Narration for the show
leeboyt5 June 2019
I enjoyed the show. What I do not enjoy. Is the narration over and over of the same subject. Why do they feel the need to tell you the same thing at least five times in the same show? It gets very annoying. And I'm beginning to lose interest. We do not have to keep hearing over and over the same things.

I think people need to stop taking everything so seriously. Maybe if you want reality go back to watching honey boo boo.

Confused

I just can't anymore
Hackazit-114 June 2019
I made it to Season 2 episode 7. The stupidity is just gotten to be too much. The two main guys seem to have an IQ of 60. I could tell them that the secret order of the sky said the sky is purple and they'd be nodding and running to repeat it to everyone.

Nice show!
laurin6001 January 2019
Like the show! Just to be clear though, a sinking boxcar does not "explode"... they "implode". One would think the air needs to escape so it goes boom... but the opposite happens. Pressure "crushes" the airspace.

Repetitive junk, poor production
bustyasianescorts15 March 2018
From the producers of The Curse of Oak Island, it seems like the same production standards are carried over, repeating segments over and over again.

Far better than all the bad reviews would lead you to believe.
k_tomb30 May 2019
This show is very watchable, and entertaining, well filmed, and has interesting characters. Everyone knows stuff like this is based on trying to see if a myth or story can be backed up in reality. The adventure is great fun, I learned a lot of things I had not known before about the Civil war, and simply viewing all the great locations and buildings is a treasure of fun!!

Oak Island Wanabe - but missing most positive elements and includes all bad elements
lplisco27 March 2018
I have made it thru three episodes, but can't take it anymore. The show tries hard to be like Oak Island, but misses by a wide margin. Unfortunately, it continues all the annoying practices such as lots of repetition, "war room" meetings, grand speculation, and obsession with Knights Templar. In addition, it misses the boat on some of the redeeming value of Oak Island, such as interesting characters, history of the area, and use of other experts and parties to solve problems. Marty and Rick are interesting to watch in using management skills, and interpersonal skills in addressing issues that come up on Oak Island. Civil War Gold is the other extreme, with an an apparent control freak who wants to do everything himself - and thus is not very interesting from any standpoint. The historical topic was what interested me to watch, but I cannot overcome the other negatives to continue.

Hard to Take Seriously
dcollins-3075421 March 2018
I didn't make it thru the 1st episode. There's too much baiting the viewer with repetitive hype, not un common on the HC...who needs to be constantly reminded what and why they're watching a program? Hook someone with interesting content. And be real. This was a group of no nothings (no real academics or experts) going on hunches and convincing themselves they're on the right trail. Their decisions and evidence begger belief. They're ecstatic to find an old bolt under a farmer's field. A field and location the chose on nothing more than supposition, really? BTW sister show Oak Island is what on season 5 or 6 of a similar drawn out quest with no discovery, only clues clues clues.

Compare that to the 5 episode The Hunt for the Zodiac Killer. Great production, concrete finds, and gripping form one episode to the next. Can we please see more!?

DVR the show and fast forward......
shelmar5 June 2019
DVR the show and fast forward through it. There is so much repetition with lame side stories that you only need to watch 50% of the show. If that much at all. They all sit around bobbing their heads in agreement. I stuck with Oak Island (barely). CWG is more the same but much more boring. Also, I can't stand Robert Clotworthy, the narrator.

Sometimes you just have to believe
coachb-2389718 February 2019
Since much of history has been lost, altered or just flat out changed, it is fun to believe in something. These guys have done exhaustive research and the clues, left by many great men from history, were left for us to find. These guys are on to something big and I believe that viewers will be impressed in Season 2!

One Star is Too Much
aaronmace-3133126 June 2019
This show is completely void of any meaningful historical knowledge and consistently contains misrepresented facts or outright falsehoods. Not worth watching and actually harmful to real history. Combined with endless recaps, dubious theories, and bad research, it is hard to take very seriously at all.

