puzzle piece still missing

Warning: Spoilers
Satisfactory enough to keep viewing until the end, but one question remains in my mind. How did Eric know all the details of the "incident" if no one ever spoke of it?

One twist too many at end
billsoccer29 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The series kept us watching all the way through. It wasn't perfect (or as gripping as his novels, but that's got nothing to do with this review), as some sub-plots - for instance, the Asian family - sometimes went way over the top. However, this last episode rescued most of that before adding 4 too many twists (bottom) to a brilliant end.

I loved the flashbacks, which explained all the missing details up to this point. It was shaping up to be a great summary. In fact, SPOILER # 1: finding out that Sophie killed Chris was a gem. Never saw that coming.

Spoiler # 2: So Sophia and Tom's plan was to: 1) Hope the alarm didn't go off before when she left the emergency exit open for him! 2) Leave the door open for Tom without Bobby noticing? 3) Have Tom arrive just in time, and the first 2 items went OK????? 4) Tom assuming she wouldn't kill him after he confronts her?? These lost the series 1 star.

A Twisted Confession!?
ZegMaarJus23 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This episode begins with Tom, he just found out that Sophie was one of the kids that set the school on fire. Sophie tells the entire story to Tom. Jenny found out about the school fire before she disappeared. Jenny and Chris went to the party to get more information about the school fire. We see flashbacks of all the days that Jenny was gone. Bobby killed Helen at her house. Sophie arrived at Bobby's appartment, she talks with Jenny about the school fire. Tom fights with Bobby. Bobby killed himself with a gun. Jenny returned back home. Tom discovered that Sophie killed Chris. Sophie admits that she killed Chris. We see how Sophie drowned Chris in the swimming pool. Tom turns Sophie in, she got arrested by the police. Nice episode of Safe Season 1, Detective Sophie killed Chris in the swimming pool. What a shock for Tom and such a good end of this really exciting series.

THAT WAS BRILLIANT!!!
Sleepin_Dragon23 May 2018
All throughout Safe has been exceptional, quality from the very start, it's crime drama with a difference, it's complex, thought provoking, intelligent, thrilling, arguably the best thing I've watched since Series one of Broadchurch.

The Question was always going to be, did the series end on a high, or as is so often the case, was it a disappointment.

Resoundingly, this finale was a resounding success, every single thing you hoped for was delivered, and then some. It was intense, gripping, dramatic, thrilling, all you want in a thriller. For once, a drama ends with all the questions answered, no loose ends. Very brave, very bold.

Michael C. Hall has shone the whole way through, Part eight gives Amanda Abbington a real chance to show off her brilliance, that she does.

The story was deep, but easy to follow, when I watch a Silent Witness I always come away scratching my head, I love watching them, but don't always understand, Safe left me in no doubts.

I'm so glad to see such a brilliant series end with this, it deserved to, exceptional.

Part 8 - 10/10

Brilliant TV

I can even overlook Michael C. Hall's not-so-great English accent to say the series was brilliant from start to finish. The British always do detective shows well, and this is no exception. It provides different storylines incongruent trails in which they all come together in a masterful way. Do we really know people as we think we do? Hall's character deals with this from beginning to end. It's bingeworthy as I found myself watching through the night! I had to know what was coming next, because the viewer, as is supposed to, really doesn't know what anyone's motives or actions are/were until the end. Brilliant! Thanks again to Netflix for giving us adult entertainment (get your minds out of the gutter) for which we long! 10/10

Could have been better

The lead had a terrible British accent. I found his character very distracting. It was like he was channeling a classic English actor from to 40s. Also Scott and Bailey would have figured this out in fewer episodes. Overall ok, but not great.

What a Ridiculous Series!
Hitchcoc24 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
From my study of literature over several decades, a work of fiction has an important factor if successful. We need to have a character or characters we care about. There is not one person in this entire show, from that pack of sludge teenagers to the adults in the community. We are supposed to have sympathy for a woman who, with a bunch of other young people, set a school on fire because they didn't like a teacher. This ended up killing eight kids and permanently destroying the life of a guy who tried to save them. For years they kept their secret until good old Jenny found a journal of her late mother's (who decided to do good things for society to make up for killing eight people). She hooks up with one of the co-arsonists and gets her killed. Our boy Tom, when he finds out the truth is willing to throw other people under the bus since he has no skin in the game. Oh, and then we have a convenient suicide by the worst of the worst. Plots that depend on suicide are the weakest of the weak. I won't go on. It's a contrived plot with one dramatic event that is interesting. One persons goes to jail--but she didn't mean it. Of course, she's the only one still breathing. Yuck!
