Jeff Bridges reveals he is all set to return to the Tron series that he helped to establish all the way back in 1982, for Tron: Ares.
After many years of waiting, Tron: Ares, a sequel to 2010’s Tron: Legacy, is finally in production. Tron: Legacy's director Joseph Kosinski hasn’t returned and neither have any of the film’s stars – well, apart from one (you can probably guess who it is from the headline). It doesn’t even look like Daft Punk will be returning to give us another memorable score for the third film in the Tron franchise.
It’s not quite all-new though, with reports stating that Jeff Bridges is all set to make an appearance in the film. Bridges himself revealed the news on the Film Comment podcast, stating that he was excited to be working with Jared Leto, the star of Tron: Ares.

Cameron Monaghan, one of the stars of the upcoming Tron: Ares, has praised its practical sets and visuals, while also reminding us that Tron: Legacy is 14 years old.
Sci-fi adventure sequel Tron: Ares is currently filming, with Joachim Ronning (Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales) directing.
Among the starry cast, which also includes Jared Leto and Gillian Anderson, you’ll also find Cameron Monaghan – an actor who looks so much like his character Cal Kestis in the Star Wars Survivor games that seeing photos of him is vaguely jarring. It’s a bit like seeing a videogame protagonist suddenly materialise in the real world – which, funnily enough, is what Tron: Ares is said to be about, with Leto playing Ares, “a fictional character who crosses over from the world of videogames to planet Earth.”
In a new interview with Collider, Monaghan has revealed an intriguing detail about...

When Tron first appeared in 1982, it became one of the most popular sci-fi films of the era and is now considered a cult classic. A sequel, Tron: Legacy, was released in 2010 and received mixed reviews, but that did not stop Disney from producing yet another sequel. Tron: Ares is set to be the next installment in the series and will serve as a standalone sequel to the two previous movies. Production began in January 2024 and Disney has now confirmed the film’s official theatrical release date, which is going to happen on October 10, 2025!
Plans for a sequel started emerging back in 2010 after Legacy, but several ideas and projects were scrapped along the way and the sequel seemed to be stuck in developmental hell. In 2022, it was confirmed that the movie was still happening and production was set to begin in 2023, but was initially postponed indefinitely due to the SAG-AFTRA strike.

The 2010 science fiction action film directed by Joseph Kosinski, Tron: Legacy, was a box office hit. Starring Garrett Hedlund, Jeff Bridges, and Olivia Wilde, the film is a direct sequel to Tron (1982), and is directed by Steven Lisberger. Made 28 years after the first movie, Tron: Legacy made up in visuals and sound what it lacked in story. The movie was also nominated for an Oscar that year in the Best Sound Editing category, but lost to Richard King for Inception.

Jared Leto leads the cast of Tron 3, that’s going by the name of Tron: Ares. And filming is finally set to get going…
It was back in 2010 that a filmmaker by the name of Joseph Kosinski smashed the box office record for a first time filmmaker, when Disney’s Tron: Legacy (pictured) proved to be a solid hit. Not the level of hit that Disney was perhaps looking for, but a hit nonetheless. Talk started not long afterwards about a Tron 3, but it all seemed doomed when Disney moved away from the project, and perhaps not unwisely, placed its chips on Marvel and Star Wars.
Fast forward to today, and Joseph Kosinski has gone on to be the director of the wonderful Top Gun: Maverick. Meanwhile, plans for a third Tron film have finally come to fruition. Tron: Ares is the name of the new movie, and...

When the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes ended, someone opened the floodgates for news pouring out of Hollywood. In addition to giving actors the go-ahead to hype their latest projects, updates for existing films and television series continue to rain like men. According to Collider, production for the long-gestating Tron sequel, Tron: Ares, starts filming in Vancouver after the holidays. Initially, cameras were supposed to roll in August, but the strikes delayed the process by several months. The shutdown was harsh, with Tron: Ares director Joachim Rønning expressing his disappointment about over 150 people terminated from the production.
“Today was supposed to be our first day of principal photography on Tron: Ares,” Rønning said in a straight-forward Instagram post in August. “Instead, we are shut down with over a hundred and fifty people laid off. It’s indefinite, which makes it exponentially harder for everyone…The AMPTP, SAG-AFTRA and WGA need...

It already took decades for a sequel to 1982’s “Tron” to arrive, but that eventually happened with 2010’s “Tron: Legacy.” Now, we’ve waited more than a decade for a third film, “Tron: Ares,” to arrive. And it appears that film is going to be delayed even more, but this time it’s not for any creative issues. Instead, it’s the ongoing WGA and SAG strikes, which have delayed the start of ‘Ares’ production, and the filmmaker behind the new sequel is voicing his frustration.

The ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike, now in its second month, has claimed yet another victim, as Tron: Ares has officially been delayed the same week it was set to begin filming. Coming hot off the news, director Joachim Rønning has expressed his frustrations on social media, urging there to be a better “safety net” as SAG-AFTRA and WGA (whose own strike has exceeded 100 days so far) continue to be in a stalemate with the AMPTP, the group at the center of both strikes.
The delay of Tron: Ares will result not just in a calendar shakeup but the loss of jobs for around 150 crew members. As such, director Rønning has not minced words on his take. As per The Hollywood Reporter, “Today was supposed to be our first day of principal photography on Tron: Ares. Instead, we are shut down with over a hundred and fifty people laid off. Filmmaker Joachim Rønning took to Instagram to let followers know that Monday was supposed to be the first day of production for his upcoming Disney movie, Tron: Ares, however, “we are shut down with over a hundred and fifty people laid off,” he says due to WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes.
“It’s indefinite, which makes it exponentially harder for everyone,” he adds.
Rønning then urged, “The AMPTP, SAG-AFTRA and WGA need to speed up the negotiating process and not leave the table until it’s done.”
“This is Hollywood. We close deals for breakfast. Why do we suddenly have all the time in the world when every day is so precious? These tactics are extremely frustrating. It’s time for diplomacy so we can get back to work – under conditions that are fair to everybody #amptp #sagaftra #wga,” he added.

Tron: Ares director Joachim Rønning took to Instagram to give an update on the long-awaited sequel and express his frustration with the SAG-AFTRA strike, which has delayed the start of the Disney film.
The Norwegian director (Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, Maleficent: Mistress of Evil) revealed the production was supposed to begin filming this week and instead had to lay off 150 crew members. Rønning teased the film would have a storyline centered around AI (as have the two previous films, to varying extent). While supporting the goals of the work stoppage, he also urged both sides of the contract dispute to resolve their differences.

Sarah Desjardins is uploading to the grid. The Yellowjackets actor is the latest addition to Tron: Ares, the upcoming third installment of the classic Disney film series.
Desjardins joins a cast that includes Jared Leto, Greta Lee, Evan Peters and Jodie Turner-Smith. Maleficent: Mistress of Evil filmmaker Joachim Ronning is directing Ares, which follows 1982’s Tron and 2010’s Tron: Legacy.
While the first Tron film centered on a video game designer (Jeff Bridges) entering his own creation, and the follow-up focused on his son (Garrett Hedlund) following in his footsteps, sources previously told The Hollywood Reporter that the new film will spend more time in the real world. The script from Jesse Wigutow and Jack Thorne is said to center on a sentient program that crosses over into the human world that is not ready for contact.

The long-awaited third entry in the Tron franchise is really picking up steam. Six years have gone by since it was first announced that Jared Leto was in talks to star in a Tron project called Tron: Ares, but things really started to come together around Leto earlier this year. First, Maleficent: Mistress of Evil and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales director Joachim Rønning signed on to direct the film. A couple months ago, we heard a rumor that Cillian Murphy might be reprising his Tron: Legacy role to be the villain in this film. Earlier this week, Evan Peters of Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story joined Leto in the cast. Now The Hollywood Reporter has broken the news that Greta Lee (Past Lives) will be playing “a leading role” in the film, while Variety reports that Jodie Turner-Smith (Queen & Slim) has also been cast.

Jodie Turner-Smith, who starred in 2019’s Queen & Slim, has joined the cast of Tron: Ares, the third installment of Disney’s technology-pushing movie series.

Daft Punk’s Thomas Bangalter has traded in his helmet for a baton. Today, April 7th, the French musician released his first solo work since the group’s breakup, an orchestral album called Mythologies.
The project was initially commissioned in 2019 by choreographer Angelin Preljocaj for a ballet of the same name. The end result is a 90-minute composition that “reveals a love of Baroque music and hints to traces of American minimalism,” according to a press release. Take a listen below.
After 28 years together, Daft Punk formally called it quits in February 2021. In a recent interview, Bangalter shed light on the reason for their breakup, saying he became increasingly uncomfortable with the convergence of music and technology.
On May 12th, Daft Punk will release a 10th anniversary edition of their final album, Random Access Memories. In the meantime, revisit their 10 most memorable musical moments here.

