But there was hardly a Ouija board involved here...
paul_haakonsen6 July 2018
The recent tirade of Ouija movies haven't exactly been spectacular, and that should have been an obvious indication of what to expect here. But after all, it is a horror movie and it could happen to be the movie that breaks the slump of less than mediocre movies, you know?

But it wasn't...

The storyline was nothing extraordinary and actually had surprisingly little to do with a ouija board at all, so the title of movie is sort of misleading. And that hardly worked in favor of the movie.

The acting in the movie was every bit as rigid and unimpressive as the storyline and plot. So don't get your hopes up for something spectacular here. And it didn't really help that the characters were mundane, generic cardboard cutouts that just milled about like lemmings, doing things that often made little sense in a situation like the one they were in.

As for the special effects in "Ouija Seance: The Final Game" were adequate, although you shouldn't set yourself up for something out of this world.

All in all, "Ouija Seance: The Final Game" is not an impressive horror movie, and as an avid horror fan, I have a lifetime of movies with me in my backpack. Some of us suffered through this ordeal of a movie so the rest of you don't have to.

How far is a kilometer?
nogodnomasters22 July 2018
Warning: Spoilers
The DVD cover has a spooky double jointed ghost that we don't get to see in the film. Sara Williams is in Italy to study painting restoration and sell her grandmother's rural home without cell phone reception. She ends up at the house with three friends, creepy caretaker, and a hidden room with a Ouija Board (could have guessed that from the title). They play with the board, family secrets unfold, folks die. Special effects and characters not that great. Barb (Holly Louise Mumford) was the ditzy friend with the stereotypical shallow boyfriend. Rico (Gianfranco Quero) wants to hook up, but is polite about it.

There are worse films with "Ouija" in the title. I don't recommend them either. I miss the old "Witchboard" series.

Guide: F-word, brief sex, brief nudity.

I sort of liked the trailer but the film didn't deliver
derekjager22 July 2018
I thought the acting was okay as was most of the dialogue. Those are key to a horror film. We know people are going to do stupid things but we don't want them to sound stupid. Unfortunately, after the plot was set up and they played with the Ouija board...nothing really happened. I was bored and thought the last 20 minutes might make for an exciting climax, but it, too, was pretty dull. So, I'd have to say skip this. I wasn't expecting much but it didn't deliver on my low expectations.

Awful

The main actress needs to go back to acting school. I'd rather have wasted my time watching an Actual train wreck than this garbage.

What a bunch of obnoxious kids
MissAggravated20 July 2020
I thought this could be good until I saw what a terribly spoilt obnoxious brat the lead character was. Demanding this and that from some neighbour she's never met before. Rude. The rest of them were not much better. They all seem to hate each other. Good luck watching this snoozefest full of horrible people. Maybe that's the real horror of this film...

Wow, this really was as horrible as reviewers reported
m-skee20 January 2021
At least it wasn't filmed as shaky 'found footage' and that's the only good thing about this movie. The MC Sarah was way too stupid to live. Yes Sarah let's make the crazy guy with a weapon mad, great idea. She was just about the most annoying character I've watched, add in the horrible acting and I wanted to summon a dark thing to kill me. And why does the British sounding girl ask how far a kilometer is?!

Slow and confusing
cutiecatwren11 August 2018
Not much happens in this movie. It starts off very slow, and all the "action" happens in the last 10 - 20 minutes. The star of the film doesn't have very good acting skills, but the rest of the cast are okay. They mention things that don't ever actually end up being used later in the movie.

Demon Seance or Ouija Seance?
mrhwlr28 January 2024
Good characters. Good actors. Good plot in grounding viewers in normalcy of university life before stretching imaginations in a grand old haunted house. The haunting is not satisfied though, and is looking to savagely kill visitors in the grand old house before entering the modern world. This movie would support a sequel.

