Kick the bloody ball!

Warning: Spoilers
I'll admit that I wasn't thrilled when Roiland and Harmon (And Mike Lazzo) trolled us fans with this very odd prank on a certain April Fools day (for a full hour in place of normal programming), but looking back on it now it was a brilliant misdirection to top off the already surprising season 3 premiere a year earlier.

I'll also admit that I watched each and every replay of Bushworld Adventures that night, and I quickly grew from hating it at 11:10 to absolutely loving it by the time the night ended. (I have since rewatched it dozens of times, On Demand)

Yes, the art and humor are way darker and beyond 'disturbed' compared to our beloved Rick and Morty status quo, but there is real skill involved in HOW bad it all is.

Director, Michael Cusack is all over the place on animation style and character design, with Rick frequently changing how many eyebrows he has or even, for some reason, sporting an earring and mohawk; or Morty equally going from hideous Picasso-esque cluster**** to adorable toddler. ("Yay, Morty, yay!"). Indeed, the characters stay on model ... just enough to make the whole thing convincing as a sort of Interdimensional Cable Australian edition. The voices in particular do feel authentic if taken through that new perspective lens.

The madcap pace of the adventure feels like it could feature in a real R&M episode, if set in a darker world than even Season 3. But as the nonsense piles up and we find out that the whole thing was a massive troll job, each scene gets funnier than the last. It serves as both an underwhelming parody of Australia, but also a brilliant reference to the abusive relationship between grandpa and grandson, if left unchecked. The randomness of this bizarre spin-off, and especially the offbeat dialogue and breakneck cuts, keeps things fresh even as several references reuse material from the actual show.

I would love to see more adventures set in this messed up alternate reality.

Adult Swim Fever Dream
isaacshyrock2 September 2021
In retrospect this has been a fond fever dream remembering this short, it feels very fitting for a property like Rick and Morty to have a weird adaptability with artist interpretation, and knowing plenty of Australian people their depiction of Australia is pretty much exactly what their culture is like, watching this still has me crying from laughter from the absurdity that this exists definitely worth the little over 10 minute watch.

ME GREEN CUUUBE

Ignore all the reviews that say this sucks, they've totally missed the point of the spin-off. It's not supposed to be deep, it's not supposed to make sense, it's just a funny little collaboration that's oozing with Aussie humor and references.

Considering how deep some episodes of the original RNM show can get and how clever some of the jokes are, this is a total reversal of expectations which makes it absolutely hilarious. It's a very unique experience and I love rewatching this special every now and then just for the sheer insanity of it.

Absolutely genius

This is one of those spin-offs that's so absurd that it becomes it's own thing entirely. And the thing it becomes is glorious. Teaming with references and jokes with a straight insane artstyle this gem of an joke episode finds its place on par with the actual shows amazing humor. Hats of to Michael Cusack for this absolute diamond in the rough. Who knew Rick and Morty in Australian could enhance it even further!

I'd also recommend to people who liked this to also watch the amazing show yolo crystal fantasy aswell as smiling friends. Two truly unique shows that are probably one of the best animated shows to be released since Rick and Morty.

Fun parody, especially in the middle

Warning: Spoilers
"Bushworld Adventures" is an 11-minute animated short film from 2018, so a really new work we got here and the writer and director is young American Michael Cusack, so this is an English-language film of course. The animation style fits in well with the approach to comedy, pretty dark humor, references about sexuality and death from start to finish. And Rick is absolutely hilarious in how he keeps going over the top all the time and Morty as the target of his attacks is fun to watch too. The "Get in the car" sequence early on was a big highlight, as good as later on the snake scene and everything that follows afterwards after they leave Morty's dad behind. The scene with the giant in the cave is slightly inferior, but still fun to watch. The ending at their target location was a bit underwhelming I felt. Shame the film does not end as well as it started and was for the most part. Anyway, I am not too big on Rick and Morty from what I have seen so far, even if it wasn't too much, but this spoof we got here entertained me very well, so I definitely give it a thumbs-up, without hesitation actually as it's closer to a very good rating for me than to a mediocre/weak rating. Go see it. If they actually decide to turn this into a series, then I think I will be watching at some point, but still I have a feeling it could become difficult to keep up the at times very high comedy level delivered in here for a recurring series. In any case, check this one out. Unless you are easily offended, you will not regret it.

A bad Rick and Morty parody.

I like the terrible art and that the characters look completely different every time you see them but this is not funny. The only funny thing is the very last thing Rick says.

Could have been something.

The general idea and art style is pretty, it's a shame it was poorly executed and the humor was repetitive crap.

A real waste of potential.