Slowly but surely, the global TV market is shifting.
Whether it’s mainly due to the rise of streaming platforms, the rush for international imports brought on by a worldwide production shortage, or an audience finally taking advantage of a wealth of options, series in languages other than English are in the middle of a boom.
While some shows have certainly helped spur that influx of new fans (including ones that can be found below), the nature of the modern TV world is that there are precious few shows anymore that become can’t-miss phenomena. Netflix recently amended its weekly Top 10 report to include viewing totals in English and non-English categories, where (to the extent that those numbers are accurate and transparent) the top slots in the latter frequently outpace the former.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians is getting a TV series adaptation coming to Disney+ in 2024. As the show continues to film its first season, creator Rick Riordan is teasing details of what fans can expect.
One of the Greek gods from the book series is Ares that will be portrayed by WWE wrestler Adam “Edge” Copeland. Riordan was thinking of “coraí” which means “wrestler” and “one who practices the sport of coraíocht.”
“I’m thinking about this because of some great scenes Adam Copeland has filmed for us recently as Ares, the god of war,” Riordan wrote on Mastodon. “As they used to say on the monster truck rally commercials of my youth: ‘You can pay for the whole seat, but you’ll only need the Edge!'”
In a previous post, Riordan gave insight into what it’s like to film the Disney+ series.

“Community” and “Love” star Gillian Jacobs and “Aladdin” break-out Marwan Kenzari are set to lead Berlin-set romantic comedy “Any Other Night.”
Written by Patrick Whistler and directed by Michiel Ten Horn, the comedy follows two strangers thrown together as their lives are falling apart. Freshly dumped Maggie (Jacobs) and flailing cab driver Max (Kenzari) meet the night of a crippling transit strike, with the latter loading all of Maggie’s worldly possessions into the back of his decrepit van-cab. What should have been a simple fare becomes a wild, late-night odyssey.
“Any Other Night” is produced by Mike MacMillan of Lithium Studios, the outfit behind Cannes Director’s Fortnight selection “Mobile Homes,” alongside Sol Bondy of One Two Films (“The Tale”). Todd Brown of XYZ Films executive produces the film with XYZ handling sales.

Disney’s extensive portfolio of properties gives them access to some of the biggest and most beloved franchises in Hollywood, an incredibly deep roster of brands that only got bigger when the Mouse House assumed control of the 20th Century Fox library, but the studio are adamant that come hell or high water, Tron eventually launches a multi-film series.
Jared Leto is currently in training to throw on the skintight leotard for next installment Ares, and by the time the movie hits theaters, it’ll mark just the third feature-length outing in a franchise that started almost 40 years ago. The cult classic original hardly set the box office alight in 1982, but gained a following thanks to the intricate worldbuilding and innovative visual effects, while Joseph Kosinski’s Legacy did a decent $400 million globally, but didn’t turn enough of a profit to justify a sequel.

Jared Leto already has major movie franchises on his plate, but the pile just recently grew with the confirmation of his starring role for the back-on-track Tron 3. While the star’s excitement over that film’s latest development—the hiring of director Garth Davis—was palpable, it seems that said excitement might have led to a slip of Disney state secrets, specifically the film’s official title.
Tron: Ares is the title that Leto cited, apparently mistakenly, in a recent tweet that—conspicuously enough—was subsequently deleted. Indeed, in the original version of the now-reposted and edited tweet, Leto similarly confirmed his starring role, but went so far as to divulge the full title of the film for which he has been cast. The tweet in question—seemingly designed as an impromptu title reveal—was a reply to another in which the star conveys gratitude for the role,...

Stephen King has been offering movie and TV show recommendations left and right these past few months. The acclaimed horror writer frequently lets his readers know what he’s watching and why he’s watching it through Twitter. A prolific storyteller, King has also made time to watch a fair bit of content during quarantine and his latest obsession, it seems, is a Netflix series called Dark, which is arguably the best sci-fi show on the platform.
Here’s what he had to say about it:
“Dark (Netflix) is dark and complex…and…well…very German. Terrific show. If you get confused, go to MetaWitches and check out Metacrone’s recaps. Detailed and helpful. You think the world is going to shit, then you find out other people are watching Dark and you say Thank You God, There’S Hope!”

