Isabella Rossellini's Green Porno and Other Shorts is now showing on Mubi in many countries.Green Porno: Mantis. Ask any film lover about Isabella Rossellini, and the first image that springs to their mind is most likely to be the star’s iconic performance as songstress Dorothy Vallens, the femme fatale of David Lynch’s Blue Velvet (1986), a glamorous yet tortured vision draped in sensual, shimmering black. Revealing a delightfully eccentric side to her screen image, Rossellini’s directorial career ventures into a very different realm of sexuality: that of the mating and maternal habits seen in the animal kingdom. Rossellini’s playful and educational micro-shorts—divided into three series cheekily titled Green Porno (2006–2008), Seduce Me (2010), and Mammas (2013)—are vaudevillian studies in animal behavior, awash in puppetry, construction-paper sets, and slapstick. In addition to her writing and directing duties, Rossellini also gamely performs these frisky rituals in inventive,...

Porno for Pyros will make their upcoming “Horns, Thorns, En Halos” farewell tour available for everyone to experience. The band’s February 18th gig at The Belasco in Los Angeles will be viewable as a paid livestream via the streaming service Veeps.
After reuniting to play a few festival gigs and club shows in 2022, Porno for Pyros revealed that their first full-fledged tour in more than a quarter century would also be their last. The North American outing kicks off February 13th in Santa Ana, California, and runs though a March 10th show in Montclair, New Jersey (pick up tickets here).
In speaking with Heavy Consequence, frontman Perry Farrell discussed the band’s decision to make their reunion tour a farewell outing. “Well, I think the way to look at it … this is just my business – how I’ve got my life set up,” said the singer. “So, I’ve got Porno for Pyros,...

After playing a few reunion shows last year, Porno for Pyros recently announced a 2024 North American farewell tour.
And while a press release announcing the tour revealed that original members Perry Farrell (vocals), Peter Distefano (guitar), and Stephen Perkins (drums) would be taking part, a bassist was unconfirmed.
That led us to wonder: Would it be original bassist Martyn LeNoble or latter-era bassist Mike Watt? Or someone else altogether?
So, when Heavy Consequence caught up with Farrell recently to discuss the band’s upcoming EP and farewell tour (tickets available here), the singer gave us the scoop on who will be playing bass on the 2024 outing, albeit a bit cryptically at first.
“Martyn LeNoble is a wonderful guy – he loves the outdoors, he loves to track animals out in the wild,” began Farrell. “He really is a naturalist. By the time we got the tour together, Martyn was heading out to the forests.

On the heels of announcing their farewell tour, Porno for Pyros played a secret loft party in downtown Los Angeles over the weekend. The gig saw the band performing with Mike Watt, who served as the group’s bassist from 1995 to 1998.
Watt actually played with Porno for Pyros during their first reunion show last year at Welcome to Rockville, while original bassist Martyn LeNoble joined the band for their other 2022 gigs. A press release for Porno for Pyros’ 2024 farewell outing lists Perry Farrell, Peter Distefano, and Stephen Perkins as the touring band, leaving it a bit of a mystery as to who will be playing bass on the full tour.
During the loft show, Porno for Pyros performed a four-song set that included the live debut of recent comeback single “Agua,” along with classic tracks “Good God’s://Urge!,” “Tahitian Moon,” and “Pets.”

A day after Porno for Pyros rescheduled their first tour in 25 years, the reunited Perry Farrell-led band has released “Agua,” their first new song in 26 years.
The track, which the band worked on while rehearsing for their postponed reunion tour (now a farewell tour), was inspired by encounters the group had with dolphins while surfing in the Nineties, calling “Agua” “an ode to the sea and all its beautiful creatures.”
As such, Porno for Pyros have teamed with the Surfrider Foundation, which advocates for protecting the oceans, for the “Agua” release.

