Disappointed
debumymailbox14 December 2018
Not found the standard maintained in previous ones. Storyline is not strong and compact and too slow for a detective film. Disappointed.....

An Attempt.
TheNonSmoker16 March 2021
This is basically an attempt to link the legendary Byomkesh Bakshi to our current generation, in which it failed and lost it's authenticity miserably. 🙁

It's a drama not a thriller movie.

Storyline is like a drama not a suspense thriller which we want from Byomkesh.

Really a disaster from byomkesh. Story line is one of the worst quality I have ever seen. Byomkesh deserves better.

Why 'Byomkesh' humilated
dimajumdar78 November 2018
It is a total disrespect to character -Byomkesh. Pure story line... Worst script. The old man mat be anyone.. Not necessarily be byomkesh. It is a very cheap idea to catch audience.

Excellent storyline.
arnabchat-6270619 October 2018
It takes real guts to write upon a character created by Sardindhu Banerjee. But ,let me tell you, this is an excellent script and very powerful acting from all the actors, the story duels through three generations of Baksi family, the interpersonal relations, the suspense and the manner in which a resistant grandson gets motivated to pick up the byomkesh line, and how Byomkesh at the sunset of his life manages to save his son from a treacherous plot is really worth seeing more than once. Also the background song ' tumi jao' goes very well with the script. It will not be wrong to say, this movie pumps in more life to Byomkesh.A really good movie...

More a Yatra

A pathetic drama labeled as a suspense movie. The Direction and the acting is poor. The worst is the role of the girlfriend was pathetic to say the least. If you like Byomkesh movies then do not, I repeat, do not watch this movie and waste your time.

One of the worst detective stories told in the name of Byomkesh Bakshi
dipanjandutta-3371518 August 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Horrible story writing is what I would say to begin with. I'm usually not of the kinds who writes off efforts of filmmakers and actors. However, in case you are making something on a legendary personality like Byomkesh Bakshi, you've got to be cautious. Not only does the film fails to be cautious it fares miserably.

Too many loose ends, bad script, a seemingly lull performance by Abir in the younger lookalike grandson of an old Abir-ed Byomkesh are few reasons the story fails to impress completely.

Going by the director's effort the film looked more like an effort to be the launchpad for Abir playing Satyaki Bakshi in a series of upcoming stories. However, the film in that effort, misses the plot and falls flat on its face.

A 2 star from me for the wonderful prosthetic makeup that's done on Abir and for weaving a few wonderful cinematic moments like:

1) The grandad, the son and the grandson smoking cigarettes at the same time in different contexts of life 2) The dialogues between Byomkesh, Ajit and Satyavati 3) The last scene that depicts how even a star faces solitude in the absence of near and dear ones.

A masterpiece
thesamyadeep23 October 2018
Whoever rated this movie below 7 clearly is dumb and didn't understand this movie. The plot is not complexed enough but the way the movie is made, makes it little difficult for the common people to understand.

Outstanding Acting level...
karsandip8 October 2018
A full of thriller movie with tons of suspenses. If you think that Bengali film industry has over, then you must watch that movie. Abir Chatterjee will show you no it isn't over yet. We must admire that Abir is fabulous for any kinds of intense role. That role of Byomkesh was really challenging. But, He has proved that he can do it & he has done so. I really praise by you Abir.

The Bengali Audience is not ready for Debaloy Bhattacharya
Debajyoti_G1 January 2021
You need educated audience for the appreciation of such experiments. I watched 'Bidaay Byomkesh' after being amazed by 'Dracula Sir' and 'Charitrahin 3" . Honestly Debaloy is a genius and he won't get his credit here. The audience is either uninitiated or mediocre. Bidaay Byomkesh might have a story that is not at all at par with Sharadindu's novels, but anyone who understands the nuances of filmmaking, will but be mesmerised by Debaloy's frames, light use, and colour grading. Abir and Sohini did quite good and Sujoy Prasad is a revelation in this movie. It is a must watch for lovers of alternate cinema. For Byomkesh fans, skip this.

Good attempt and Nice finishing
joychandrroy10 July 2022
Let me tell you something. The other reviewers are angry because well this was not actually a byomkesh type of setup we all read or knew.

But the silver is that it shouldn be . Because this setup is on a mordern society with improvised setup for the mordern culture. Did we ever ask why Sherlock in the mordern world has a mind palace, while there is no mention of it in the books ? No. Beacuse we liked the improvised setup . In this movie there are also such phases which is not connected to the original times, but it fits perfeclty in this generation. And the last twist elements is smthing which we have countered very few times in bengali cinema .

So my suggestion please watch it with a open mind. Yu guys will surely love it .

My personal opinion
rupamsr-3649819 May 2021
Many people are saying this movie is bad. But I liked this. The storyline was good. Abir Chatterjee's acting was outstanding. A perfect continuity of our favourite detective character.
