Jessica is awesome....everyone else is not
sunex13 October 2019
Okay, so here's the deal.

This is a spinoff of the show Suits. That show was wicked good. It was quirky, light sometimes, funny sometimes, serious sometimes, and, with a few exceptions, was loaded with interesting characters from day one.

Pearson....is not.

It is loaded with stereotypes. You've got the stereotypical corrupt politician having the affair. The stereotypical female lawyer with a chip on her shoulder cause she's a woman and has to prove herself every time. The stereotypical Hispanic woman with the stereotypical Hispanic family. The stereotypical black woman raising her children solo cause no man around, oh, with a stereotypical supportive but largely clueless grandmother.

What made Jessica so completely awesome was that she was suave, cool, and ALWAYS was in control of everything. She was fearless cause she had the inside track on every situation. And they even took that away from her.

This show could be good. But they need to kill the meaningless unending stereotypes and try and get Jessica back on her A-game.

Right now, this show aint gonna make it. it'll die as soon as the "suits" viewers realize that this is as good as it's gonna get.

Hopefully, if it gets a second season, they'll dump most the cast and retool it into the really awesome show this could have been.

I'd prefer a spin off about Mike's life, it would be far more interesting with his cocky persona. Suits isn't continuing only because there isn't the bromance anymore.

I liked it
dskywalker016 August 2021
I was sceptical when I started this show, but I got super invested about half an hour in. It was the spin-off I didn't know I needed... Then it got cancelled. Jessica is such an interesting character and Gina Torres is so perfect, I think it deserved another season, at least to wrap up the cliffhangers. The characters in general were all very complex and the entire series was so beautifully produced, it's a real shame we'll never know what happens next.

Sooo boring...
Veritas9925 July 2019
Gina Torres is amazing.... I don't mind is derived from Suits, I was glad, thinking it will be the same style - interesting, smart dialogues, sparkling... But this one is so boring...so predictable...corruption in city administration...who wants to see 10 episodes about that???

I am sorry, I like very much Gina Torres, but if the 3-rd episode will be as dull as the first 2, I will stop seeing "Pearson". Can't they bring somehow "Mike" back, to make a kick-ass team with "Jessica "? Anywhere , but public administration...

Grease to the wheels of government
bkoganbing18 July 2019
I see that 10 episodes of the series Pearson have been ordered including the original one introducing us to the characters of which Gina Torres is the chief.

Torres is a carryover character from the series Suits and she has forsaken the world of law for the world of politics. She takes a job with the city administration in Chicago which even today is a byword for garden variety corruption. Of course those involved don't think of themselves as corrupt. Merely applying grease to the wheels of government to make it work.

No city problems exist in a vacuum everything is interrelated in some unexpected ways at time. But Torres as Jessica Pearson is a smart woman, all she has to do is learn the territory.

The introductory episodes give the viewer enough plot strands that makes one curious for more.

I liked the concept, hope Pearson succeeds.

Very classy woman who brings elegance.
djzisumbo-652-81129318 July 2019
Very classy woman who brings elegance to anything she touches. She's found morals which I feel she lost in suits. She's incredibly talented and the cast looks well put together.

First season is done
klouzal-wa20 September 2019
I like the characters. I like Jessica. But it's such a soap opera. After one whole season pretty much nothing actually happened. Sure some facts came out, we know more than we did.

Did anything get accomplished? I think not. The bad guy is still there. The homeless are homeless. The city attorney is leaving, but will she really leave?

The show is full of "What's going to happen next season?"

Another good show gone...
getitartist15 October 2021
I really enjoyed the first season. Thought it was better than Suits. So tired of networks canceling before a show gets its legs. Great actors. Good story line, characters. Second season would have been great!

Jessica Takes Her Rep To The Windy City
atlasmb2 August 2019
Gina Torres stars as Jessica Pearson, the savvy attorney who previously starred in "Suits" and now takes her talents to Chicago. There, she works for Mayor Bobby Golec (Morgan Spector) in a yet-to-be-defined capacity. With her smarts and a penchant for getting things done, we can expect her to bend some rules and step on some toes.

It's an odd premise, because Chicago has a long history of dirty politics and because she openly admits she dislikes her new boss.

For this series to work, Torres must demonstrate the same strength we have come to expect from Jessica (and also from Zoe, the warrior, in "Firefly"). The first three episodes have shown Jessica to be that and more. Now she has a family to interact with, allowing her to show more complexity as she must reconcile her public and personal personas.

Isabel Arraiza is Yoli Castillo, a city employee who is fired but seeks to find her place in the scheme of things. Simon Kassianides is Nick D'Amato, a tough guy who, similarly, could us some of Jessica's help in sorting out his complicated life. And Bethany Joy Lenz plays Keri Allen, the mayor's right-hand woman, who is threatened by Jessica's hiring. All three are excellent actors.

As the series begins, Jessica makes skeptical friends and collaborative enemies. The long-term direction of the plot is difficult to foresee. But by the second episode it earned my interest.