If you were in Simi Valley, California, this past Monday night and just wanted to knock down some pins at Harley’s Valley Bowl, then you were probably pretty surprised by what you saw when you walked through the bowling alley’s door: Dave Grohl hopping on stage with Taylor Hawkins’ son, Shane Hawkins, to play a set of classic rock covers with the late Hawkins’ former side project Chevy Metal. Check out the setlist and watch videos of the performance below.
That’s right, Grohl joined the band for an upbeat, uplifting performance, which not only included songs from classic artists like Van Halen, Led Zeppelin, Queen, and more, but also featured additional guest appearances from living rock legends. Unhappy is he to whom the memories of childhood bring only fear and sadness.
– H.P. Lovecraft “The Outsider”
There’s nothing that would be considered Lovecraftian about writer/director Laurence Vannicelli’s new film Mother, May I? but that quote leapt into my mind while I was watching it due to the backstories of the two leads, Emmet whose mother abandoned him as a child and his fiancee Anya’s psychiatrist mother gave her a childhood that lacked warmth and affection.
As the film opens Emmet’s mother has just died and left her large house in the country to him, the closest thing to contact they’ve had in years. He plans on cleaning it up and selling it Asap, the money will put them in a better position to start their own family. She sees...

Dino Sofos might not be a household name in the same vein as Edinburgh TV Festival MacTaggart lecturer Emily Maitlis or former BBC North America Editor Jon Sopel, but he has had a mighty impact on the British broadcasting news landscape of late.
The creator of the hugely-popular Brexitcast, Americast and Newscast BBC Sounds podcast franchise exited the BBC after 15 years last November to set up his own production outfit, Persephonica, with Tom O’Hara, and has since had a hand in tempting BBC lifers Maitlis and Sopel away from the corporation, amidst a wider talent exodus that has left Broadcasting House bosses nervous.
Along with another ex-bbc heavyweight, Policy Editor Lewis Goodall, Persephonica is gearing up for the launch of Global podcast The News Agents, a daily audio show “holding power to account without fear or favor,” according to Sofos, who speaks to Deadline in the weeks before the launch.

The subject of the cursed movie or film in horror cinema is a rather played out and frequent trope in modern cinema, with everything from “Cigarette Burns,” “Porno” and “Antrum: The Deadliest Film Ever Made” to name a few of the films utilizing the concept. This lack of originality extends to the rest of director Kim Jin-won’s competently-made if overall generic Amjeon, now available on Shudder.
Working on her thesis project in film school, Mi-jung (Seo Ye-ji) decides to transfer the focus onto a new horror film when one of her classmates informs her about a cursed movie shot by a legacy student. Informed about what happened to the original director and crew that shot the movie, she and her friend Joon-seo (Ji Yoon-ho) begin to investigate the legacy of the tape and discover the truth involving what happened to Jae-hyun (Jin Seon-kyu), the director and...

The company will distribute the film theatrically in the U.S. in April and has partnered with Cranked Up Films for home entertainment. Svod rights in North America previously sold to AMC Networks’ Shudder, where it will debut later this year.
Directed by Keola Racela from a screenplay by Matt Black and Laurence Vannicelli, the pic follows a group of seemingly wholesome young movie theatre employees being tempted and terrorized by a sex demon.
Following its SXSW debut, the film also screened at genre festivals including Fantasia, Sitges, and Telluride Horror Show.

We interview the My Dad Wrote A Porno team as Jamie Morton's father’s erotica is brought to the world stage for an HBO special.
This article comes from Den of Geek UK.
It was 2015 when Jamie Morton first opened book one of Belinda Blinked. Written by his father under the pen name Rocky Flintstone, the erotic series follows the risqué comings (ahem) and goings of Belinda Blumenthal, the Worldwide Sales Director for kitchenware retailer Steeles Pots and Pans.
The podcast My Dad Wrote A Porno was off to saucy start … and the book was bad, very bad. There was talk of runnels of liquid, unattractive perspiration and weirdly specific detail about where clothes were placed after being ripped off in the heat of the passion. It was unintentionally hilarious.

