Bringing a stripped-down version of her Sos Tour to the grounds outside Dodger Stadium on Sunday night, Sza closed out Camp Flog Gnaw Carnival — the two-day music festival curated by Tyler, the Creator — with a stylish and soulful flourish.
The performance was a victory lap of sorts for the singer-songwriter born Solána Imani Rowel, her first since her nine Grammy award nominations — a record this year — were announced on Friday.
Pulling from her critical and commercial 2022 smash album Sos, her 2017 debut Ctrl and various other sources (her 2018 Black Panther soundtrack duet with Kendrick Lamar, “All the Stars,” plus covers of Dojo Cat’s “Kiss Me More” and Drake’s “Rich Baby Daddy”), Sza writhed in giddy delight, her voice as strong as ever. She even mounted a silver ball suspended in the air for her rendition of “The Weekend.”

Easily the most controversial release of the year thus far is The Idol. This was the brainchild of The Weekend’s Abel Makkonen Tesfaye. The synopsis for the Max series focuses on Jocelyn – played by Lily-Rose Depp – a pop star who’s looking to reclaim her top spot following a nervous breakdown. She begins a complex relationship with Tedros, a self-help guru and the head of a contemporary cult. Sam Levinson is no stranger to controversy. Levinson is also the creator of Euphoria – which is a hot topic that’s usually criticized for its abundance of sex and drugs. Still,...

As we get deeper into the summer, entertainment offerings are bound to start slimming – particularly in this pandemic era. Perhaps there’s no greater example of the oncoming drought than Amazon Prime’s list of new releases for July 2020.
Though the new options may be few and far between on Amazon this month, at least they pack a bit of a punch. In the case of Hanna season 2, that punch is quite literal. Esme Creed-Miles returns as the titular precocious super soldier. You can check out our review here. Beyond that, there are two intriguing Amazon original movies. The first is the Rosamund Pike-starring Radioactive and that arrives on July 24. Then there is the Dave Bautista film My Spy on July 26.
With HBO Max now on the scene, Amazon Prime is sure to lose some of its library titles. That can already be seen in the relatively sparse offerings for July.

Jurassic World: Dominion is the title of the 2021-scheduled third film in the revived blockbuster Jurassic Park franchise, intended as the conclusion to a trilogy consisting of 2015’s Jurassic World and 2018’s Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. The sequel swan song will showcase a shaken status quo after Fallen Kingdom‘s plot twist, in which the cloned dinosaurs were unleashed upon civilization, altering the existential balance of mankind (and the rest of the animal kingdom).
Seemingly mirroring Disney’s revived Star Wars Sequel Trilogy films, the Jurassic Sequel Trilogy will close things out with the director who helped foster the relaunch, Colin Trevorrow. He will work off a script that he helped develop with Derek Connolly, co-written by Emily Carmichael.
Dominion will, poetically enough, be a franchise-encompassing reunion with current stars Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard set to be joined by returning Jurassic Park stars Sam Neill, Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum,...

Rob Corddry, a Daily Show alum, Emmy-winner and star of CBS sitcom The Unicorn, will headline a joint Medscape and WebMD fundraiser this Thursday, April 16. The effort is in support of Project C.U.R.E, an international organization focused on providing face masks and other protective medical equipment to millions of healthcare workers.

