To say that the early results for "Joker: Folie a Deux" weren't exactly what everyone at Warner Bros. had in mind would be a polite understatement. The high-profile sequel from director Todd Phillips has been met with what might be best described as disdain from many critics and audiences thus far. Its prospects are not great, particularly in light of the sequel's terrible opening weekend at the box office. Some of the only good news here in the early going is that DC Studios won't have to wear this as a stain on its reputation.
Those who saw "Joker 2" in theaters over the weekend might have noticed that the new DC Studios logo didn't appear in the film's credits, either before or after the film itself. The division was launched in 2022, with "Guardians of the Galaxy" director James Gunn and producer Peter Safran jointly running the operation. The idea...

One of several "Star Wars" movies currently in development at Lucasfilm just took a major step forward. Writer Beau Willimon is now set to co-write director James Mangold's upcoming adventure in a galaxy far, far away. Willimon will pen the script alongside Mangold for what is tentatively titled "Dawn of the Jedi", which was first announced last year during Star Wars Celebration.
The news comes to us from The Hollywood Reporter. Willimon is perhaps best known for creating Netflix's "House of Cards." However, "Star Wars" fans will know him best as one of the writers of "Andor," the much-acclaimed Disney+ series about Cassian Andor. Most notably, he penned the episode "One Way Out," which is widely considered to be one of the best episodes of television in the history of the franchise. Willimon was nominated for an Emmy for his work on the episode. Now, he's getting the chance to tackle a movie.

Last week, Max finally released the trailer for their much-anticipated The Batman spin-off series, The Penguin, teeing up its fall release date. Overall, it looks highly reminiscent of Matt Reeves’ film, with the cinematography very much in the Grieg Fraser mode. But what else do we know about The Penguin? More than you may think.
The Penguin is set after The Batman.
The plot of The Penguin is set to follow the title character, once again portrayed by Colin Farrell, as he rises through the ranks of the Gotham City criminal underworld. After the events of The Batman and the flooding of Gotham, including the death of Carmine Falcone, Cobblepot desperately wants to fill the power vacuum. Colin Farrell has also indicated that the film will serve as an origin story for the Penguin, something we have seen twice on screen before in Tim Burton’s Batman Returns, played by Danny DeVito.

It’s been almost twenty years, but there’s a chance we might see Keanu Reeves reprising his role as John Constantine on the big screen! In November 2012, filmmaker Guillermo del Toro struck a deal to make a Justice League Dark movie featuring DC Comics’ supernatural characters, including John Constantine. In November 2020, actor Peter Stormare hinted at a sequel possibly being in progress through an Instagram post. However, neither Warner Bros. nor Reeves themselves confirmed this at the time.
Then, in 2023, Francis Lawrence mentioned that he and Keanu Reeves were brainstorming ideas for the sequel, but every time they came close to something solid, the management at DC studio would undergo changes.
“But luckily, we managed to wrangle some control and started working on some ideas for Constantine 2, which we’re really excited about. It’s still the very beginning, as the strike put it on hold for a little bit.

With cameras rolling on James Gunn’s Superman, the director took to social media to share a special moment and show off a pretty cool gift from people tied directly to the legacy of the character.
James Gunn posted a photo of himself with the grandsons of Jerry Siegel – the famed co-creator (along with Joe Shuster) of Superman – who gifted him an edition of Action Comics #1, where the Man of Steel was first introduced. “A gift from Jerry Siegel’s grandsons Michael and James Larson – a reprint of the first issue of Action Comics signed by Jerry. It’s been great having Mike and Jim around keeping Jerry’s spirit alive in the birth of the Dcu! Here we all were on the day of the cast read through.” That’s a nice gesture from the fellas and shows that there is faith within the family for the project and future of DC.

