A mesmerizing plot aided with top notch acting.
Fella_shibby28 June 2019
Warning: Spoilers
A narcotics officer Kim is contacted by a convicted murderer Kang from prison n confesses murdering six other people. He claims that the homicide officers fabricated evidence against him to have him imprisoned. Kim agrees to find the real evidence in exchange for information on the remaining six bodies. Kim uncovers the actual evidence with Kang's information, proving the homicide detectives fabricated his case. As a result Kang's sentence is reduced.

Kim's mentor advises Kim to stop pursuing Kang's case since the murderer is trying to make himself appear innocent in other crimes to overturn the sentencing for the crime he is serving time for at present.

Fellas looking for a fast paced thriller will be disappointed as this film is more like an investigative drama aided by top notch acting n direction. Some may find the climax very convenient but the entire plot is very mesmerizing. Fans of David Fincher's Zodiac will definitely enjoy this.

Nostalgic Detective & Killers Movies from South Korea
riviuriviu26 November 2018
Claimed as a film based on a true story about a detective who investigates the case of a killer in the city of Busan, South Korea.

Without further ado, from the start the film immediately directs us to a series of murder cases that have been committed by the killer based on his confession to the detective. Cunningly, the killer tried to play with the detective with confusing statements. Until a bright spot where his actions can be proven by the police and increase the weight of the murderer's punishment.

Typical of South Korean films where police and killers are always in touch. Even though we rarely find iconic films like Memories of Murder (2003) and The Chaser (2008), but 'Dark Figure of Crime' can provide an interesting spectacle. Moreover, the film stars South Korean veteran Kim Yoon-seok (The Chaser, The Yellow Sea, Hwayi: The Monster Boy, Fog Sea and other famous titles) with the opposite of a rising actor Ju Ji-hoon.

a horrifying yet beautiful thriller
aminifatimaaa24 March 2019
Excellent crime thriller about a detective seeking further punishment of a convicted murderer who despite confessing to further crimes, uses legal loopholes and the statute of limitations, coupled with half truths and misinformation to evade justice. Kim Yoon-seok's performance was outstanding as usual and rising star Ju Ji-hoon was also very impressive, balancing his performance well. Based on a true story, strongly recommend.

esteelee-1328 June 2019
The film started fast, but as long as you catch up with the pace, it's very understandable. I would say the title need a bit more in order to compatible to the film, which I would expect completely different story line when I read the title. Overall, great film

1 hour 50 minutes of getting intrigued
chubbygirl-069301 February 2019
Warning: Spoilers
A movie doesn't have to be a thriller to be able to seduce its audience into sitting down and follow the story till the very end. This movie is one of those kinds.

From the beginning, it already tells you that this is not a typical criminal - thriller film. It is more than that. Dark Figure of Crime depicts a psychological battle between a detective and a prisoner who admitted to have murdered 7 people yet no body was ever found.

The characters are certainly very developed and well portrayed by the excellent actors. A persistent detective, who is determined to find the whereabouts and remains of the victims, against an intelligent, cunning killer who takes advantage of the loopholes in the law system to literally get away with murder and creates the game between the two of them. Moreover, such sophisticated characters are, fortunately, played by two very talented actors to successfully bring to the screen a beloved detective and a psychopathic yet well-mannered killer.

The story is well-developed not just because it is based on real events but also because it is in the hand by a dedicative director. Some shots are certainly beautiful and expensive, especially the last scene where the detective was on his own, continuing to find the bodies of other victims. It really shows how difficult and tiring the job can be, and at the same time, illustrates the fact that he's a loner in the quest of finding the missing

Sedately paced
Leofwine_draca9 January 2023
DARK FIGURE OF CRIME is a somewhat unremarkable true crime tale from South Korea, similar to MEMORIES OF MURDER but not on the same level. It involves Kim Yoon-seok (of stone-cold classics like THE CHASER and THE YELLOW SEA) as a detective reopening a cold case about a serial killer who claims to have murdered multiple other victims whose bodies have never been found. There are some flashbacks here but the majority is a cat-and-mouse psychological game between detective and killer, the latter played by the guy who was the crown prince in KINGDOM. Sedately paced but involving with it, this is a good watch for fans of the genre.

Good movie but easy to fall asleep
huynhcongkhanh1 February 2022
First time watching so sleepy so did not finish. Next time, I will watch it again with my family until the end of the movie. The content of the movie is good, worth watching, sometimes the plot is a bit fast and confusing, making it easy to fall asleep.

Without camshaken fighting and fast chasing scene, Dark Figure of Crime did more than enough to keep me on the edge.

What a great crime thriller movie yet again from South Korea. The suspense and mystery throughout the 1hr 50mins kept me glued to the screen on this one. The acting from the two leads was top notch and didn't disappoint from start to finish. If you love SK movies you'll love this one.

Dissapointed. I rate 5 stars just for a great acting
sfbigheadgf15 January 2019
Totally disappointed. The reconstructions are not as interesting and dramatic as I expected. The best thing from the movie is probably the good acting of the actors.

A movie which did so many wrong things in the right way.
chachareal8 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
A dark figure of crime clearly depicts the how personal feeling can really control a human. The film vaguely based on true story of a criminal who confessed to a detective about 8 other murders he committed but only the confession no other clues. The detective later finds that his confession aren't mostly true but matches the victims disappearance dates and places, the statue of limitations plays a major role in this movie as the story proceeds to show the hatefully nature of the criminal making r=the audience to hate him and striving for long term punishment's for him, towards the end it almost felt like the criminal is going to be free into the society due to his intelligent plays with the detective but gave us a sweet and sour ending. Depicting a true story into a movie without hurting the real audience whose life had major during those horrific events is really difficult but the story progression in this movie did a great work like mixing up the cases and focusing on detective's mental state and personal feelings rather than how horrific the incident was.
