It’s still unbelievable to think that Riley Keough didn’t have any real singing experience before starring in Amazon Prime Video’s “Daisy Jones & the Six.” Actually, most of the cast didn’t — which makes the tremendous sound of the band all the more impressive. “Daisy Jones & the Six” did what few other shows have done (perhaps “The Monkees” being the other most notable): turned a group of actors playing characters in a band… into an actual band.
But back to Keough for a second. Yeah, every story about her and “Daisy Jones” says the same thing: What? She hadn’t sang before? But she’s Rock Royalty. Some might argue it’s in the genes, but that’s just a fraction of it. Don’t sell Keough short. It was hard work and talent. And a lot more hard work. Keough and the “Daisy Jones & the Six...

Dave Grohl returned to his old stomping grounds in Washington, DC on Tuesday to help christen The Atlantis, a new 450-person capacity replica venue of the original 9:30 Club. Grohl’s Foo Fighters had the honors of becoming the first band to take the stage at The Atlantis, and they turned in a thrilling 22-song, two-hour performance.
Appropriately, the concert kicked off with Grohl reuniting with Pete Stahl, his old bandmate in the DC hardcore band Scream. Together, they covered the Bad Brains song “At The Atlantis.” From there, Foo Fighters launched into a set primarily consisting of greatest hits — plus a few more surprises.
After dedicating Foo Fighters’ performance of “Break Me” to Foghat, Grohl managed to work in a few lines from “Slow Ride.” He welcomed his daughter, Violet Grohl, to sing on “Shame Shame” and “Rope,” and invited friend and 9:30 Club owner Seth Hurwitz to drum on “Big Me.

Foo Fighters played their first full-band concert of 2023 at Bank of New Hampshire Pavilion at Meadowbrook in Gilford, Nh on Wednesday. The show served as a sort-of warm-up ahead of the band’s run of summer festival appearances. It also marked Foo Fighters’ first public gig with new live drummer Josh Freese, who has stepped in for the late Taylor Hawkins.
The setlist spanned a total of 21 songs, kicking off with “Rescued,” the lead single from their new album, But Here We Are. They further previewed the album with performances of “Under You,” “Nothing At All,” and the album’s title track.
During the show, Dave Grohl also paid tribute to Hawkins with an emotional solo rendition of “Cold Day in the Sun,” which marked the first live performance of the song in five years. “This is something I never thought I’d have to do,” Grohl said prior to the performance.

Foo Fighters have revealed Josh Freese as their new live drummer.
Foo Fighters debuted their new touring lineup on Sunday during a pre-tour streaming event called “Foo Fighters: Preparing Music For Concerts.”
Prior to revealing Freese as their new live drummer, Foo Fighters teased other potential replacements in a funny skit that featured appearances from Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Chad Smith, Tool’s Danny Carey, and Tommy Lee of Mötley Crüe.
Freese replaces longtime Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins, who tragically passed away in March 2022 at the age of 50. Foo Fighters’ new album, But Here We Are, is dedicated to Hawkins.
Freese is a logical replacement, a drummer’s drummer with a resume that’s bar none. Over the years, he’s drummed for everyone from Vandals to Devo to Nine Inch Nails to Sting. As a testament to his versatility, during Coachella 2022, he played with both 100 gecs and Danny Elfman on the same day.

An audience at a screening of Joker on opening weekend self-evacuated a Long Beach theater after a man was acting suspiciously.
According to the Long Beach Post, police were dispatched to the Regal Edwards theater in Long Beach Towne Centre on Saturday after they received calls that there were shots coming from the theater. Long Beach police spokeswoman Arantxa Chavarria said that the moviegoers self-evacuated the theater because of a “suspicious subject inside.”
The official Long Beach Police Department posted a statement on their official Facebook page saying, “Officers were on scene within a minute of dispatch & discovered patrons had self-evacuated due to a suspicious male adult who was wearing a backpack and looking out at the crowd near an emergency exit inside the theater.”
They added, “The suspect was detained and was not found in possession of any weapons, however he was taken into custody for an unrelated outstanding warrant.

Last year, Mary Shelley's Frankenstein celebrated its 200th anniversary, and this year, renowned independent filmmaker Larry Fessenden brings the timeless tale to life in modern-day Brooklyn with Depraved. A haunting and heartfelt look at the capabilities of science and the corruptive corners of the human soul, Depraved recently had its world premiere at What the Fest!?, and Daily Dead had the great pleasure of catching up with Fessenden to discuss the cinematic influences, real-life parallels, and standout performances of his bold new film.
Depraved is really going to stick with me. Last year was the 200th anniversary of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, and it's so cool that you were able to do your modern-day reimagining of that story. Is Frankenstein one of your favorite stories? How long have you wanted to tell your own version of it?

“Survivor: Edge of Extinction” is now four episodes in, so we are starting to get a sense of who will be the main players of this season and who are destined for elimination. The overall edit of this cast has been somewhat lopsided considering the same group of people has gone to Tribal Council every single episode, which means we don’t really have a sense of half the cast’s gameplay quite yet. With the original Manu tribe getting so much focus, there hasn’t been much room for original Kama to shine, though we have seen highlights from a handful of them. Below you will find my ranking of the seven “Survivor” castaways with the worst edits so far, whether that means they haven’t been shown much on the show or they have been seen in a negative light.

Arcade Fire turn the classic Disney tune “Baby Mine” into a swooning indie-rock gem for Tim Burton’s upcoming live-action remake of Dumbo, out March 29th.
Peppering the tender lullaby with an array of orchestral flourishes, Arcade Fire find a new kind of tenderness in a song that’s been recorded by everyone from Betty Noyes (who did the 1941 original) to Brian Wilson, Bette Middler and Rosemary Clooney. Adding an extra layer of poignancy, Arcade Fire’s Win Butler explained in a statement how recording the song became a family affair.

Anyone who’s attempted to write an oral history knows they aren’t easy. Stitching together the threads of dozens — if not hundreds — of hours of interviews with multiple people into a cohesive narrative can drive anyone bonkers. So the fact that Taylor Jenkins Reid decided to use this format for her latest novel, Daisy Jones & the Six, which centers on a fictional 1970s rock band, may seem like a masochistic endeavor.
“I wanted you to feel immersed in it, and not like you were reading fiction, but like you were there.