Earlier this month, it was announced that Platinum Dunes, the production company headed up by Michael Bay and Bradley Fuller, are teaming up with director Jonathan Liebesman – who they previously worked with on the Texas Chainsaw Massacre prequel The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning and their 2014 version of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles – to make a werewolf movie called Wolf Night. Now Deadline reports that Wolf Night has found a home at Sony’s Screen Gems.
Michael Bitar is overseeing the project for Screen Gems, while Alex Ginno does the same for Platinum Dunes.
Screen Gems has put out a whole lot of horror movies over the years, with titles including Don’t Breathe, Resident Evil, Underworld, Deliver Us from Evil, The Grudge, Carrie, The Stepfather, Prom Night, The Pope’s Exorcist, Insidious: The Red Door, and the upcoming Tarot. They recently secured a first-look deal with Gary Dauberman, who worked on the...

Earlier this month, word came out that James Gunn and Peter Safran, the co-heads of Warner Bros.' DC Studios, have hired screenwriter Ana Nogueira to pen the script for a live-action Teen Titans film that will be set within their planned interconnected DC Universe of film, television, and video games. This experiment kicks off with an animated series called "Creature Commandos" sometime in 2024, but begins in earnest with James Gunn's newly-retitled "Superman" live-action feature film in the summer of 2025.
This "Teen Titans" film will likely follow the exploits of young heroes like Robin, Beast Boy, Cyborg, Raven, and Starfire, and whether or not it falls into Gunn and Safran's planned first chapter of the Dcu -- a collection of films and shows that fall under an umbrella they've titled "Gods and Monsters" -- remains to be seen. Gunn and Safran took charge of what used to be called Dceu, renaming it as Dcu. Over a year ago, they unveiled their plans for ‘Chapter 1: Gods & Monsters’. By January 2023, the DC cinematic universe was described as undergoing a significant but not total overhaul, planning a multi-year storyline.
James Gunn and Peter Safran revealed the initial projects of this new lineup on January 31. They shared details about the writers behind the overarching story: Drew Goddard, Jeremy Slater, Christina Hodson (who wrote ‘The Flash’), Christal Henry, and comic book writer Tom King. The plan involved breaking down the stories into chapters, starting with ‘Gods and Monsters.’ This chapter included five films: ‘Superman’ (2025), ‘The Authority,’ ‘The Brave and the Bold,’ ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow,’ and ‘Swamp Thing.’
Additionally, five television series were part of this initial phase: ‘Creature Commandos,’ ‘Waller,’ ‘Lanterns,’ ‘Paradise Lost,’ and ‘Booster Gold.’ The aim was to blend...

DC Studios is adding to its newly rebooted cinematic universe with a live-action film adaptation of “Teen Titans,” tapping screenwriter Ana Nogueira to pen the feature.
The news comes only four months after Nogueria was reported to be writing “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” for Warner Bros. Discovery’s comic book adaptation division. An actor and playwright, Nogueira has been involved with DC for several years now, having been originally tapped by the previous regime to write a “Supergirl” movie that would’ve seen Sasha Calle reprise the character after debuting in last summer’s “The Flash.” That project was scrapped after James Gunn and Peter Safran took on leadership roles, setting plans for a rebooted continuity of on-screen DC Comics adaptations. But the pair have maintained a relationship with Nogueira, which is further growing with “Titans.”

Do you really, do you really wanna taste it? Yes, we do! But where will that taste — that is, season two of Peacemaker — land in the DC Universe timeline? That was one of the biggest questions when it was announced that the Dcu would be replacing the Dceu. But James Gunn has stepped in to clear up any confusion…even if it still might be a little unclear just how it will all eventually come together.
James Gunn took to Threads — as he has grown quite fond of — to address where season two of Peacemaker sits in the evolving DC Universe, writing that it “will take place after the events in Superman.” It’s absolutely also worth noting that Gunn said that season one — which was released in 2022 and so part of the Dceu — is not canon in the Dcu. Got it? Good, moving on!

With the debut of ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom,’ the Dceu gracefully bows out, paving the way for Gunn’s and Safran’s Dcu to take the reins. For the past year, it’s been clear that the Dcu will emulate the successful structure of the MCU, with planned phases or “chapters.” The inaugural chapter, ‘Gods & Monsters,’ was announced, with ‘Creature Commandos’ leading the charge. However, Gunn has revealed that ‘Superman: Legacy’ will serve as the unofficial launch of this new era.
One significant transition involves ‘Peacemaker,’ shifting from the Dceu to the freshly established Dcu. Gunn has assured fans that ‘Peacemaker’ Season 2, already in the works, will seamlessly integrate into the Dcu canon, promising a smooth transition and clarity for viewers.

