It’s been a while since I’ve seen Josh Hartnett in anything, but he has cropped back up and has been cast in the new series for Spectrum Originals and Paramount Network entitled Paradise Lost.
He joins the already cast Bridget Regan (Jane the Virgin) in the drama, as well as Barbara Hershey (Beaches), Nick Nolte (Warrior), Gail Bean (Unexpected), Danielle Deadwyler (Reckoning), and Shane McRae (Sneaky Pete). Variety reports the following synopsis for the series:
“a Southern Gothic mystery about a psychiatrist who moves with her family from California to her husband’s hometown in Mississippi, only to uncover shameful secrets that irrevocably change the lives of everyone involved.”
This sounds intriguing, and I’m ready to hear more. Let us know if this is sounds interesting to you. Are you a fan of Josh Hartnett?...

Joe Berlinger speaks about the human story behind his Ted Bundy feature Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil And Vile.
Ted Bundy was 32 years old when he was sentenced to death in 1979 for the brutal murders of two Florida State Chi Omega sorority sisters, Margaret Bowman and Lisa Levy, as well as three attempted murder charges for Kathy Kleiner, Karen Chandler, and Cheryl Thomas. The trial marked the first time in American history cameras were allowed in a courtroom, and Bundy used that to orchestrate a media circus. Serving as his own counsel, Bundy charmed veteran judge Edward D. Cowart, who called the defendant “a bright young man” with the makings of “a good lawyer.” The judge changed his tune on sentencing, classifying Bundy's crimes as "extremely wicked, shockingly evil, and vile."

Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile Director Joe Berlinger explains why he cut away from the violence of Ted Bundy.
Ted Bundy confessed to killing more than 30 people in the 1970s. Told through the eyes of his longtime girlfriend Liz Kendall, Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile, consigns this to subtext. But not because no one wanted to see Zac Efron, who stars as Bundy, committing such heinous acts. People did, and the film has been getting some flak about it.
Director Joe Berlinger doesn't focus his camera softly. His film Paradise Lost: The Child Murders at Robin Hood Hills, about the West Memphis Three, was criticized for its graphic documentation. Berlinger, who immersed himself in Bundy for his Netflix documentary Conversations with a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes, speaks with Den of Geek about how much violence is too much, and how much isn't enough.

There’s a daring concept behind this off-kilter Netflix movie about the kinder and gentler side of serial killer Ted Bundy that should have worked: How can a pretty face blind us to the demon lurking inside? Zac Efron perfectly embodies the hotness that drew women to law-student Bundy even after it became painfully obvious that this burglar, kidnapper, rapist, necrophile and mass murderer had strangled, bludgeoned and mutilated at least 30 women (there could be more) across seven states in the mid to late 1970s.

Exclusive: Oscar-nominated and Emmy-winning filmmaker Joe Berlinger has signed on to direct the feature film Slay the Dreamer, and he will also direct and produce a feature documentary on the same subject. Pic is based on the life of Rev. James Lawson, friend and advisor to Martin Luther King. A civil rights icon in his own right, Lawson was instrumental in the Sanitation Workers’ Strike in Memphis. Steven Spielberg wants the Oscars to stem the tide against the streaming revolution upending Hollywood. The director behind “Schindler’s List” and “Jaws” is putting his considerable weight behind the effort to prevent Netflix from cleaning up at future awards shows. His stance puts him in opposition with many members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences, the group that hands out the awards for film excellence.
“As much as I respect Steven and revere him as a filmmaker, he’s not reading the tea leaves,” said Stu Zakim, an Academy member and veteran publicist who worked on previous Spielberg releases. “That ship has sailed.”
Nevertheless, Spielberg firmly believes that Netflix and other companies that release their movies on streaming platforms at the same time they show in theaters should be barred from Academy Awards consideration. He’s reportedly looking to use his position on the Academy’s board...

