Beautiful scenery but boring movie
irishkate-8606421 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
My mum and I being from scotland got drawn into this movie. I really like Craig ferguson and Ford Kieran from still game. The scenery was breathtaking but the movie was blah. Kathie Lee was not a good fit for the part. There was zero chemistry between her and Craig. I don't know when they fell In love but it wasn't visible to us watchers. Then they got married out of nowhere. There wasn't really a story line it was all over the place. Then I kept thinking to myself at the end of the movie that there wasn't a single kiss between the two and well there was at the very end one kiss throughout this whole movie. Just a weird movie. Would I watch it again? No. But I wanted to watch it cause the trailer makes it look so good. Oh well at least I enjoyed some beautiful scenery throughout the movie.

A solid six and a half.

This is not a movie that was ever going to go over with movie snobs aka IMDB users lol! Chances are you will see this for free on a streaming service. It's worth a watch if you are 50 plus years old. Great scenery in Scotland that will make you want to visit. Kathy Lee is a decent actress and pairs well with CF. Go ahead and give it a try.

Nice little story, really bad acting
nancylmarine10 March 2021
When I saw this in Prime, I knew I wanted to watch it because... Craig Ferguson.

This movie is a bit of a removal from what we'd normally expect from Ferguson because of his decidedly bawdy nature in other shows/movies he's done. But, he definitely shines in this movie as the slightly sad, even more slightly curmudgeonly inn owner.

The one weak spot in this entire movie is Kathie Lee Gifford. Her acting skills are virtually non-existent and her delivery of her lines is childish and poor. Every move she made in the movie was wooden and too much. Subtlety is certainly not part of her personality.

As I watched this movie, I simply couldn't imagine the two of them getting together in real life. Had there been anyone else in the lead, it would have worked much better. A truly nice story was ruined by Kathie Lee.

A great 2020 Tonic

I really enjoyed this. I'd rate it 6.8. I thought the acting was great, the scenery splendid. A simple but sweet story well worth watching. I just don't get the negative reviews. If you're a dopey romantic, you should enjoy this.

Not so good

Not a great plot. Not a great script. Not great acting. But the scenery is incredible. Treat it as a travelogue for Scotland.

Loved this film
brian-854664 October 2020
I loved this film. I hadn't heard of Ms Kathie Lee Gifford, but I have to say she is as beautiful as she is talented. The script was flawless, very little schmaltz & a great deal of fun. The two.leads were brilliant together with the added talent of the chap who played Gavin, he was fantastic.

Ms Gifford also wrote all the songs and performed one or two, Whiskey and Wine is a particularly catchy little number, you could imagine Frank and Nancy Sinatra or Dean Martin and Barbara Streisand doing this as a duet.

A thoroughly enjoyable film, yes the ending is predictable by Ferguson stays cynical & dower enough for even the most macho of men to sit through with their wives.

Meh
AvidWatcher10127 May 2021
If I watch a romantic film, I want to feel something. This was a fairly pretty formulaic second chance type romance (widow who loved husband moving on with life) He and she start off finding each other annoying and irritating and it goes from there. Even at the high point (as always in romance - there is that darkest hour is just before dawn moment) I just didn't care. Zero feels. Zero romance. Decent acting from Mr. Ferguson but Ms. Gifford - well, an actress she is not. As mentioned by others - fabulous scenery.

Gentle comedy with heart
beachbum_moviefan4 October 2020
Then Came You is a great movie for fans of Craig Ferguson who also like simple, heartwarming stories. It's got some great lines, and the two stars have good chemistry together with their sparring, distinct personalities. It's not a fancy/glossy/polished movie, and it has a few awkward moments, but in it's heart it is about two older widowed people who meet, really enjoy spending time together, and learn from each other about what things are really important for their lives. There are a lot of good moments in this film. And of course, there is Scottish countryside, for Scotland lovers. It's a quite, quirky romance and well worth watching.

Scotland or the little we see of it is gorgeous
nadshi30 May 2021
Heartwarming A Feel Good Rom Com starring Craig Ferguson the former host of his eponymous late night show & the late Regis's original cohost the spunky Kathie Lee Gifford.

If you are familiar with either lead you know their brand of comedy is often directed at making themselves the proverbial self effacing butt of most of their jokes. There are accents too, Craig mumbles sometimes.

Kathie Lee Gifford acting?
jomalley5220 February 2021
Trite story. Craig Ferguson is better than this and is the high point of the movie. Katie Lee is not an actor and proves it in this movie. She speaks like a cartoon character. Just awful. 3 stars for the beautiful scenery.

When the actors are having fun and enjoying themselves it is a joy to watch.
captronray2 October 2020
What a great location for this movie it added to the obvious fun they were having. I enjoyed watching Then Came You. The comfort they showed acting in these rolls that Gifford wrote was really well played.

Cute romcom, good performances, gorgeous Scotland!
jkt200628 February 2021
The scenery in the Scotland countryside where it's shot is beautiful. The actors are in their element and the dialogues are really funny. All in all a good fun movie for an evening!