This show has no soul.
TheHandThatBleeds26 July 2019
This show is missing anything that grips me and makes me want to keep watching. There's not enough interesting character buildup, the interactions are flat, like everyone is just reading lines, and there are no zany or interesting characters that instantly make you like them or at least be interested in them (like Louis Litt). Big fail, sorry.

Needed a second seasonal
Advocate14 September 2023
Think show needed a second season. Sometimes, people put too much emphasis on some nielsen rating. How does that determine what makes a good show? I personally feel this show was excellent. It had a good storyline and it was a show that addressed something that is a critical issue for people. What is the point of having diversity on television if they don't speak to the issue that matters? The writers should make up and get to writing season two. The staff is great. Gina Torres and crew act great. This isn't a direct spin off of suits, it is nice to see some cameos from the original series. You won't be disappointed.

More realistic than suits.
passamazonassessments2 April 2021
It's a more serious show, no jokes, no fun times and mainly dramatic. Very different from suits and speaks more to reality.

Single black mother... Illegal latino's... Wealthy white conservatives...

The spinoff no one asked for
StarbucksBatman24 August 2019
Boring, unengaging, weightless, lacking uniqueness, unfortunately that's what mostly describes the series. It's just yet another legal drama without interesting characters.

There was a place for Jessica Pearson in Suits but contrary what internals thought there is no place for her in a standalone Pearson spinoff. Has the channel even made a focus group study?

I have a feeling it's going to be cancelled soon.

intriguing city hall drama
SnoopyStyle9 November 2019
It's a spinoff from Suits. After getting disbarred in New York, Jessica Pearson (Gina Torres) returns to her home town of Chicago. She does a deal with Mayor Bobby Novak to help her elderly aunt Lillian Cook. Lillian's daughter Angela wants no part of Jessica who becomes the mayor's new fixer despite her past suits against the city.

I'm a fan of Suits but I also see the franchise's flaws. This spinoff is intriguing in that it doesn't have the same flaws but I am still drawn to it in different ways. First off, there is no easy romance and it doesn't have the sexiness of Suits. It does have Gina Torres. It's a more gritty part of the spectrum. It does have the same overwrought gene but it doesn't overboard like its parent. I am slowly taken with a few of the characters. Initially, I didn't get Angela's hatred of Jessica but eventually their rivalry grew on me. With only ten episodes, it's understandable that the characters grow their personalities over time. In the end, the show has no more and doesn't get the chance to build up this world.

Hoping it picks up and really takes off...
dnbaeb19 July 2019
I am a true fan of Suits and Gina Torres' character, Jessica. Just trying to figure out in this first episode, who's who and how their lives are/or will be interwoven in this new series. Thus far, on the surface, it appears that Jessica isn't making new friends, but in true Jessica fashion, she's bold, making big moves, and doing things "Jessica" style.

Very interesting spinoff
dianamarinelli9 October 2019
I really don't get why it has a low rating it's actually one of the best spinoff I've ever seen. Jessica was my favourite character on suits and she delieveres here with iconic one liners. It has so many twists and gives you scandal and how to get away with murder vibes.

Great actors, interesting plot, all for nothing due to anti-white liberal preaching.
patville18 August 2019
I was really enjoying the show until the anti-white preaching started. Spoiled it for me. It's too bad, because the actors and the non-liberal writing is very good. I just don't intend to spend my time listening to a race of people being put down in virtually every episode.

Left leaning drama
tim-313155 September 2019
... has all the building blocks of a good series, if they would not only show one side and be politically opportunistic. Nothing wrong showing one side if you also show the other. If the writers do not know what the other side is, bless their hearts.

Waiting but the substance didn't come
Cilica31 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Another show about the same things, about the same type of people, about the same deals, the same enemies and the same selfishness. Really Pearson cannot go to visit her boyfriend...wow 'too much to do here'. I turned it off at episode 6. The major is the major because of a woman, then has sex with her, then back deals break up, fall down, 'oh there is a murder' and Pearson seems to put out all the fires where she can. Boring, same ol same ol NOTHING NEW HERE. I only like her wardrobe and that is because it suits her, not because I like her clothing. Her wardrobe is the only part that is original about the series.

good enough as for the first episode
hisham-220019 July 2019
The pilot was good enough speaking about the performance, characters, and the storyline even though its not that obvious, the only thing i didnt like is that the introduction of each character wasnt good and u might feel confused about it, looking forward to see more about Jessica's character.

Add some music damn it! (Directors please read..)
x_rui_x1 September 2019
The series is OK/watchable but the soundtrack is horrific! When you were watching Suits, often the music sets the tone of the flow of the episode. In this series, the music is either flat or downwards inclined.

Please add some cheerful music/deep sounds or something to raise the spirit. Otherwise this looks like a fruit of depression.

Boring spinoff
Jagel5 September 2019
Suits was carried by Mike Ross and Harvey Specter as a real law series, before it turned into a soap opera with no purpose. This is the same meaningless soap opera. What a waste a time.

This show might be interesting, if you got a fetish for female empowerment.

Love This Show!
jirvin_985 October 2019
I love this show! It's well acted by the entire ensemble and has very interesting plot twists. Gina Torres, who plays Pearson, is exceptionally good in her role! I enjoy the fact too that we get to see the multiple layers of her character.
