Some of them wer'e good, and some of them we're terrible
maarten_wieringa731 July 2018
First of all Dom Irrera and Jeff Ross were great in this one. The best set of Ross in years. Irrera was very funny and harsh. Great set from him.

Nikki Glaser was ok, i liked her Rob Lowe set more. Martha Stewart was funnier at the Bieber roast but had a few good jokes here as well. Demi Moore's set was ok too. Not extremely funny but it was ok.

I didn't like the Cybil Sheperd, Dennis Rodman, Lil Rel Howery and Kevin Pollak sets. I didn't think they were funny or clever.

6/10, not the worst roast but certainly not the best.

mote it be

In March 2022 he announced his retirement and aphasia diagnosis.

In 2018 he faced the music and capped his career with this comedy roast.

Cathartic in its own right.

Ego is a fickle beast because it relies on the definition of others.

Some people rely on this for the entirety of their development.

I hope he's found peace, outside of the synthesis.

This is a fun production tho, very american yes but at least it got done.

When William Shatner did his roast, Leonard Nimoy expressed his distaste towards him feeling the need to.

There's no business like showbusiness.

Business is business..

Comedy Central Roasts are going downhill.
adush-glvacova4 August 2018
I gave three stars. One for Dom Irrera, one for Ed Norton, and one for Jeff Ross.

To start with - Joseph Gordon-Levitt was an absolute tragedy of a host. Compared to Seth McFarlane for example, he didn't come across as funny. He may be a good actor, but being a host of a roast means more than acting. His act (I even refure to call it his hosting style) was very unnatural and didn't feel funny at all.

Nikki Glaser was very weak. She was not bad at Rob Lowe roast, but here it felt like she wants to go the Amy Schumer way - talk about sex and private parts and pretend how funny such talk is.

Ed Norton was a nice surprise for me. Yes, he did talk about himself quite a bit. But that delivery had a storyline tied to his friendship with Bruce Willis and therefore justified. It felt very personal - which is how these roasts used to be years ago.

It's a shame that Comedy Central Roasts are now more about the star power and less about the actual comedy. People on the dais don't know each other, so it's quite predictable what will they say about each other (who did not expect North Korea being mentioned when Dennis Rodman was there?). With each next roast there are fewer actual comedians so I won't be surprised if next year we will have all A-list celebrity dais. Plus Jeff Ross.

A few nice moments can't save a failed and boring roast.
CountJonnie31 July 2018
The formula used to be about a group of friends who roast each other but also love each other and share some background story. That changed into a group of random people who frequently admit that they don't know why they're there.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt is the weakest host so far. Not every great actor can be funny, and his bits can't generate general interest. Dennis Rodman was obviously the "why the heck is HE there?" guest, and wow......did he bomb. Not a single funny moment, from a person who shouldn't even be there. I don't even blame Rodman, but the producers who asked him.

Of course Jeff Ross is funny, but no surprises and his star power can't save the below mediocre mess. Only Edward Norton was surpringly funny and entertaining. His jokes weren't predictable one liners, but a coherent story with a heart.

But besides Norton and Ross, this roast offers nothing. Most jokes were one liners and you could guess the predictable punch line at any moment. This means the time of the roast with a charismatic cast that really had fun being there, is probably over.

Joseph Gordon Levitt is to this show what James Franco was to Oscars
lovelywaz1 August 2018
Right from the start, Levitt sets the (unfunny) tone for the show. He can be summed up with just one line. "Joseph Gordon Levitt is to this show what James Franco was to the Oscars."

Most of the roasters are not funny at all. Everyone wonders why are they there and I was wondering why am I wasting my time watching this? They don't even know what a "roast" is, some mediocre random jokes is NOT roasting someone.

The hour is saved by Edward Norton who does a great job at roasting Willis in a very sarcastic way. His jab at MCU movies and specially The Incredible Hulk may rub some (a lot of) people the wrong way but it was part of roasting Bruce Willis and fit perfectly.

Jeff Ross, while being funnier than everyone else, was actually just OK when you think how bad everyone else besides Norton was. If everyone else sucks, then of course you gonna have some OK jokes look great too.

All in all, I gave it 5 / 10, thanks to Norton and Ross for saving this otherwise train wreck of a "roast" show. If you are watching on a streaming service, save your time to avoid clingiest jokes and moments and just skip to Edward Norton and Jeff Ross parts.