Netflix added the Dutch horror series Ares to its library back in January and now, fans who’ve watched the show are warning first-time viewers that it may just be too scary to finish.
For those of you who aren’t familiar with the title, Ares follows a student who discovers the existence of a secret society and must then decide how much she wants to become involved in it. Shot mostly in and around the city of Amsterdam, it stars Dutch actors Jadie Olieberg, Tobias Kersloot and Lisa Smit, who all give believable and strong performances.
Created by Pieter Kuijpers, Iris Otten and Sander van Meurs, it’s also the latest foreign show to gain a fair bit of traction with the streamer’s American audience. Ever since the unexpectedly-huge success of Bong Joon-ho’s thriller Parasite, Netflix has been trying to cash in on our newfound appetite for foreign media.

Netflix is in the works on its first Dutch film — a crime comedy about a man looking to be the greatest hip-hop artist in the Netherlands.
Produced by Fremantle’s Fiction Valley, the untitled film is penned by award-winning “De Libi” writers Shady El-Hamus and Jeroen Scholten van Aschat. El-Hamus, who directed the pair’s previous film, will also direct the Netflix feature.
The crime comedy follows Richie Rich and his hip-hop ambitions, which are threatened when footage of his humiliating robbery by a gang of teenagers goes viral.
Lina Brouneus, director of co-production and acquisitions at Netflix, said: “We can’t wait to work with the extremely talented creators Shady El-Hamus and Jeroen Scholten van Aschat, (who) bring the entertaining story of Richie Rich to life.”

In essence Ares almost sounds like a lot of other shows and movies that have come along in the past, but with the terror factor raised to a level that’s so intense that people are actually scared to finish watching it. In a way it’s amazing to think that there’s anyone left in this world that’s shocked by anything that’s come across the TV, but given all that happens in this first season it’s not too hard to think that those with weaker constitutions or a great sense of right and wrong might cringe a bit and decide to pull

New Netflix series Ares may not have dropped last month with a huge amount of hype behind it, but the Dutch horror drama is beginning to develop a reputation as a show that’s almost too scary to finish.
Created and executive produced by Pieter Kuijpers, Iris Otten and Sander van Meurs, the first season of Ares tells the story of Rosa Steenwijk (Jade Olieberg), a first-year medical student who joins a sinister, secretive society in Amsterdam that’s been around since the Dutch Golden Age of the 1600s. As she slowly begins to realize exactly what she’s become a part of, Rosa must decide how far she’s willing to go rise up the ranks.
The eight-episode first season was released last month to generally favorable reviews, drawing comparisons to Ari Aster’s Midsommar and the Suspiria movies. Forbes, for instance, included Ares on their list of the...

Moviemaking hasn’t been kind to Robert Zemeckis these past few years. While Zemeckis has seen several small-screen successes as the executive producer of shows like “Manifest” and Netflix‘s “Medal of Honor” miniseries, Zemeckis’s big-screen efforts have been, well, mixed. “Welcome to Marwen” was a critical and commercial flop, grossing only $13 million worldwide against a reported budget of $39 million and earning an unimpressive 35% on Rotten Tomatoes.

After crafting some of the most clear-eyed, thrilling studio films of the last decade with Allied, Flight, The Walk, and, yes, even the fascinating Welcome to Marwen, Robert Zemeckis is entering the new decade with a perhaps more safe box office proposition: a new take on The Witches with Anne Hathaway, which still comes with some anticipation. While that will arrive this October, he’s now attached himself a new original, intriguing project.
THR reports he’s in final talks to direct Ares, a Warner Bros. sci-fi thriller scripted by Geneva Robertson-Dworet. Executive produced by Roland Emmerich, the genre-bending story follows “an astronaut whose space capsule crash lands in an African desert. As he rushes to reunite with his family, it is revealed that the mission was part of a larger conspiracy and that he may be carrying a secret that could forever change the world.”

Robert Zemeckis is in final talks to direct sci-fi thriller “Ares” for Warner Bros., an individual with knowledge of the project tells TheWrap.
“Birds of Prey” screenwriter Geneva Robertson-Dworet wrote the script which centers on an astronaut whose space capsule crash lands in the African desert. As the astronaut rushes to reunite with his family, it’s revealed that his astronaut’s mission is part of a larger conspiracy and that he may be carrying a secret that could forever change the world.
Along with directing, Zemeckis will also produce “Ares” with his ImageMovers partners Jack Rapke and Steve Starkey. Rideback’s Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich are also producing. Rideback produced awards contender “The Two Popes” as well as 2019’s billion-dollar hit, “Aladdin.” Kristin Winkler is also producing. Roland Emmerich is executive producing. Rideback’s Ryan Halprin will executive produce as will Jackie Levine.