Some are even offering advice, as Jesse Eisenberg has done for the next Lex Luthor, Nicholas Hoult – and it might be about the best wisdom he can instill: “Don’t watch me!”
Both Eisenberg and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice – wherein the actor played the Man of Steel’s arch nemesis – were heavily criticized upon release. Eisenberg in particular was blasted for going over-the-top and drawing too closely to Heath Ledger’s turn as The Joker. Still, despite this, Eisenberg still holds Lex Luthor close, saying at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, “Whenever you play a role you feel connected to it…There’s no way around it. Being set around Halloween, Scream VI was packed with immediately recognizable horror costumes. Jason Voorhees. Freddy Krueger. Michael Myers. Pinhead. Not to mention Ghostface. They were all in there. But during a party scene, one of the characters is wearing a costume you might not recognize. It’s a knight’s suit of armor, but made out of cardboard. That’s the same costume the protagonist in the 2007 horror comedy Murder Party (watch it Here) wears. If you didn’t recognize it, then we have to tell you all about Murder Party – because it’s the Best Horror Movie You Never Saw.
Murder Party was the feature directorial debut of Jeremy Saulnier, who has gone on to direct films like the revenge thriller Blue Ruin, the neo-Nazi horror film Green Room, and the mystery thriller Hold the Dark, as well as episodes of True Detective season 3. Saulnier also wrote the screenplay for the film.

Beverly Hills, 90210 actor Ian Ziering has opened up about being swarmed by a gang of mini bikers while driving with his daughter down Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles on New Year’s Eve.
“Yesterday, I experienced an alarming incident involving a group of individuals on mini bikes. While stuck in traffic, my car was approached aggressively by one of these riders leading to an unsettling confrontation,” Ziering wrote on his Instagram page Monday.
“In an attempt to assess any damage I exited my car. This action, unfortunately, escalated into a physical altercation, which I navigated to protect myself,” he added. Ziering said he and his child emerged from the incident unharmed.
But YouTube footage of the confrontation indicated the actor having to fight off multiple bikers before reaching safety. Ziering for a decade starred as Steve Sanders on Beverly Hills, 90210 before reinventing himself as the star of the Sharknado movies,...

What was once touted as a brave, new era of streaming is starting to feel ... a little stale and familiar these days. Hot on the heels of Paramount's bizarre choice to rebrand the prestige cable network Showtime as Paramount+ with Showtime, likely made in a sweaty attempt to goose subscription numbers for a fledgling streaming service, yet another questionable decision from a major studio has come down from the highest levels. And this time, it involves sending brand-name DC movies to another streaming service.
According to a new report by Variety, Warner Bros. Discovery and Fox-owned Tubi have reached an agreement to send several DC movies and shows to the ad-supported streaming service for the new year. This means that major titles such as "The Batman," both "Wonder Woman" movies, "Aquaman," "Black Adam," "Birds of Prey," and even 2011's "Green Lantern" will join series like "Batwoman," "Gotham," and "Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman...

‘The Mist’ 4K Ultra HD Review – There’s a Reason We’re Still Talking About This Movie 16 Years Later
Stephen King adaptations have always been hit and miss. Before Mike Flanagan came along, there was one filmmaker who could always be trusted with King’s material: Frank Darabont, whose first foray into filmmaking was a short adaptation of “The Woman in the Room.” After making a name for himself as a screenwriter with the likes of A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors and The Blob, Darabont made his feature directorial debut with 1994’s The Shawshank Redemption and followed it up with The Green Mile in 1999.
His thus-far final King adaptation came in 2007 with The Mist, which finds a group of locals trapped in a grocery store while an ominous fog shrouding mysterious secrets envelopes their quaint Maine town. A microcosm of any community, the supermarket is a canny setting for a contained thriller. The divisive mob mentality and pigheaded self-righteousness that manifests under pressure is even more poignant in a post-Trump world.

