Good

It is a good unpretentious drama with simple yet very true story about Ukrainian life and mother-son relationships. Camerawork stands out however may feel like a videoclip sometimes, also there is a lot of beautiful scenery and interesting places shown through the movie. Actors did a great job, especially an actress who portrayed mother character. Plus there was a cool hypnotic retro wave soundtrack and Twin Peaks reference. Although movie might seem slow and boring it is characteristic of its genre and at the end of the day it should strike you with emotions which it does. May recommend almost for everyone cause of mother-child theme.

Nothing spoken out loud

Warning: Spoilers
This film is a road trip tragi-comedy. Son doesn't like mum. She's lonely and made stupid mistakes and life choices. She is suicidal and emotionally needy. He is an aspiring artist (and a good one) chasing a gig doing foley recordings for a video game, so that he can pay for dental work and wants to move to Canada. "I never thought of coming back." In the end, mum finds her man and gets her closure, while son is left back in Kyiv where he started with nothing to show for his efforts.

It's difficult to say what this movie is about. There's a lot going on. The scene with the lip balm was genuinely funny and uncomfortable. The soundtrack is fantastic. Certainly, the whole foley audio recording thing is a huge maguffin. The movie backed away carefully at the climax moment where the maguffin may have been attained. So maybe it's about emotionally needy mothers, and how there is no room for the son's own voice and thoughts, hence the movie title. Mum belittled his music. Nobody understands what he does for a job. We never really hear about his dreams, and only that he wants to move away to another country. Perhaps, no wonder.

This is my first modern Ukrainian film experience. It left me feeling similar to how I felt at the end of Superbad. I'm also thinking about my own mum, now.

Comedy for smart people

This film at first glance is about the relationship between mother and son, but in reality everything is much more complex, fun and brighter. This is a really intelligent and funny movie. Of course, if you don't know Ukrainian language, you lose a lot of funny moments, but if you're a fan of English humor, I think you'll love this movie.

Incredibly soulful film!

Warning: Spoilers
I'm just shocked, I really liked the movie. I think that this film will be to the liking of people who live in Ukraine, found those grandparents, moms and dads who flaunted to relatives the merits of their sons and daughters. Parents who love their children very much may even leave them to live until they find housing, or they may be evicted from their homes. The theme of religion in the film is very familiar to all children and adults, these Orthodox prejudices that can not be done. The problem of women who have divorced their husbands, found a young man, and receive gifts from him ... The theme of loneliness, not listening. A good cliché moment with the robbery of the protagonist on the train))) This film shows the real life of our citizens, without jewelry, without the confrontation of rich and poor, bandits and cops in stupid Russian series. This movie shows. Us. Ukrainians. Those who we are! Very cool neon music, just honey for the ears.

Watched at a group screening and the vibes were 👌

I watched this movie twice - once in Ukraine, at a group screening - the director provided the film to us upon request - and we all had a blast. The second time I watched it in the US with my American partner.

This movie has a lot of really awesome cultural jokes that hit home in the right context, but some of the jokes needed explanation for an American viewer. But I appreciate that - I admire the director making movies for Ukrainians, and not for some imaginary audience. Moyi Dumky came out very authentic and real - I felt like the characters were written off my family members and our strained but loving relationships.

The movie was shot beautifully, if anything you will find yourself aesthetically pleased.

The best Ukrainian film of 2019
AleksandrBelenko22 June 2021
I had high hopes for this movie. It is presented as a decent drama/comedy that has claimed good Mark's from festivals.

And as a Ukrainian I always for new good Made in Ukraine movie.

And sure, there is good comedy here and there. But overall it is slow-paced movie with amateur cinematography.

Can't say it is unwatchable, but if there is something different better stick to the second choice.