Pick a quiet place to hold your séance. You'll be able to focus better in a chill environment, like your bedroom or a quiet park. If you're inside, turn off all distractions, like the TV, so you'll be able to concentrate on the spirit world. Additionally, silence your phones-you can check in with the living later.

Some people warn that you shouldn't use a Ouija board at your own house. There's no reason to worry, though. We'll make sure you don't get haunted. How to ouija? Cleanse your space to remove negative energy. You can protect yourself from negative spirits by doing a simple cleansing before you start. To do a smoke cleansing, light the end of a sage bundle and waft the smoke around your space. You might even say, "I cleanse this space of all negativity." If you don't have sage, use some salt water to cleanse your space. Mix some table or sea salt into fresh water. Then, pray or meditate over it. Next, spray or sprinkle the water around the room while saying, "With salt and water, I cleanse all negativity." Place your Ouija board on a table. Technically, you can use a Ouija board pretty much anywhere. At the same time, you'll be most comfortable sitting around a table. Just make sure the table is totally flat because you don't want the planchette sliding down an incline. Your planchette is the pointer that slides around the Ouija board. Alternative: Try balancing the board on your legs instead. Traditionally, 2 players would sit opposite each other with their knees touching. Then, you balance the Ouija board on your legs.

Bad and gets worse
jamastrange28 July 2019
Bad actors. Badly written movie. Dumb decisions, the biggest being to decide to watch this garbage. The lead actress is horrendous. You could get some middle schoolers to write a better story than what was presented here and they could probably act better too.

Not impressed
CourtenaySutton2 November 2018
Warning: Spoilers
The acting from Sarah once she gets to her grandmother's place isn't well. The storyline was weak, and wasn't at all what I would classify as a thriller. The ending where the doctors are speaking in another language they didn't have subtitles so I wasnt able to understand what they were talking about other than the xray in front of them, and sarah wakes up and there's a shadow in front of her and the movie ends. I found it to be a terrible ending. If this movie as it says is the "finale game" they left out a lot to be answered.

Terrible...wow I want that hour of my life back.
bastet_19995 November 2020
Nothing exciting happens until an hour in and then things get soooo stupid and the acting sooo bad I actually shut it off because I couldn't bear wasting another 21 minutes of my life. I can usually push through a bad movie in case it gets better, but this one the plot just got worse, the characters got more annoying, the acting got worse, and not a single special effect. I couldn't bear to see it go even further downhill for another 21 minutes. Do not waste your time.

Fears and nightmares
TheLittleSongbird26 July 2018
'Ouija Séance: The Final Game' moderately drew me into seeing it, with a cool poster/cover, an intriguing if not particularly original premise and as someone with a general appreciation for horror. That it was low-budget, which from frequent personal experience is rarely a good sign due to that there are so many poor ones out there, made me though apprehensive as well as the low rating and poor reviews here.

Yet another film seen recently unfortunately, hence some reiteration because the exact same strengths and flaws those films have are present here, that to me was incredibly disappointing considering its potential which it doesn't do anywhere near enough with. 'Ouija Séance: The Final Game' is terrible, with a plethora of problems (huge ones too) and doesn't do enough with its potential, which was hardly small. There is really nothing to recommend other than the scenery not being as cheap as the rest of the film.

Unfortunately, it's shot and edited so poorly, looking like a school project shot on a shaky camera or a phone by an unsteady hand, and the drab and overly-dark colours. It was very clear that the film was made in a rush with no care or enthusiasm. In particular, the camera work was a nauseous assault on the eyes with its excessive amateurish-ness and the lighting is far too dark and a lot of the time inappropriately so.

Going on further to the negatives, the story does feel paper thin, disjointed and over-stretched and some of it feels vague, under-explained in the last third where the film especially became duller, more predictable, more senseless and less scary. Too many characters are too sketchy and with nowhere near enough to make one want to endear to them. Their annoying and illogical decision making and behaviours frustrates and are overdone.