In the 2012 making-of documentary "The Nightmare Isn't Over: The Making of Halloween II," producer Irwin Yablans admits it was he who pushed John Carpenter to make "Halloween II." Carpenter, as most horror nuts might be able to tell you, wasn't really interested in making a sequel to "Halloween," feeling that the story had reached an effective conclusion. In Murray Leeder's 2013 "Halloween" entry into the Devil's Advocates essay book series, Carpenter admitted that when he sat down to write "Halloween II," he had nothing but beer and a complete lack of ideas. Carpenter admits that he only decided that Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) should be the sister of the killer, Michael Myers, out of sheer desperation.
But Yablans insisted on a sequel because "Halloween" made so much money. Horror fans may know that "Halloween" was made for a tiny budget of about $300,000, but netted over $70 million at the box office.

Disney’s “Gargoyles” are coming back, TheWrap has learned.
The beloved animated series, which ran in syndication on weekday afternoons for three seasons from 1995 to 1997, is set to return, this time as a live-action series for Disney+ from James Wan’s Atomic Monster, writer Gary Dauberman (who wrote all three “Annabelle” movies) and Disney Branded Television. Dauberman is attached as writer, executive producer and showrunner on the new series.
“Gargoyles,” which centered on a band of monstrous warriors who, long ago, were encased in stone and cursed to stay that way unless they were lifted above the clouds, find themselves awoken in modern day Manhattan after a billionaire zealot placed them atop his latest towering skyscraper. (They remain stone during the day but become flesh-and-blood at night.) The Gargoyles then have to figure out what life in the contemporary world is like, while also attempting to rid New York City of some of its crime.

“Gargoyles” could finally be returning to television, with a live-action reboot series currently in the works at Disney+.

Dauberman would serve as writer and executive producer with Wan also executive producing. Disney Branded Television is the studio.
The current logline for the project reads: “Based on the cult classic Disney animated series, Goliath is the last of a heroic race of gargoyle warriors who once lived among mankind. Free from a centuries long curse that turned him into stone, Goliath struggles to solve the mystery of his past while watching over modern-day New York City alongside police detective Elisa Maza.”

Cult Disney animated series “Gargoyles” is getting resurrected in live-action series form, with two powerhouse horror names behind it. THR reports today that Gary Dauberman and James Wan’s Atomic Monster banner are teaming up to remake the 1990s cartoon as a live-action series for Disney+.
Dauberman will serve as writer, executive producer and showrunner for the series with Atomic Monster, the company run by Wan and Michael Clear, executive producing.
The original series premise “involved gargoyle statues moved from a castle in Scotland to modern day New York. Once in the Big Apple, the statues awaken from a thousand-year-old spell and take on the mantle of protecting the city, becoming, as the show’s narration gravely said, ‘stone by day, warriors by night.’”
The 90s animated series was produced by Walt Disney Television and centered on literal stone gargoyles that come to life and transform into protectors of NYC at night.

Whether you like it or not, it’s a fact that the Dceu reboot, officially called Dcu, is imminent. Dceu has suffered several box-office failures in a row, and it’s pretty likely that the same fate awaits the last two Dceu movies; ‘Blue Beetle’ and ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.’ With some many problems, Warner Bros. Discovery and DC Studios can only hope for a good start of Dcu to make all those Dceu problems worth something.
James Gunn has already announced the first five Dcu movies and five TV shows that will be set in Dcu’s Chapter 1, titled Gods and Monsters. James Gunn has found his hero: David Corenswet has officially been cast as Clark Kent/the Man of Steel in the upcoming Superman: Legacy. He’ll be joined by Rachel Brosnahan, who has been tapped to play Lois Lane in the DC Studios film. Gunn himself confirmed the news on Twitter, adding, “They are not only both incredible actors, but also wonderful people.”
The news comes after a months-long talent search. Both Corenswet and Brosnahan’s names have been at the top of the pile since May, while Nicholas Hoult and Tom Brittney were also vying for the cape and Emma Mackey and Phoebe Dynevor were up for The Daily Planet’s star reporter. Reports that Gunn and his co-dc Studios boss, Peter Safran, had screen-tested all six actors earlier this month signaled that a final decision was near.

