The Blood Window Showcase will scare Cannes once again. This time, with six new features, currently in progress.
During an exclusive screening on May 19, in Palais K, industry guests will get to see “The Tree House,” “1978,” “Fifteen,” “Eyes of the Abyss,” “Parvulos” and “Remanence: A Voltage Cosmic Tale.”
“One of the highlights this year is the quality of projects and their diversity,” said the head of the program Javier. C. Fernández.
“We have a coming-of-age story among zombie apocalypse in ‘Parvulos,’ a vengeful quinceañera with plenty of gore and dark humor in ‘Fifteen’ or even a horror tale set on a ship during the Falklands War in 1982 [‘Eyes of the Abyss’]. This is different from previous editions, focusing more on stories about exorcisms and urban legends. Now, there are offerings for every taste.”

Ventana Sur’s Blood Window stands out as one of Latin America’s most important events for the promotion and advancement of genre filmmaking.
According to Blood Window coordinator Javier Fernández, genre filmmaking has become a Helms Deep-type bastion for independent filmmakers looking to create cinema on their own terms and with limited budgets.
“Genre is, in Latin America, where independent filmmaking is still happening,” said Fernandez. “Many independent filmmakers are turning to the fantastic to find a place in the market. Overall production for genre films has stayed steady, but more independent directors are turning to genre to save that independent nature of production.”
More than that though, it has provided a launchpad for a number of filmmakers looking to work internationally. Latin American genre provided the roots of filmmakers like Guillermo del Toro (“Cronos”), “Don’t Breath” director Fede Alvarez and “It” director Andy Muschietti, recently linked to...

I’ve got a crazy trailer here for an insane new film called Abrakadabra that looks like a trippy and wild flick. The movie is a murder mystery thriller that is set in the world of magicians and this is the story description:
Dante, "The Great", a prestigious magician, accidentally dies during a risky magic trick. Thirty-five years later his son Lorenzo, also a magician, presents a magic show in one of the most important theatres in the city. From then on, a series of murders begins to take place that will seek to incriminate him. Lorenzo must discover who and why seeks to involve him before it is too late…
The film comes from the Onetti Brothers who previously made the films Sonno Profondo, and Francesca. Abrakadabra is said to be a final film in this “Giallo” trilogy, and it looks like it’s going to be a really weird and twisted movie.

Black Mandala presenta... A full trailer has debuted for an intriguing horror film titled Abrakadabra, the latest film by the Onetti Brothers (Luciano & Nicolás) who previously made What the Waters Left Behind and El Pulpo Negro. The brothers have been making their own version of the "Giallo" trilogy, starting with Sonno Profondo in 2013 and Francesca in 2015, and this is the final film in that trilogy. And they definitely go all out with that wacky, weird, twisted Giallo feel complete with the film stock grain and blood-splattered faces. The story follows a prestigious magician who presents a show, after which a series of murders occur, with the magician being framed. Starring Germán Baudino, María Eugenia Rigón, Clara Kovacic, Ivi Brickell, Gustavo D'Alessandro, Raúl Gederlini, and Pablo Vilela. This looks bloody and mad crazy. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Luciano & Nicolás Onetti's Abrakadabra, from YouTube: Dante, "The Great", a prestigious magician,...
