Thai horror comedy done right...
paul_haakonsen23 January 2021
I had the chance to sit down and watch the 2019 Thai horror comedy titled "Pee Nak". And granted, I hadn't even heard about the movie before now in 2021 as I sat down to watch it. But it being a horror comedy from the Thai cinema, then chances were high that the movie would be an enjoyable one.

And it was.

"Pee Nak" from writer Kimhant Kanjanasomjai and director Phontharis Chotkijsadarsopon manages to combine horror and comedy in a very enjoyable and entertaining manner; something that the Thai cinema is rather excellent at doing. So if you enjoy the Thai horror comedy genre, then you should definitely take the time to sit down and watch "Pee Nak".

The storyline is good, mixing horror and comedy well into the formula. And I quickly got submerged into the storyline, and I took a liking to the characters in the storyline from the very beginning. There are heaps of funny moments throughout the movie, which had me laughing.

Now, I will say that the first and final thirds of the movie was heavy on comedy, whereas the middle part of the movie was more heavy on the horror aspects. So expect a change in pace throughout the course of the movie.

The special effects in "Pee Nak" were good, and they definitely added an enjoyable element to the movie.

All in all, "Pee Nak" is a very enjoyable and watchable movie. I am rating it a well-deserved six out of ten stars. It is more certainly worth taking the time to sit down and watch.

Too predictable and noisy
eimapunye17 March 2019
I have expected this movie would be suspensed like nang nak or long khong even though it's horror comedy. How ever it got too much predictable plot, lame sense of humour and noisy.

Boring, predictable and just annoying.
wraptile3 March 2019
There are few great jokes that are complete ruined by constantly yelling and just in general obnoxious characters.

Wanted to leave the movie but I honestly fell asleep.

Don't waste your time

I actually signed up just to post an honest review of this terrible movie.

Poor characters, acting, plot, low brow humor, it was a torture sitting through this film. Within 5 minutes from the start I was already aware that this would be a very bad film and was trying to leave the cinema.

Don't get me wrong, I think some Thai horror comedy films were done tastefully, especially those from GTH, but this is a truly shockingly bad film. Nobody in the cinema laughed at all. Also the sound effects were unnecessary and annoying. The plot was so bad and the whole thing was just awkward to watch. I sat through the entire movie and felt really upset at how misleading the marketing narrative was.

Horrible acting and plot, wow.

Should be free on television screens, not worth the money
non_promer23 February 2020
The movie is composed of scenes of 2 gay hornily shouting and senseless dramatic arguments and fights in order to prolong the movie. I do not feel that the ghost Pee Nak is the center of the story at all.

This movie is as good as Thai dramas on free television.

Three Young Men Seeking Ordination at a Haunted Temple
Uriah433 April 2021
Having promised to become an ordained monk if he should happen to win the lottery, a young gay man by the name of "Balloon" (Tar Atiwat Saengtien) boards a bus with two of his friends which will take him to a temple in a remote part of the country so that he can keep his end of the bargain. It's at this time that they notice another young man by the name of "Nhong" (Paisarnkulwong Vachiravit) who also seeks to become ordained but for entirely different reasons. As it so happens, his girlfriend had just broken up with him at the same time he was fired from his job and as a result he is hoping to end his string of bad karma. In any case, Balloon and his two friends are so excited to see Nhong that they immediately break out into song and dance which indirectly causes the bus to crash-killing one of Balloon's friends. Yet rather than discouraging them from continuing on their journey this tragedy only reinforces their commitment so Nhong, Balloon and his friend "First" (Puwadon Vejvongsa) continue on their way to that same temple. What they don't know is that this temple has had a curse placed upon it by an angry ghost who has vowed to kill anyone who seeks to become ordained-and nobody has become a monk there since that time. Now rather than reveal any more I will just say that this movie started off well enough with some good comedy on the part of both Balloon and First. Unfortunately, the incessant personal drama between the two of them got more and more annoying as the film progressed and as a result I became less and less enthused with it. That being said, I got rather bored with it after the first 30 minutes or so and for that reason I have rated this picture accordingly.

In religious perspective, it made some sense.

Warning: Spoilers
Thai Buddhist ancestors robustly believe that all men must become monks. However, the Buddha never ever force people to do such thing. According to Hinduism influence, Thai Buddhism is too unorthodox to the pure Buddhism. Back to my point, all men should have their own decisions in regards to entering the monkhood, as well as Anathapindika. Thus, the film director did a great job so far.