James Mangold is bringing out the claws, as he is questioning the necessity of another Wolverine movie and wondering where it will stop.
In a new Variety profile, James Mangold suggested that Marvel and Disney are milking the Wolverine character for all he’s worth. “I can’t say that there’s a part of me that doesn’t wish that we’d let it be…But there was always going to be another Wolverine. There could be a baby Wolverine and a cartoon Wolverine. As much liquid as they can squeeze out of that rag, they’re going to try to.” He added, “I don’t measure my success on a movie like Logan with whether we ended the conversation. James Gunn has been one of the most prolific comic book filmmakers of the 21st century, but even he understands why people get bored of the genre.
In a new appearance on the “Inside of You” podcast, the newly minted DC Studios co-ceo explained how he hopes to avoid the franchise fatigue that has led to waning public interest in some superhero properties.
“We’re going to be very careful with the product that we put out and making sure everything is as good as it can possibly be,” Gunn said.
Gunn offered his diagnosis for what he sees as a decline in superhero movie quality, explaining that he thinks studios often push ahead with sequels and reboots before finding the narrative justification for the films.

It’s been over six years since we watched ‘Logan’ in theaters. Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine trilogy started in 2009 with one ultimate failure called ‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine,’ the 2013 sequel ‘The Wolverine’ was better received, but the trilogy concluded in the best way possible with 2017’s ‘Logan,’ which turned out to be arguably one of the greatest superhero movies ever made.
James Mangold, who directed ‘The Wolverine’ and ‘Logan,’ launched his career into the stars with the latter. ‘Logan’ earned him his first Academy Award nomination (for Best Adapted Screenplay), and after that, he directed ‘Ford V Ferrari,’ a sports drama starring Christian Bale and Matt Damon, which was nominated for four Academy Awards, including Best Picture. Since then, Mangold directed the fifth installment of the Indiana Jones franchise, and his next two projects are both set in blockbusters franchises; an untitled ‘Star Wars’ movie about the first Jedi and the...

The first chapter of the new DC Universe will officially get underway with Superman: Legacy, but the movie may also introduce a few other upcoming Dcu characters. In THR’s Heat Vision newsletter, the upcoming Superman: Legacy screen tests were mentioned, but there was an additional tidbit which stated that members of The Authority will also be appearing in the movie.
The THR report states that “roles such as Lex Luthor and members of supergroup The Authority, which are to be introduced in the movie, will be cast after.” Created by Warren Ellis and Bryan Hitch, The Authority are a group of heroes who take matters into their own hands to do what they believe is right. The original team consisted of Jenny Sparks, Jack Hawksmoor, Swift, Apollo, Midnighter, The Doctor, and The Engineer. It’s too early to say which members of the team might show up in Superman: Legacy...

The casting for “Superman: Legacy” is heating up as screen tests get underway Father’s Day weekend with Nicholas Hoult, Rachel Brosnahan, Phoebe Dynevor testing for Clark Kent and Lois Lane, according to insiders with knowledge of the projects
David Corenswet, Emma Mackey and Tom Brittney are also testing for the roles of Clark Kent and Lois Lane.
This isn’t Hoult’s first dash with a major superhero film — he was in the running to play Batman in Matt Reeves’ reboot, which eventually went to Robert Pattinson. Brosnahan, meanwhile, is just coming off the end of “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” so her schedule is freed up.

Last week, we shared the news that the 1985 creature feature Ghoulies (watch it Here) is getting a Blu-ray and 4K Uhd release, courtesy of Mvd Rewind Collection, on September 12th. Now we can confirm that Mvd Rewind Collection is also giving the 1988 sequel Ghoulies II (watch that one Here) a new Blu-ray and DVD release on that same date. The company is hoping to give the film a 4K Uhd release as well, but they can’t say for sure when that is going to happen.
Albert Band (the father of Full Moon founder Charles Band) directed Ghoulies II from a script by Charlie Dolan and Dennis Paoli, telling the following story: The Ghoulies are back and more devilish than ever, as they turn an unsuspecting carnival into a house of pandemonium in this wildly outrageous sequel to the original smash hit “Ghoulies”! “Satan’s Den” has received its final...
