Asobi Asobase - Workshop of Fun
Tweekums30 September 2018
This school girl anime is centred on Hanako, Olivia and Kasumi; three friends who are second years at an all-girls middle school. They are the members of the unofficial Pastimers Club; the pastimes in question being talking or doing what they feel like at the time. We don't just see them hanging out together; they interact with other students and a teacher they try to make their official adviser.

This looks like many other anime series but once one starts watching it feels different... and certainly delivers the laughs. The character designs are distinctive, some might say ugly, but that fits with the humour of the series. The characters are a lot of fun in their own ways; Olivia pretends that her Japanese is poor but in fact she is fluent... her English on the other hand is below average; Hanako introduces the others to some odd games and Kasumi isn't keen on games and enjoys writing yaoi stories. Overall I'd certainly recommend this hilarious series.

These comments are based on watching the series in Japanese with English subtitles.

Couldn't stop laughing

Give it a try if u like anime like grand blue, prison school or konosuba. The comedy is well written and doesn't feel cringe or forced . It's available on YouTube too.

Great school girls anime!

Warning: Spoilers
I tell ya, the comedy in this man, so freakin good!! I just love how we see three school girls with different personalities, really combine together well with other characters involved in the anime. I also loved how they referenced other anime and American culture such as Batman & Detective Conan. It really was clever in a way like they really made laugh so much! The baby scene in the last episode made me laugh the hardest! You don't expect a baby acting like a perv and talking in a deep man's voice like omg it was so unexpected xD

Hands down, this anime is better then "Daily Life of School Boys". No offense to fans who like that show but it was rather bland. Whereas this anime does brighten up your day whenever you feel down! Watch it, I damn dare you!

Best comedy
cjsoto-377299 September 2018
It's been some years since an amazing comedy anime has come out. This one is by far one of these best if not the best comedy it's up there with nichijou and gintama. I haven't enjoyed myself or laughed that hard in a long time basically every episode has my sides splitting. I've also fallen in love with Hina Kino her acting even though this is a comedy has so much passion so much emotion in her voice I can't wait to see her in more shows she's really shining in this role. She's put an A+++ effort and deserves as much honor as possible not to take away from Rika nagae or konomi kohara they too are putting amazing effort in. Together all three of them have brought such life into this show it's astonishing. Hope this show gets many more seasons. 15/10 in my book totally worth a watch or 5

12 episodes of pure gold.

Warning: Spoilers
This has to be one of the funniest anime's I've seen since Shimoneta. Asobi is set around 3 high school girls that are quirky, to say the least, and form a club called "The Pastimers Club" and from the first eipsode we get to see a teacher taste, what he presumes is urine, and we even get to see some traditional Japanese pastimes, which are close to our Indian Burns, and Swirlies in that they are more to inflict pain rather than fun, but you'll have fun watching it.

It's offbeat and funny as heck.

I thought it was a cute Slice of Life but i got something better it return its wacky but not too out there to be annoying, and on top of all that, it has the best voice acting ever IMO.

It succeeds at what it tries to do.

I watched episode one and its definitely good. Its well-written and over-the-top. The animation is great, and everything is done well. The problem is that I didn't really find it that funny. I don't like the kind of comedy its going for. I would recommend this, but I wouldn't keep watching.

Girls Have Fun
CasuallViewer27 November 2021
A story about three cute and innocent middle school students whose personalities complement each other. Spanning 12 episodes, these girls form a bond and enjoy time with each other in a way that is quite different from what the usual perception is of what girls may have for hobbies or do during their pastime's. You have your karaokes, shopping sprees, café hangouts, etc., but these three have other things in mind and in the process, bond over and have a blast that's uniquely of the Pastimers Club.

What I find very likeable about this anime is that it breaks down stereotypes in a very fun fashion. It is wild and zany, but also genius in a way. Each episode is made up of short stories or narratives that continue on to the next. The story however sort of cuts short after the twelfth episode (when you don't count the OVA), but other than that, Asobi Asobase is a fun watch. The opening and ending tracks are a must watch/listen too as well (at least for the first episode) as it really sets the tone for the rest of the anime.

A comedic relief, Finest!
CyrilMartin6 February 2021
This anime might look like your typical girl anime but it's not, this is the girl version of the anime Danshi Koukousei no Nichijou but with middle school girls. This reminiscent of the nostalgic memories of your school days which have your funny memories of it.

The story is not complex, the three main characters Olivia, Honda, and Kasumi who met in an uncircumstantial way formed a club called the Pastime Club. They're a peculiar trio each with their own traits and gains, we see a number of other characters too who come into the lives of these three main characters. The story comprises several sketches of different scenarios that take place around the main characters and their Club. There isn't a minute where these sketches are not funny, we see their daily lives in a most hysterical way.

The sketches were damn funny, it wasn't forced and the atmosphere had a great comedic presence. The voice acting deserves high praise those were some of the best, opening and closing music are lovely and mental respectively, the directing was great. Really loved this.

New Japanese High School Girl Comedy
sdjmsfd15 March 2023
Comedies like this are so hard to find!

It was best to express the directing shown in the original cartoon well.

Above all, each character was fun, so I could imagine what kind of comedy would come out if I was alone in the classroom.

Three high school girls are the main characters, but there is nothing more feminine than the comedy genre. But that's the point.

The original author knew that, so he would have shown us a laugh with such a directing.

What surprised me even more was that a new actor was cast in this work.

I was worried that it would be weird, but there was no need to worry.

Even if this work comes out in the 2nd season, I will be completely convinced.

Psycho girls making adults ROFL
Ladiloque16 June 2022
Recently I've watched a lot of productions focused on kids/teen girls. I'm not sure there has a been a statistical increase in this sort of theme, but it feels like that. I don't mind at all, I find it refreshing, funny and fascinating.

A TV-series in particular grabbed my attention: the american "P3n1s". Very well done, overall funny and on occasions hilarious. With "Asobi Asobase" we have something similiar where to the weirdness, cuteness and sillyness we add a lot of insanity and "innocent" evilness. Moreover, the anime form allows for even more extreme situations/characterizations.

I'm definetely not the guy that finds a lot of stuff amusing, and I don't even remember to have been LMAOing to tears in recent years. Yet AA achieved that a couple of times. Adult entertainment though, doubt that your 16yo kid would enjoy that (they maybe even feel threathened by the depth of the reverse psychology in action).

Very well written, a special mention goes to the voice acting geniuses working with the artists. Unfortunately a couple of episodes didn't stay on par with the rest (might be partially the fault of a man in his 40s' low sensibility and acumen) otherwise it would have been a perfect 10.

The ending song is a MASTERPIECE of a new genre: "cute deranged death metal". It perfectly embodies these girls' teeny crazyness (not sure but I guess it's the anime's voice actors that sing it)! Look for the full 4mins version online.

Extreme fun
Nonomemes14 May 2023
The three protagonists of a girls only school end up forming the new "game club".

The 3 are really well sorted, most of the scenes happen inside of school, however the series is more oriented towards slice of life type, as the matter of discussions is almost any kind (for a normal teenager of such a school).

Laughing guarantee, Hanako is awesome.

What I disliked and why I can't give top score are mainly: 1. Maeda: a bit creepy and out of context, even considering a for-fun character, 2: If you watch the Sub. Version I think the dialogues are very fast.

In my opinion they also have a lot of potential improvement in terms of future content as many topics are just scratched in surface.