Movie theater employees in a conservative small town accidentally unleash a succubus one Friday night in Keola Racela's new horror comedy Porno, and following the movie's world premiere at the SXSW Film Festival, we caught up with composer Carla Patullo to discuss creating the spooky and seductive sounds of a succubus, collaborating with Racela on the score, and seeing the movie with an audience for the first time at the festival.
Thanks for taking the time to catch up with us, Carla, and congratulations on your score for Keola Racela’s new horror comedy, Porno. How did you get involved as the composer for Porno?
Carla Patullo: Thank you! I really enjoyed composing music for it. Last year, I was accepted into the Sundance Film Music and Sound Design Lab, and they paired me with Keola. I was sent a link to the film prior to talking with Keola,...

Movie theater employees in a conservative small town look forward to unwinding every Friday night when they watch a movie after hours, but they get more than they bargained for when they watch a film that unleashes a sex demon in the new movie Porno. Following the horror comedy's world premiere at SXSW (check here to watch a clip from the film), we've been provided with an exclusive track from the film's score to share with Daily Dead readers.
Composed by Carla Patullo and titled "Don't Lose Your Edge//You Wicked Demon," the exclusive track can be listened to below, and here's what Patullo had to say about the making of the track:
"Don't Lose Your Edge//You Wicked Demon is a track that I made by combining two cues. One cue happens in the basement of the movie theater which is filled with an otherworldly energy. There's a Succubus in the movie,...

Filmmakers and cinephiles undoubtedly remain haunted by certain urban legends in film. When my mother told me about Snuff, an alleged South American snuff film that screened in the 70s in New York, it haunted me to my core for years. A few weeks ago I caught it at Quad Cinema’s “Rated X” series and found it to be a hilariously unwatchable mess, but that’s a story for another review.
Porno has a terrific concept and effective execution for much of its first half: a group of religious high school students working at their majestic local downtown twin movie theater stumble across a secret basement screening room where they find a satanic porno that might very well be a lost Alejandro Jodorowsky film or an upcoming sequel to The Love Witch.
Set in 1992 when the only options at this mini-multiple are Encino Man and A League of Their Own,...

Porno is admittedly not my kind of film: A B-grade horror drenched in blood which proudly displays testicular decimation and dripping demonic double-d’s. With that said, it also hosts an array of successful comedic bits thanks to an (also) admittedly/occasionally smart screenplay by Matt Black and Laurence Vannicelli, and a solid exhibition of teenage companionship at its core, which seems to be a driving theme at this year’s South by Southwest Film Festival. Unfortunately, due to my newfound tolerance levels, Porno feels more like a macroaggression against the easily queasy than anything else.
Personally, I find it difficult to enjoy a movie I mostly watched with my hands draped over my eyes (something I really almost never do), though a lot of the people around me seemed to be having a good time. Again, not my kind of thing.

In response to our current political hellscape, it seems there’s never been a better time for horror lovers, from box office hits like “It” and “A Quiet Place,” to instant indie classics such as “Hereditary” and “Suspiria.” Fewer and farther between, however, are newer additions to the beloved subset of horror-comedies, though “Get Out” and the burgeoning “Happy Death Day” franchise stand out as two successful (and very different) examples of how to marry humor and horror. That’s why “Porno,” which recently premiered in competition at the SXSW Film Festival, represents such a thrilling entry to the genre. This gory teen comedy blends laughably outrageous carnage with a legitimately scary plot to delightful ends. Throw in a winking fetish for cinephile culture and audiences are sure to go wild for the gutsy film.

The crew of a small town movie theater stumbles into a boarded up basement and comes back with more than they bargained for in director Keola Racela's Porno, one of the several horror comedies anchoring SXSW's Midnight section this year. It's fitting that this film, set in a small town with a bunch of Christ-loving movie nerds, should have its premiere in Austin, which is essentially an overgrown small town filled with movie nerds that has itself become a kind of weird cinephile mecca. In Porno, the power of film corrupts the youth of this early '90s postcard existence by bringing temptation into an otherwise pretty saintly town. As they are getting ready to close down for the night and having their daily debate over...