Location of boxcar in Lake Michigan
kennethfrankel23 May 2019
I realize the searchers would not want lots of people at the site of the sunken boxcar. It was off a lighthouse near Frankfort, MI. There are several lighthouses, some are restored and look nice - a real treasure. Here are some: Big Sable, Robert Manning Memorial, Frankfort, and Point Betsie. I looked at a boat chart for that area - the water drops off to 200 feet, then to 600 feet going West. So I would like to know what the depth is at the boxcar wreck. OK, that gives away the location. I really was wondering how difficult the dive is. It seemed they were making extra efforts, like having a certified dive master on the boat. So it does seem to be close to 100 feet down, or more. The chart says 558 feet nearby. I got a Basic certification in 1972 and they now have Advanced. Every time I went diving I got pressured to take the advanced course. The problems get worse by the second or third dive because the nitrogen gas (it's in the air) does not all leave your blood right away. So I am not an expert but I understand the issues. I never bashed my head against the dive platform while jumping in. At least there are no sharks. The reefs in the ocean are a real challenge - creatures, coral that is like little jelly fish (polyps), currents. But I did not realize that a fresh water lake will get big waves quickly because the water is less dense than salt water. So a 30 knot wind makes bigger and quicker waves in the lake than in the ocean. Like the Witch of November. The other question -- the modern scuba gear was not around in 1865. If gold was dumped in the lake then, how was it going to be recovered? The Spanish used large cones (pointy end up) to dive- the pressure would be equalized just right. But that was good for the ships near the reefs. Maybe there were those heavy dive suits with the big helmets and pressurized air from the surface.

Yet another we found a coin, I can feel something you can't see..show
intrepidami24 March 2018
Warning: Spoilers
They've already found the treasure, your eyeballs are the treasure! That's all these shows seek to do, get you to tune in next week, next season.

I can't believe the Curse of Oak Island has hooked people in this much on so little. They've redone the found coin thing like 3,4 times. They've brought in "experts" who make Ancient Alien regulars look like beyond reproach researchers.

Now they created a spin off and done the exact same thing..We found a coin! OMG. I'm touching something, we can't show it to you, but it's definitely there!

You know, the story up to now may very well be true. A bunch of Union soldiers may have indeed run off with Confederate gold. The idea of carpetbaggers down south is not new! A ton of Northerners made fortunes stealing from the South.

Now here's the thing, if there was really a train sitting on its side, on a beach visible for many years, do you really think everybody would have just ignored it? Ahhh yeah the old train down at the beach, no never took a picture of it, why would i? That articles in local newspapers wouldn't exist about it? Do you? Than this series is for you! Because you'll believe anything. There would be literally 1000's of pictures! There would be POSTCARDS!

I know a lot about Oak Island. I looked into it 40 years ago. Here's what they kind of avoid on the show. The island was literally strip mined at one point and none of these guys actually knows exactly where to dig for anything! But they never, ever are truthful about that.Having the thing shaved down to bedrock is why the Canadian government made laws about not doing it over and over.

What I see them doing over and over is taking a fact, and then attaching many theories to it. This is what a very accomplished liar will do, start with a foundation of something real. And then build a false story around it, so they can always go back to the provable real thing.

My favorite line so far was "If you've heard, that validates.." No it doesn't!!! I've heard of the ghost of the ;Landmark Theater, that doesn't validate the legend at all. This is exactly how practiced liars weave on a single thread of truth.

Here's my Karnak prediction,,,5 years from now you'll tune in..and they'll still be ohhh.so close to solving this mystery.

This show is complete BS
sfreeman-7492819 June 2019
Just tonight 6/18/19 - narration says over the course of several days, the crew is split between Michigan and Washington/Virginia.

Maybe they slept in the car - but how do they wear the same clothes for the entire show?

The narration over and over takes away from the intent of the show. Horrible waste of time.

Less a crock of gold and more a crock of lies
frogmanethan9 June 2018
The show is insulting to my intelligence, repetitive to the point of nausea and filled with more lies and fake artifacts than the Piltdown Man museum. There is no evidence to support any of the dubious claims made on this sorry excuse for a "reality" show, the characters act like morons and spout tired catchphrases left over from the other show, Choke Island. Another fine point, the lead treasure hunter, Kevin Dykstra is we are told, an experienced diver and knows what he is doing. Why the heck did he jump off a ladder rather than the perfectly usable platform right next to it! I myself have been diving and watched that segment in total disbelief, it was the stupidest thing I've seen on tv in a long time.

