Ok hoopz kid is a terrible actress already i think they had a screen for her to read her lines off of ..hoopz struggles at times but i see promise ..she was getting more comfortable as the movie went on. Not the best effort however i am intrigued to find out what happens in the sequel. Hate the cliffhanger leave off but it's all good. Actually 1 star but i saw hoopz shower scene and about to make love scene so i threw in two more stars.

Good Movie, A must See!

Awful Movie
thejudge-3042614 January 2019
I'm very, very easy to please when it comes to movies. I've seen tons of movies, and I usually like all of them. People rated it 3.8? I enjoy it usually. It takes a rare kind of movie for me not to like it.
This is it. Don't believe the other reviewers. If you've watched more then 15 movies in your lifetime, this movie will bother you. The storyline is fine, but the acting is the worst I've ever seen in a movie not made by high school kids. There's a little girl in this movie that literally just reads the script, the lead actress is terrible, and most of the side characters actors are pretty bad too.
The sound quality is the worst I've ever heard. As the scenes roll you can hear the differences in wind/traffic/noise between the different angles shot within the same scene. The music isn't en enough of the movie and dies out in certain parts. There's canned voices for certain scenes, which could've easily been fixed in editing.
This movie watches like it was shot in one day, and with only one take for every scene. It's honestly the worst movie I've ever watched and I've seen a good 2,000 movies. I'm very easy to please and man this one sucked bad.
Honestly this is a really badly shot movie, and the storyline does not save it. It's just bad.

Terrible acting. Terrible audio
micah-397395 May 2019
The acting in this is AWFUL. Let me list a handful of the things that got on my last nerve.
-From the first scene on. The moment it started I was annoyed with Jim smacking his gum. Who chews their gum like a cow chewing cud in a movie scene. He's not even the only one that does it. There's multiple ppl.
-Then the audio was horrible. There are scenes that look like they shot it and forgot to turn the audio on so they had to add voice over for that 10 min scene.
-One scene Hoopz opens the screen and front door on a house. It was so obv the sound of the door was edited in it was ridiculous. It was like the sounds they use on a haunted house. The screeching door sound.
-The dude Patrick she goes on a date with, him trying to act all smooth is hard to watch. It doesn't look natural, at all.
-The closed captioning on this movie says *ngger isn't stead of *ngga. How do u not catch that?
I will say the longer the movie goes on the better job Hoopz does. Like she's getting more comfortable. But she def needs some more acting classes to not seem so stiff and like she's acting.

Don't believe the good ratings. This movie is dreadful.

I hate having to drop a bad review on someone's independent effort, but this movie is terrible. I give it one star, pretty much for the lighting and settings.
As to the film's shortcomings...the whole thing screens like a bad reality TV show. Which isn't a big surprise, as the main actor (Nicole Alexander) is apparently from a reality TV show. You can tell she is trying to act, but she doesn't have the range, emotion, or experience to pull off any scenes.
The camera moves like a drunk man in some scenes, but is rock steady in others. In a couple of switch scenes, one scene is steady and the other cam bobs around. Who thought that was fun to watch?
Every line of dialog is stilted and forced, and most of the time is poorly acted. The lines are really, really bad at times. The child actor's lines are so awful as to be laughable.
Some supporting cast members are decent enough actors for a no-budget film, but the abysmal dialog spoils any chance of success in the role. Characters are all cardboard cut-outs of stereotypical tropes.
There's no point in discussing the screenplay or plot problems. It's as if you forced a teenager to watch a week of reality-TV and urban crime drama shows and then asked them to write a movie.
If you are a big fan of Ms. Alexander or whatever TV show she was in, you might find this film interesting. Other than that, skip it. Really awful.

Momma died.
nogodnomasters14 January 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Drug dealer Mike (Jim Jones) finds his head in a bag in the first scene. Pregnant girlfriend (Nicole Alexander) takes over the business and runs it with her cousins. Five years later turf war.
It was a pretty simple and plain story, ya feel me? Horrible script and the acting was mediocre. The sound quality wavered as did the camera as it appears they didn't use a tripod or find anything to set it upon. In a kitchen scene, the camera swayed enough to give us a view of the microphone shadow. This is just sloppy filming. You don't even have to have gone to film school to avoid these mistakes.
Guide: F-word. Partial nudity.

Where is Pt 2
chinaalisha17 January 2019
I enjoyed this movie! Call me crazy or whatever but I vibed with the Nicole as Maria...she held it down! Not to many movies where a smart minded woman runs the show with intelligence, beauty, and balls atop being a mother. If you haven't written Pt 2 and need help, please call me! Lol
This movie was hilariously bad.

Warning: Spoilers
A few things that weren't mentioned by other people:
In the scene with Hoopz and Jim Jones, there are times where the characters would talk over each other.
For whatever reason they decided to not edit out Hoopz' fumbles.
When the baby momma is brought in by Cisco, she speaks but her lips don't move (I don't know how they could miss that).
The acting was horrid, the worst offenders being the guy who plays Hoopz brother and the lady at the hospital w/ Will. This movie had me HOWLING at how bad and cringey it is.
I will say that the lady that Sean was trying to court was pretty convincing. For me, the awful acting, the janky mixing, the 2005 sound quality really distracts from the plot.

I was really into this movie and am already waiting for the sequel!! There is action, suspense, plot twists, and stellar performances! I had no idea what was going to happen but did not expect the twists within this story, which is always a sign of a good story! Don't listen to the haters, this movie is SOLID. I can't wait for the next one and I hope Dennis Reed and his team are well into making the follow up to this because I'm ready!! Recommend!
A good quality movie

Impressive indie Thriller
Anmer932 September 2019
A really impressive Indie thriller, gripping story with some unexpected twists, the writing and directing were really well handled and the cast give a great performances all-round. Really worth checking out for a low budget independent production.

First Lady Wields Power
TheAll-SeeingI24 October 2019
When you're the main man's significant other, you can sometimes have your own axe to wield as a result of that relationship. The phrase "First Lady" evokes that in our male-centric presidential politics, and it also translates accordingly to Dennis L. Reed II's hard-hitting and expertly-crafted urban drama of that same name.
This film has done exceedingly well as a high-grossing, grass-roots indie, infringing on the privileged and no-longer-exclusive territories of the old boy's club of major studio releases. It's clear how it's achieved that hard-earned traction, as the compelling Nicole "Hoopz" Alexander is big-time in both social media influence and acting prowess operating in the lead role. Her man meets an early demise as the film's inciting incident, and in her grief, she unwittingly falls for his killer in this terrific, modern adaption of the survival of the fittest tale.
The production value here does more to blur the line between indie and major studio product -- the film looks gorgeous and killer, and the sound is shrewdly and very intentionally designed to have a specific impact all its own. "First Lady" is compelling filmmaking, and ultimately proves itself as a fine piece of filmic storytelling.
