October 2024. The play's title is "Cho Hajike Stage Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo." The original manga series Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo was serialized in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump from February 2001 to November 2005, then was followed by its sequel Shinsetsu Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo from December 2005 to July 2007. Toei Animation's TV anime adaptation aired for 76 episodes from November 2003 to May 2005. Toei Animation's official English website describes the series: In the year 300X, an emperor rules the world. “The House of the Lost on the Cape,” a Japanese animated movie which was an official selection at the recent Annecy festival will have a theatrical release in North America from Sept. 7. The film is to be distributed by Los Angeles-based Eleven Arts in association with Anime Expo and Iconic Events Releasing. It tells the story of two children who lose their home to a natural disaster and are taken in by a strange old woman. The roll-out begins in Los Angeles and New York and will expand to other cities.
The film is the directorial debut of Kawatsura Shinya and was written by Yoshida Reiko as an adaptation of the award-winning novel of the same title by Kashiwaba Sachiko. Animation work was headed by David Production. Earlier this year “Cape” also won the ‘best animation film’ prize at the 76th Annual Mainichi Film Awards.

The 17th Zurich Film Festival (Sept. 23-Oct. 3) will honor Paul Schrader for his life’s work, which includes the screenplays for Martin Scorsese‘s “Taxi Driver,” “Raging Bull” and “The Last Temptation of Christ,” and the films he directed, including “American Gigolo,” “Mishima: A Life in Four Chapters,” “The Comfort of Strangers” and “First Reformed.”
Schrader will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award in person at Zurich Convention Center on Oct. 1 before presenting his new film “The Card Counter,” which bowed at the Venice Film Festival. He will also deliver a masterclass.
“I am pleased to be honored by a very hip film festival in the beautiful city of Zurich,” said Schrader. “I have many fond memories and friends there, and am appreciative that this honor will allow me to visit those”.
“It is a dream for me as a cinephile to pay homage to Paul Schrader at the Zff.

A new season of television is upon us, even if it may not exactly feel like it due to Covid-19 slowing many productions. Despite these setbacks, the animation world has been able to forge ahead more successfully than the rest of television. And anime in particular is set to premiere many new series this year that were previously delayed.