CC "Roasts" shouldn't be called roasts...
davidjdoyle-140-8923351 January 2020
This garbage isn't a roast... it's simply a bunch of people unrelated to the person being roasted who get together and try to be as insulting and raunchy as possible. They are neither funny or personable as they generally don't know the person being roasted beyond a cursory knowledge.

Comedy Central looks to shock the audience, to have people like Martha Stewart being raunchy or the of raunchy jokes. Why don't they understand that the person being roasted is the star...

True roasts were done by a group of friends and close colleagues who've known the person being roasted for years. The jokes and barbs were well thought out, personalized to their strengths and weaknesses. It's sad to see what passes for roasts nowadays.

Will have you Laughing!!
fhbdxshtt12 April 2023
Edward Norton was boring and spoke mainly about himself but that's to be expected from him lol he's a d!ck lol but I loved Bruce Willis at the end and Martha Stuart was funny and Dennis Rodman got all teary eyed, it was great!

Demi Moore did a good job too! The only bad part would be the extreme raunchy but by the First Lady "comedian" who looked like. Owen Wilson. ... she could've stayed off stage . But this is super awesome to see Bruce Willis laughing with friends and family. I always have and always will be a fan of his Movies and character. Thank you for being a part of this roast, you will always be awesome to me !!!

More like a light grilling.

Very poor panel, all being to nice to a man known for his bad attitude. You couldn't help but feel Willis pre read and ok'd all the jokes.

Too Many Pulled Punches
coltsfan1828831 July 2018
I used to love the Comedy Central Roasts, would stay up late to watch them growing up. Having mean-spirited comedians like Anthony Jeselnik and Greg Giraldo worked for what the Roasts were trying to do but lately it's become "get the Roastee to have their friends and a few random comics" on and you can tell nothing feels organic. Half these roasters bombed and you can tell the PC Police were in the back of all their minds. Jeff Ross killed it as usual but other than that, I'd say this ranks among one of the weaker Roasts. Go back to the basics and get established comic talents, or get a true A-list celeb to center on. Otherwise maybe let these Roasts die...hard.

Washed up panel
Jsin_731 July 2018
Warning: Spoilers
I'm giving 3 stars simply for Jeff Ross and 1 for Demi Moore showing up. I'll be honest, I would've never imagined Ed Norton sitting in a panel of roasters on comedy central. It's just not him, even though he did start by saying that he was slumming it there for Bruce Willis. You'd think that roasting an A lister would a lot more fun, but jokes just did not land. Joseph Gordon-Levitt was simply out of place and uncharismatic, Dennis Rodman sat there the entire time mumbling to himself and eventually struggled to place his mic and then we struggled to make sense of what he was trying to say. An unfunny panel of washed up celebs and a bunch of nobodies, barring a few, to think if they were going to roast an A lister, they could've atleast had better comedians and people close to him in some sense. Martha Stewart was funny in bits and sadly that's all there is to it. I have no idea what Lil Rel Howery was doing up there or why he was there in the first place. Yeah they start off with the usual "why am I here" but then you signed off on it. In between a few jabs and his awkward laugh after every joke that didnt land, probably because he couldnt read off his crumpled page, he was just awful to watch. Dom Irrera was good. He was bitter, he was angry, he used the N word, but if there was someone funny after Jeff Ross, it was Dom. It all ended with Bruce Willis trying to act like "the man" with those awkward gestures and lines that he just quickly went through and his little harmonica session. Sadly none of it was good enough to save a disaster of Roast that he shouldn't have agreed to in the first place.

I've seen a lot better roasts by Comedy Central. This, though, is one they'd want to forget. And really fast.

Man, I feel like Bruce Willis deserved way better
backup-5036211 March 2019
The roaster was terrible. Who the F is Nikki Glaser? The first thing she said was "I'm hot" so I figured her next jokes would be hilarious too but they weren't.

How come the Charlie Sheen roast or the Bieber roast were so great but this one was a snooze fest? Why were there so many unfunny people there? I like Rodman but he's not a comic, nor are those other actors and nobodies... In fact Rodman is a sensitive soul I don't believe should've been there taking those low effort insults at all.

Just terrible. I cringed off my seat watching the Nikki woman and what followed wasn't miles ahead either.

Bruice deserved a better roaster.
