Here we have the music video for the Kanye West song "Wolves" from 2016, so neither really new nor old this one. It was directed by Steven Klein who already worked with some music greats over the years and regardless if you also put West into this category, he is certainly a worthy addition to every (music video) director's body of work. This one runs for exactly seven minutes, slightly longer than music videos usually do, but not too unusual for Kanye. The "cast" list here is also fairly spectacular, but this is also nothing unusual for West. Ambrosio, Crawford, Jenner and Kortajarena are stars on a level that most of the time you don't see in music videos. Still they are not really on a level (anymore) to make this one around them and take away too much much attention from West, who you of course also see in here. Now as for the song I was not too impressed. The catchiness and tune left me fairly unimpressed all in all and if stuff like "Joseph and Mary at the club" is good enough to make an impact is for everybody him- herself to decide. Not for me mostly and I am not a religious person by any means, but it just feels "shocking" (somewhat) for the sake of it. If the quality of the song in other departments had been good enough, then I would have said okay I am perfectly fine with it, but I see nothing special in here. So kinda surprised critics liked this one a lot apparently. Buyers did not though and it was far from a commercial success comparable to the song with the same title for example by Selena Gomez. Now with that I am not saying that one was particularly good or so. But neither is this one here. Thumbs-down all in all, even if the music video in terms of tone fits the subject with all the darkness at least, so it is probably better to listen to the song with the video than only with the song and record itself. But neither is good enough for a positive recommendation. This is more like a puppy and not a cute one. Skip.
