When Lillian meets Artie's daughter Sheba, she says, "Well, it's nice to see that my father was dating someone age-appropriate. Before you, he was seeing Carol Channing." At the time this episode was first aired, Channing would have been 97 years old.

"...and she stepped on the ball!" Is a quote from one of the snooty ex-friends of Dan Aykroyd in the movie Trading Places (1983).
When Kimmy realizes that her old backpack "Jan S. Port" is holding her back in her life, she decides to let her go by killing her peacefully. She has "Jan" face the beautiful river while she is putting rocks in the backpack to drown her. Having the victim face something beautiful while being killed "peacefully" is a nod to John Steinbeck's book "Of Mice and Men", when George kills Lennie while Lennie is facing a river when George shoots him.
