A bold script that lacked execution.

I certainly appreciate the bold choices done with the character. Whether it was my job or not to empathize with Maverick I'd say I did not feel any empathy behind his outrageous actions. Everytime Maverick got angry I felt like I was watching an insane man lose it (very cringe and funny at times). I understand when filmmakers introduce a detestable character as the protagonist there usually is an element of charm into the performance. Even when they do detestable things there is a charm to them you can't just help yourself from looking away (ie Robert Deniro in Taxi Driver, Adam Sandler in Uncut Gems, Robert Pattinson in Good Time). I dont feel this character achieved this on his performance. He was just dislikable and boring at times. The cinematography while not great there were certain shots that stood out next to others. The rugged handheld look drawed me more into this world however I do think it was to the film's detriment at times. Shooting an entire film this way has its consequences and this film certainly shows this. I was not turned off by the onscreen relationship Maverick had with his daughter but I definitely hated him more for doing so. So manupulative and mischievous at times (and again) not in a charismatic way. I respect the Director and writer for creating this character; I just felt like the film lacks on its execution.

I know some strange things happen in life and your mind is not the same if you've been locked up for 20+ years but at the end of the day, your daughter is still your daughter!!!