Pipe Dreams
martinmstack8 April 2018
The "searchers" in this program should all be embarrassed that they are exposing themselves as simpletons. Here goes... So at the conclusion of the Civil War, the 4th Michigan Cavalry captures, along with Jefferson Davis, wagon loads of gold. How many men in the 4th Cavalry knew? Hundreds? Yet not one of them left any written or even oral history of such plunder. Oh yes but the three ranking union officers supposedly kept it under wraps??? ...right! Then these intellectual midgets who are searching for the gold maintain that the union officers- Pritchard, Hackley, etc moved this gold all over the country? Moved it from Georgia, to Michigan to Utah and melted it down at some point. Again, such movements call for the inclusion of at least dozens of people... yet not one scintilla of corroboration from any laborer, sailor, trainman, or anyone from the time period. Do they assume/think that all this movement and melting of millions of dollars of gold and and silver 150 years ago happened in a vacuum....

And if you think they find anything - don't you think that it would have been reported in the national news already?

Don't watch it.

This program is more Masonic pipe dreaming, and they expect us to swallow it.

Same thing every Episode
tadi-022436 May 2019
Like Curse of Oak Island, gets to the point where every episode is the same, they put a spin on it but essentially same thing. History channel will milk it as long as they have an audience. I watched all seasons of Curse of Oak Island but I stopped watching in 2019, my wife still watches, but I can't give a light of day to Curse of Civil War Gold.

Does this even earn one star?
mrdonsmith225 May 2019
This group of clowns has only convinced themselves that there's a treasure out there, by golly, they know that's a fact, because they know that's a fact. This program is absurd human nature on display amplified by constant reaction shots from Brad Richards who smiles at anything, Frederick J. Monroe who reliably says "gold" at every opportunity, and missionary Kevin Dykstra who leaves absolutely no room for doubt. Now we've introduced a tunnel between two houses in Muskegon the purpose for which, according to the brain trust, was to move "gold!" from one house to the other, as in "How the hell did it get there in the first place?" The Grand Rapids Library scene was simply beyond comedic with three guys engaged in academic research of the highest order, "Hey, get a load of this!" I know it's TV. But it's like watching a 1950s B movie -- so damn bad it's good.

Repetitive - Why watch it, when you can tune in 5 Episodes later?
roguewarrior-7433311 April 2018
This is written in the same way as Curse of Oak Island. Repetitive. We watch the episodes to keep up with the story, but why should we, if we can watch it 5 episodes later and see the same thing?

They need to fire the production company that is making this and Oak Island.

Obsessive Ignorance
dlapre31 May 2019
These guys should just stick to their home brew club and do what they do best in Michigan, make sweet corn liquor.

"Can we start a collection ". What is up with Monroe? Is he homeless? Every episode hes wearing the same shirt and it shows signs of more deterioration every episode. I think he was even wearing same Jean's until like the 2nd to last TV episode of season 2. And the knitted lion? Every TV show or movie. Somewhere always has 1 person who is the village idiot used for comic relief. Hes yet to say or do anything of intellectual value to propel the show forward.

Kevin's whole demeanor and lack of show of confidence makes him look more like he was abused and beaten down. He has to always be first, snatches things, me me me. I he didnt want anyone else in the picture or want to share the find, than why include the people around him, and then get Marty involved. Also. No amount of research takes you exactly to the very spot, in every episode to what your looking for within an hour of arrival for your weekend hobby. Hes found some interesting cool old stuff. We found the same items plus more in the corn fields after they were plowed up after winter rest in Ohio. He hasn't found anything of direct importance yet. Nothing if I was an investor I'd be willing to fund, unless I just had to much money and gambled on every longshot.

You could just keep going on. I quit watching oak island because of the IQ sucking power it had. The way they do things and lack of common sense is outstanding. I've watched the show because of its the touching on American history And historical moments in history that are interesting. The brother and short stocky guy should split off and do it themselves. They seem like the only real intelligence of the show but there held back by th he others. I think they would make a more believable show.