I actually feel badly about this review but...
lisainstyle24 March 2021
...I have to be honest, so here we go. The best part of the movie is the castle and the scenery. It is Scotland so it is beautiful and breathtaking and the castle is perfection, and I've seen quite a few. The second best part is Craig Ferguson. He is gorgeous and funny and he is delightful in everything he does. Ford Kiernan is great, although he doesn't really get a proper chance to shine in this movie. Here is the hard part. Kathie Lee Gifford was absolutely awful. I mean bad. I used to watch 'Regis & Kathie Lee' and loved it, but it was like she walked off that stage and right into this movie, as herself, not an actress. I feel bad because I believe that she is a lovely person in real life, and strives to bring joy wherever she is, but it doesn't mean that she can act. It was truly painful to watch most of the time, but the scenery made it worth most of the pain. She almost wrecked the entire thing. It's a nice but very Hallmark-y movie. Unless you adore those silly movies, then you probably won't like this one. Very American and not enough Scottish for me. Sorry Kathie Lee.

Somewhat predictable but Ferguson's style makes is special.
rush_263 October 2020
This is a romantic comedy that is somewhat predictable and possibly inspired by Kathie Lee's real life. The score is original and the screenplay is funny, with both being created by Kathie Lee (which is impressive; I didn't know she had that talent). Ferguson's stand up comedy style plays well in this mostly light-hearted film that navigates the death of a partner and moving on. There a few twists that happen quickly and keep things interesting. Watch this if you're looking for a fun, feel-good, makes-you-smile-before-you-know-it movie.

Waste of time
snbgooch9 March 2021
I wanted to like the movie, but it was predictable with terrible acting. Towards the beginning my daughter said she thought the leading lady must have written the movie and she was right! Like others have said, it seems like a vanity project for Kathy Lee. I also noticed the couple only kissed once at the very end and it was just a long-held peck. There was absolutely no chemistry between the actors. Don't waste your time.

Not an Oscar movie, but humorous, charming, and thought-provoking.

Lots of little surprises, fun things, serious things. We really enjoyed it! Perhaps it more appreciated by older, every-day kind of people. But it does have some wisdom, some love, some strength. And the creativity in it is a real heart-warmer!

Dire. The only saving grace is the scenery.
patriciaedwards-1137329 December 2020
This film was such a huge disappointment. It seems like a vanity project for Kathy Lee Gifford. The script (which she wrote) is weak and we hear over and over how "attractive" she is. It becomes boring. She also flashes her legs unnecessarily (it just seems like she's decided they're gorgeous so she needs to show them). I loved the scenery and Awd's Inn but otherwise this is a complete dud.

Watch it ! Definately deserves more than 5.5 rating.
irishizan4 October 2020
I was a fan of Craig Ferguson when he had The Late Late Show. So yes be warned the dialogue has some sexual innuendo jokes. But the banter between him & Kathy Lee Gifford is great fun. Dont let her perkiness from her daytime talk show deter you from seeing this. They work well together & I really liked seeing a romantic comedy involving a mature couple & thinking about whats been just "enough" in life. I'd say the main charachter is the Scottish scenery ! Filmed at Ardkinglas Estate & around Cairndow in the Argylle/Bute area of Scottish Highlands. Its beautiful. (This film is absolutely nothing like current Hollywood movies with aging actors like Diane Keaton or Robert Deniro, and thats a good thing !!)

And I am bored. Comedy? Nope. K L Gifford was Regis sidekick on a long-running trasy daily show. I recall she was quite the homophobe. Anyways this is too trying to enjoy. But glad to see many good reviews, so go for it.

Love for mature people

I appreciate the story that is different from the current rom cons with 20-30 year old people.

I absolutely love the cinematography that is vibrant.

Awful
emiliep-3385324 February 2021
I felt to listen to a light and romantic film. The film is 1h30. You feel more like it's a good 2h. Almost non-existent history, the two main actors do not have any chemistry. The main actress is really not a good actress and her character is getting on our nerves. I do not recommend.

lorimertz-9007928 October 2020
A nice old fashioned love story. Beautiful scenery and music. Kathie Lee and Craig have such great chemistry. It was nice to see an older couple finding love again later in life. We need more movies like this for the 55 and over crowd.

Nothing special but decent enough for older couples

It's not overly hilarious or well done. But it has nice scenery, some light moments and singing. Overall enjoyable if you are over the age of 50+ I think you'd enjoy this.

Dreadful rom com that is neither romantic or funny
kikiclogwyni15 February 2021
The screenplay for this film was written by Kathie Lee Gifford and she stars as the female lead. That fact alone should have warned me off, but I love Craig Ferguson so I watched it anyway. KLG has written something that is self-indulgent in the extreme, giving herself a role of a woman show is supposed to be funny (she isn't), sexy (she isn't) and warm (she isn't) who wins out over Elizabeth Hurley! Yeah, right! It all makes for a thoroughly unbelievable love story that is at times positively excruciating - the cutsie black and white homage to the silent era (he is always complaining that she talks too much) is an attempt to be clever and coy but actually falls flatter than the house that narrowly misses Buster Keaton in Steamboat Bill Jr. This could have been an adorable story about two widows finding love at a later stage of their lives but, because KLG is trying to defy the ageing process, it fails remarkably and ends up just being weird and wholly unbelievable. Nice scenery though.

Craig Ferguson and his friend Ford were entertaining and sweet. Scotland, if course, was the star of the movie. The castle and the Highlands are breathtaking.
