I can't believe they got an ok for this script

Despite the bad reviews I still gave it a shot because I love Stargate and Connor Trinneer ( ST Enterprise ) It sure is low budget but that isn't really the issue here. The trouble is that the script is so bad it gets painful to watch. You can see they wanted to make this movie in line with the rest of the franchise but the "humor" is so bad it resembles amateur theater and the story is so full with stuff done far better in other movies. I really can't believe they got permission to put the Stargate name on this. Nothing new, nothing added to the story and this certainly will not be the start of a reboot. I think many fans will be disgusted by this and I highly doubt this flick will introduce a new generation to the franchise.

Disappointing in all aspects

Cringy (over-)acting and a camera technique on potentially less than B-movie level, combined with a dull, simplistic story, poorly written dialogue and unmemorable audio/music. Approach this like Alien rather than Stargate: Kill it before it lays eggs.

I want to like it

So of course I'm a huge fan of the series because SG1 was freaking awesome. I saw the first 30 min intro tonight. Feels like armature and weird directing style. Just feels unnatural and fake (lol all TV is fake) but you know what I mean.

Hopefully it will get better but so far I'm bummed because Stargate is an awesome franchise and I hate to see it get buried for a few more years.

You'll know what I mean when you watch it... like it's as if a Youtuber made a fan film or something. Sorry to be harsh and it's not like I could do any better.

You know what I'm going to re watch all 10 Seasons of SG1 and wait for the next round.

Please don't judge the Stargage Franchise based on this

I was so excited to hear about Origins, and had no idea this was going to be such a low budget amateurish affair. It looks like something a film student would do on a shoestring budget as his first production.

Disappointed

For the past 10 years or so I have not felt the urge to make an account here, what alone to make a comment about it.

I just finished watching the first 3 episodes and this is an disappointment to the Stargate franchice, the CGI is obviously all done by green screen but this obviously looks even worse then the first SG1 episode that came out.

Acting is terrible, the story is terrible and just everything about this is terrible..

I will of course watch the rest of the episodes no matter how bad they are just because it's Stargate but this is just bad, even what we learned from SG1 from what happened before means nothing here and it seems the storyline here will just go random from here on.

Sorry for being this salty but this is just bad..

Beyond disappointed

Since I heard about the project some time ago I have been waiting patiently for it's release. I am a massive fan of all things Stargate, having watched the original movie, SG 1, Atlantis, Universe and loved the lot of them. It's fair to day I was pretty disappointed when Universe was cancelled.

So the premise for this was already pretty well known, let's make a prequel and show what happened when they first found the Stargate.

The whole thing seems like a college project. The acting is amateur, the story is dull and corny. The effects aren't even that good.

To me this looks like one thing and that's a way for them to cash in on a popular franchise.

If your a fan you will watch this anyway and no doubt be disappointed but if your not and just planned watching it anyway then save your time. A real let down, the 2 stars is me being generous and I give it mainly for the music.

Blatant disregard for Stargate Continuity

In the 1994 Movie and In the Stargate SG-1 Tv Series Catherine Langford Never travelled through the Stargate until the Sg-1 Episode "The Torment of Tantalus.

She didn't even know what the Stargate was (beyond Speculation) until Daniel Jackson figured out how to activate the Stargate in the 1994 Movie.

This new series is a Blatant Disregard for the continuity of the Stargate Franchise.

Who ever came up with the idea for this series should be put in front of a firing squad.

Bring back stargate universe!

^title

For the love of god, they ended that show with a massive cliffhanger. Why did they even make this one when you already had a great show (universe) ready for revival??!! what the actual...?!

Not as bad as some think

It is true that this is not as good as the original film or SG1. Atlantis was top quality and in my opinion so was Universe.

But I love Stargate and so enjoyed this. I hope that more are made, and with that comes higher quality. If you don't sit down to watch this expecting Jack O'Neill and Sam Carter then you might enjoy it too.

Awfull!

As a big fan of SG series, I expected a lot and what I found was a student work and 6 min. episodes!!! And all full of nonsense. Why somebody wanted to do a dirty joke for SG? Do not spend your 1 minute to watch this crap!

Be open minded - there's a lot of potential

So right, people were bound to be disappointed. Then again people like to complain so I guess it's always a matter of perspective. Personally I've found the first three episodes really enjoyable. I can understand why some people complained about the acting, budget as well as camera movement though.

I have to be honest, I truly did enjoy this. For older fans of the original SG1 and people who likes series from the 90s this will be a blast from the past as long as you go in not comparing the cast to the original SG1 cast. What I enjoyed the most is that the director managed to capture the spirit of the original along with all the silliness and lightheartedness that came with it.

New fans and especially younger viewers will probably find this silly too low budged and will most likely complain about the acting. This is not the series for people who grew up watching cgi series focused on "realistic" modern day depictions of science fiction.

I think that there's a lot of potential here and if you are a fan a higher rating would be beneficial as it would show producers that there is still interest in this type of series and franchise.

If you are fans of any Stargate Series I implore you to leave a positive rating even if you still want to bash the series in your review. I am sure we can all agree that there are really crappy series out there and this is far from being one of the worst. Not only that but it manages to capture the atmosphere of the originals which to me is already a difficult thing to do.