True-crime drama Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil, and Vile is not a celebration of infamous serial killer Ted Bundy. Or so says Zac Efron.
Variety caught up with the actor recently to discuss every aspect of what is undoubtedly his most complex performance to date, though Efron was quick to stress that his feature, one helmed by Joe Berlinger of Paradise Lost, won’t glorify the indecent actions of Bundy, nor will it serve as a celebration of his crimes. Instead, Efron believes Extremely Wicked falls into the bracket of a “psychological” study in that it takes audience members up close and personal with a deranged individual.
I feel a responsibility to make sure that this movie is not a celebration of Ted Bundy. Or a glorification of him. But, definitely, a psychological study of who this person was. In that, there’s honesty.

Zac Efron makes a disarmingly charming serial killer in this Ted Bundy movie because it challenges you to live within his facade.
The idea of going to sleep next to Ted Bundy is a chilling thought. But despite being infamous now for the brutal murder of at least 30 women in the 1970s, there was a time—including during much of his trial—where many folks mistook him for a smiling, handsome law student. Zac Efron wasn’t sure if he could portray Ted Bundy in “Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile,” a drama that premieres at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. “Initially, I had reservations about playing a serial killer,” Efron tells Variety in his first interview about the project. “I’ve seen people make horror films like this before, and it seems like an aggressive play to separate yourself from a perceived image. And it’s got a lot of killing and hacking and slashing. I think I’ve seen that before too many times.”

Netflix has become one of the internet’s biggest hubs for true crime documentaries. Later this month, the streaming service will debut a project on perhaps its most high-profile criminal figure yet.
Joe Berlinger’s “Conversations With a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes” is a look into the acts and prosecution of the infamous serial killer, responsible for the deaths of over 30 women before being sentenced to death in 1979. As the series’ trailer shows, “Conversations with a Killer” features previously unheard audio interviews with Bundy during the time he was awaiting his execution.
As an overview of how Bundy got to that place in 1980, the series also looks to examine the way that his public trial turned the serial killer into an unexpected heartthrob of sorts among observers in person and in news reports. (The brutal evidence of photos of partially destroyed skulls serve as a jarring counterpoint to the...

Way before the modern craze of the true crime documentary, filmmaker Joe Berlinger had already released three of the best entries in the genre with his “Paradise Lost” trilogy of HBO films. Back when Steven Avery wasn’t on anyone’s radar, Berlinger and his filmmaking partner Bruce Sinofsky brought true crime to the mainstream with the docs about the West Memphis 3. And now, Berlinger is hoping to do the same again with a new docu-series about the notorious killer Ted Bundy.

While nothing has been established, bike stealing teens on True Detective season 3 might be a nod to the West Memphis Three.
True Detective Season 3 has only just begun and the suspects in the Purcell missing children case are piling up. Series creator and writer Nic Pizzolatto has been known to dig deep into the criminal underground for inspiration, and the state of Arkansas has more than a few skeletons buried in its mountainous woods. The kids who disappeared at the beginning of True Detective were spotted by quite a few of their neighbors on the afternoon they were last seen and we don't know who are witnesses and who might be the abductor. We see a scrapper, several people on the block and a gang of teenagers in a purple Volkswagen Beetle. If the kids look guilty perhaps it’s because they might be a nod to the West Memphis Three.

Netflix is adding another true-crime series to its roster, this time focusing on notorious serial killer Ted Bundy.
The streaming service, home to Making a Murderer, The Keepers and numerous other crime docuseries, will premiere Conversations With a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes on Jan. 24. The date is exactly 30 years after Bundy was executed for the 1978 murder of Kimberly Leach.

Zac Efron shared an up-close-and-personal look at his character, serial killer Ted Bundy, in Joe Berlinger’s crime thriller “Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile.”
“Ready for Sundance!” Efron tweeted on Thursday, following Wednesday’s announcement that the movie would be premiering at the Sundance Film Festival in January.
In the photo, Efron stars as Bundy, and he seems to be held up in a courtroom.

“Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile” follows one of America’s most notorious murderers from the perspective of his girlfriend Elizabeth Kloepfer (played by Lily Collins), who struggled to accept the reality of her boyfriend’s nature.
The thriller is directed by “Paradise Lost” helmer Joe Berlinger and also stars John Malkovich as Edward Cowart, the judge who presided over Bundy’s trial in 1979. Haley Joel Osment, Kaya Scodelario and Jim Parsons also star.

I’ve got an intense trailer here for a upcoming crime thriller called The Informer. The movie stars Joel Kinnaman as a former special ops solder who gets into some major trouble that leads him to go undercover for the FBI. This job eventually lands him in a maximum security prison where he must infiltrate the mob to take down a powerful crime boss.
The movie actually looks really good and features a great supporting cast that includes Rosamund Pike, Clive Owen, Common, and Ana de Armas. Here’s the synopsis:
Honorably discharged Special Ops soldier Pete Koslow’s (Joel Kinnaman) world is turned upside-down when he is jailed after a fight to protect his wife (Ana de Armas). He’s given a chance for early release by becoming an informant for the FBI (Rosamund Pike and Clive Owen) and using his covert skills in an operation to take down The General,...

Mumford & Sons became one of the most unlikely success stories of the 21st century thanks to a sound that combined the ancient authenticity of banjo-hammering folk music and the polished, anthemic pump of modern rock — like a horse and buggy designed in a Tesla factory.
But the Mums weren’t satisfied to spend life staging hoedowns in sold-out hockey arenas, so they ditched acoustic instruments and plugged in for their third LP, 2015’s Wilder Mind, an indie-rock-steeped affair recorded in Brooklyn with Aaron Dessner of the National that doubled down...

The 21 short and feature-length films, including six European and six German premieres, that make up this year’s Focus programme at exground filmfest provide a perfect opportunity to get to know the rich tradition of Filipino film culture and explore current strains of socio-political discourse in and about the country beyond the official narrative propagated by the increasingly authoritarian Philippine state.
The programme brings together works by internationally celebrated filmmakers such as Lav Diaz, Khavn De La Cruz and Jet Leyco with lesser-known gems from up-and-coming directorial talents, all conveniently shown with English and German subtitles. In addition, several of the films will also be screened in Frankfurt am Main and Darmstadt after the festival. An extensive accompanying program, including two exhibitions, two panels featuring high-calibre guests and lectures on the subjects of a full century of Philippine filmmaking and the current human rights situation in the country will serve...

Inspired by the fantasy stories of writers like C.S. Lewis (The Screwtape Letters), Dante (The Divine Comedy), Milton (Paradise Lost), the Book of Revelations, and the “seven deadly sins,” Hellgate Academy is about a young man from Astoria, New York who learns after years of living as a human, that he is actually a Demon. …

Ok, that's a massive oversimplification. But documentaries fill a much different role in the culture than films or television. A good documentary is ideally both entertaining and a learning experience. All the streaming services have a documentary presence on their servers to some extent and here we break down what Amazon has to offer.
The documentaries of Amazon Prime are as entertaining and informative as any other source. Notice, however, that Mr. Bezos seems...

Diablo contains fictional evils so great, they could only be inspired by the real world.
While some of us speed through the Diablo franchise riding a storm of mouse clicks conjured to defeat our enemies and get to the sweet loot, there is a more patient breed of player who chooses to explore the reasons behind the game's chaos. They analyze every tome and moment of seemingly inane babbling. In doing so, they have come to know that the Diablo games are rich in story and mythology. At the heart of that mythology are the Great Evils.
Diablo's Great Evils are the beings responsible for every dark cloud that hangs over the games' grim landscapes. Some characters worship them, but nearly all fear them. You'll come to fear them as well once you are staring down their monstrous forms in some cramped room loaded with minions...