Funny You Should Mask will run simultaneously on the WebMD and Medscape Facebook pages on April 16 beginning at 8 Pm Et. The show will feature Corddry and fellow comedians Dr. Ken Jeong, Eric Andre, Sasheer Zamata, Nicole Byer, and Kumail Nanjiani talking with doctors and nurses on the Covid-19 front lines about what they are experiencing and what healthcare workers need.
Conversations include a nurse working in an underserved community, two New York City transplant surgeons who have transformed their office into a Covid-19 positive facility, an emergency medicine doctor in Los Angeles who continues to work from home to support her staff and patients, an epidemiologist who is pushing for increased testing, and an emergency medicine doctor from Portland, Oregon caring for Covid-19 patients.
“There’s nothing funny about coronavirus, but that doesn’t mean a little levity won’t lift the sagging spirits of any healthcare professional who needs it,” said Corddry.
“As the largest news, clinical tools and continuing education resource for healthcare professionals around the world, Medscape seemed like a natural fit for the collaboration,” said Ivan Oransky, M.D., Medscape’s vice president of editorial.
Similarly, WebMD is the most popular site for consumers seeking information on health-related topics. Both sites have seen dramatic increases in engagement since the Covid-19 outbreak began.
“We were excited that Rob and his comedy buddies wanted to work with Medscape, particularly to support a charity focused on addressing the critical shortages in masks and other personal protective equipment (Ppe),” he said. “These are extraordinarily difficult times for healthcare workers, and bringing some laughter, and importantly support for the work that they do, is a great effort.”
“Besides, we’re not very funny,” said Oransky.
Project C.U.R.E, the world’s largest distributor of donated medical relief, including masks, gloves and Ppe is now devoting all its resources to support healthcare workers in the U.S.
“We have been working hard to take care of the brave women and men who are fighting the Covid-19 fight on the frontlines of our community,” said Douglas Jackson, PhD, Jd, President and CEO, Project C.U.R.E.
“To partner with WebMD/Medscape and Rob Corddry on this project is an incredible encouragement, both to the nurses and doctors that we are working to help and to the thousands of Project C.U.R.E. volunteers who are in the warehouses, driving the trucks and committed to winning the battle. The idea that we can do serious work and put a smile on the faces of these terrific people is really magical. It’s this type of thing that will get us through.”
All the proceeds from Funny You Should Mask will go to purchasing and distributing essential medical supplies to Us healthcare workers.

Comedian and actress Sasheer Zamata has juggled both mainstream television gigs (“Saturday Night Live”) and low-budget comedies. Zamata, who hosted IndieWire’s first-ever Consider This Fyc Brunch for 2019-2020 film awards season on Tuesday, has embraced opportunities to keep her audiences on edge.
The comedian’s standup material has grown edgier over the course of her decade-long career, and she said she found a purpose in speaking candidly about her realities as a black woman in the world.
“If they watch me perform, and, afterward, feel like they were uncomfortable, but also thought I was funny and coherent, and even educated them, then I think I did my job,” she said. “However, it’s for them to figure out why they are uncomfortable.”

Warning: Spoilers for The Weekend ahead.
There are some characters that viewers unabashedly adore for their bubbly energy and ability to bring a smile to any face with a clever word. Sasheer Zamata's Zadie is not that character. For most of comedy film The Weekend, Zadie is combative, acerbic, and selfish; as if her sole purpose is to make it 10 times harder to like her. But at the same time, her self-deprecating sense of humor, her chafing vulnerability, and painfully obvious need for love is also startlingly relatable.
As she juggles the affections of her ex-boyfriend Bradford (played by Tone Bell) and the handsome stranger staying at her mother's inn (Y'lan Noel's newly single Aubrey), her awkward stumble toward love made me realize that as much as I couldn't stand Zadie, I appreciated her. Because damn if she isn't one of the most realistic hot messes I've seen onscreen in a long time.

, as stark white-on-black title cards usher in a muted, clarinet-led jazz score of faintly mournful whimsy. Check. It continues: Our protagonist is a dry, lovelorn standup comic, inclined to drop references to Godard and Fellini in casual conversation, working out romantic issues against a backdrop of warm autumnal melancholy. Check, check, check. Yet if Meghie’s easy, amiable film could be seen as a tribute of sorts to the embattled auteur, it also works to pointedly show up his (and many of his peers’) blind spots. It’s all set in California, for one thing, but more importantly, it’s centered entirely on a quartet of African-American millennials — a demographic rarely called upon to carry this kind of generously talky, relationship-focused indie.
“I constantly talk like I’m the supporting actress in a romantic comedy,” says Zadie (Sasheer Zamata), the aforementioned Los Angeles comedienne, in a line that feels loaded in several ways.

"I wish someone would marry you, so I could quit worrying." Lionsgate has released the first official trailer for an indie romantic comedy titled The Weekend, the latest from up-and-coming Canadian filmmaker Stella Meghie. This premiered at the Toronto Film Festival last year, and also stopped by SXSW and AFI Fest. Sasheer Zamata plays Zadie, a stand-up comedian and, as she puts it, "extremely single." It has been three years since she split up with Bradford but they're still friends, so when Zadie invites him to her mother's bed and breakfast, he brings along his current girlfriend, Margo. As the weekend progresses, no one is spared from "Zadie's acerbic wit", but things get even wilder when Aubrey, a handsome stranger from Montreal, shows up. This also stars Tone Bell, DeWanda Wise, Kym Whitley, Y'lan Noel, and Josefina Landeros. Looks zany & fun, filled with brutally honest humor. Here's the first official...