Making the film feel bland and forgettable with not enough heart put into it. The effects are ropy at best, the sound quality is obvious and utilised cheaply (being too loud in the build ups and people's reactions) and it's best not mentioning the uniformly lumbering, awkward and histrionic acting that shows a huge indifference to the situation and what is going on.

Dialogue can be stilted and rambling, with lots of clichés, lots of unintentional humour that makes some of the film play like a really bad spoof and no depth whatsoever, while the pace goes to a standstill very quickly and drags on forever with very little going on worth caring about and useless padding, never recovering. Found too many the supposedly shocking moments not surprising or scary and the supposedly creepy atmosphere dreary, due to the excessive obviousness, a lot of dumb and vague moments and explanations and the lack of tension and suspense. Would not have minded the lack of originality (the film is extremely derivative and in a dumbed and watered down way) if the story and atmosphere were at least alright in execution, in reality they were both incredibly poorly done.

A lot of 'Ouija Séance: The Final Game' is often nonsensical and confusing character motivations, while too many of the things to make you jump or shocked are far from creative or scary and are pretty tame. The film often fails to make sense, at worst it's incomprehensible.

There is not enough threat, and what there is of it tends to be used poorly, it is completely unimaginative and more odd than creepy, completely failing to show any sense of horror or creativity. Everything here is neither creative, suspenseful or nail-biting and much of it absurd. Some badly sagging momentum too. The direction is leaden, with an all over the place visual style, and like their heart was not in it or ill at ease, with the non-existent chemistry between the characters and actors coming over as constantly random. This is very dreary and amateurish stuff that fails to be scary, interesting or easy to follow.

Concluding, terrible. 1/10 Bethany Cox

Fox_Prime3 December 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Do not read this other review by songbird or whatever. This person's review is as bad if not worse than the movie. I don't know if they think using big or uncommon words makes them look or sound smarter or what but hey... guess what? It really just makes you look like a pompous you know what. Now for the movie. Terrible acting, terrible script, just terrible movie. The movie has nothing to do with the title. The title would lead you to believe they summon something using a ouija board. Nope, it was already there waiting for them cause the main girl had a family curse so to speak. Like I said, plot holes, bad acting, just a terrible movie all around. Avoid this movie and avoid that other review.

A Major Bore-Fest
Camelot_200018 July 2023
This had all the potential of building itself up into a major thrill ride, but it didn't. There's all the ingredients of a good horror story where a bunch of young people are in a secluded house out in the woods with an evil spiritual presence to deal with. There's the eerie atmosphere surrounding the whole thing, but nothing pretty well happens during most of the movie. Sure, they release a "demonic presence" by using a wooden Ouija Board they find in a mysterious room in the house. We don't get to see much of that demon though except for a few shadows on the walls. It's more of a "psychology horror" with barely any supernatural elements thrown in.

There's a lot of talk involved and also conflict in romantic relationships as well as one eerie character who is the caretaker of the place, but the horror shocks just aren't there. It just drags on and on relentlessly until you can't wait to reach the end. That old house in Italy carries a lot of mystery, especially to the young woman who inherited it from her grandma who recently died. She admitted she didn't know anything at all about her deceased mother, her grandmother or about that house, but soon grows to discover that her family history was saturated with witchcraft and Satanism.

There's an obvious discovery about that in the "secret room" where the characters discover old hardcover books with spells and demonic illustrations in them. Still, they continue to act like they don't know what's going on even though it's obvious what's actually happening. They also find an Ouija Board and, of course, take to using it during a night of drinking and having fun. Do the portals of hell open after that? No, it's more talk, talk, talk, and trying to figure out what's going on. I was on the edge-of-my-seat at the beginning but felt bored later on. This had no major shocks at all for a good horror movie. A total dud.

chad-6131321 October 2021
Idk what to call this but it's definitely not a movie. Maybe I'll make a film about aliens, only show the aliens for a brief moment, then the rest of the 80 minutes will be about turtles. From beginning to end total trash.