Enjoy!

Bit short, but ok.

Its stargate, the episodes are a bit short. They obviously dont have the budget to make a series like SG-1, atlantis or universe. But its something. I welcome a revival of stargate, hope this is a start.

What the...

This is just awful...

Do they have no respect for this franchise? Awful acting, awful script, awful costumes, awful shots and my broken heart.

If you are a fan of the Franchise do yourself an favor and dont watch this. Almost every actor is overacting like its his debut in elementary school. You dont care at all about the characters because the character building was finished in like 2 minutes (from the start). The charme SG-1, Atlantis and even Universe had is completely gone.

I agree with badmark this is Dreck.

Goa'uld propaganda made to prove that humans are idiots and SG-1 never existed

After seeing lots of failed and short-lived science fiction TV shows, and even fan-made shows, I can tell that this one is the worst. It may be funny, but only when the authors least intent to make you laugh. And it's definitely not Stargate. The whole thing is so completely unprofessional that I won't be surprised if people who were involved will want to erase it from their resumes.

Among all else, the special effects make you wanna tear your eyes out and feed them to a three-headed shark. The CGI looks shameful even by early '90s standards. Watch only if you want to see how Sharktopus vs. Pteracuda was a descent movie.

Highly dissapointing

I was really excited to see a new stargate series, however, unless you just HAVE to see everything stargate, I would skip this one.

Bad acting, poor special effects, several scenes are just unbelievable, the men are all evil or incompetent cowards (I enjoy strong women, but there is no reason to make all of the men so unlikable to have that), several small pointless inconsistencies with the original series. Feels like a very amateur attempt. They could have done SO much better.

Does MGM hate Stargate?

I have rarely seen such a bad script, very bad dialogues, total lack of acting skills.

There are many high school plays that have much better characters, a real plot with some logic and just...a sense of fun.

Stargate is one of the most popular Science Fiction worlds there is, how can they let loyal fans down like this?

If you love Stargate...stay away from Origins, go and rewatch anything from the older series or movies.

The only purpose this can serve is as a horrible example how NOT to continue a popular series.

If you don´t have an interesting story to tell, don't know how to build relatable characters...

...if you can´t do it right...do nothing.

Nobody will invest money into expanding the franchise after this disaster. It is over.

Worst series i have ever seen, complete garbage

Either this is fan-made and everyone volunteered to make this series for free or they hired Asylum studios to produce it. The script has so many obvious mistakes while the plot is completely stupid and full of holes, not to mention that the acting is so awkward, it feels like it's all just a bunch of friends playing sharades. Oh and the CGI is just hillarious. The effects in the very first SG-1 episodes were 99x better than this trash; the wormhole itself looks like Winamp visualisations. Giant shark vs Megacrocosaurus makes this look like a cartoon.

This is the end of Stargate for good. After this failure, no other studio on the planet will ever entertain the idea to make another SG. And worst of it all, the episodes are 9 minutes long. 9. freaking. minutes. I watch youtube miniseries that are longer than that.

They took everything (the Goa'uld, the music, the canon, the initial storyline) and wiped their proverbial buttholes with it. Being a huge SG fan probably seen all the series and movies more than twice. I can't really imagine how any producer in his right mind tought something like "hey, you know what will make a great series? A 9 minute episode low budget Stargate spinoff". Whoever took part in making this should be ashamed of themselves.

If you are a true Stargate fan, you'll want to see this. I know you will, despite the bad reviews. I advise you not to, not if you want to remember Stargate as a good series.

It really isn't that bad, people.

Some of the acting and special effects may be a little cheesy, I'll give you that.

But to those of you going "HURR continuity" need to really think about what they are saying. Honestly, from what I have seen, they haven't really broken any continuity within the Stargate franchise. The very few things that I've seen that could be considered "retconning" can easily be explained in later episodes. It happened all the time in SG-1 and other shows, so why don't you go give SG-1 1-star reviews because of that?

Overall, the premise is good, acting eh, effects a little cheesy (No cheesier than SG-1....), but I'm still enjoying it through the eyes of the stargate fan.

My only complaint is that they use the stargate designs/wormholes from the Stargate movie, and not SG-1. Wasn't a fan of those designs.

its good , but dont take it too seriously !

So I found this unexpectedly I had no idea they'd made this mini series, having watched episodes 1-3 I can say I enjoyed it. I think some of the die hard stargate reviewers on here are taking it far too seriously, 1 star? 3 stars ? lol, its just a bit of fun, i dont consider these serious stargate episodes , more of a fun prelude to hopefully a new series... I enjoyed the characters I'd never seen Ellie Gall before, but shes very likeable, and having Connor Trinneer as her father was a great idea! I look forward to more of the same....

Limited Budget Does Show

If you are a Stargate fan, you can skip this one. We already knew parts of this story from previous Stargate episodes. That is, we knew about a Stargate being dug up in 1928 at an Egyptian archeological site. Stargate Origins tells the story of the first accidental use of the Stargate ten years later, and a daughter trying to get her father back to Earth. You can tell the budget is small for this movie due to the limited number of sets the story was told in. I thought the Catherine character was sweet, spunky, and beautiful.
