Well done and evocative

I feel moved by the love story. There is such good chemistry between the leads. The politics they face become very personal indeed; by kindling a relationship between witch and vampire, they are risking the wrath of the whole congregation of the three creature species. But they do have some allies.

In this episode Diana learns more about her powers and hangs out with her prospective mother-in-law, who takes her on a hunt. Various factions of the Congregation negotiate and a few make their moves.

Adult twist of the Twilight series

I couldn't help but compare the love between Dianna and Matthew with Bella and Edward from Twilight. This show however is more of an adult version with the added twist of witches vs campers and demons instead humans vs vampires and werewolves. I fell in love with Twilight as an adult however I am enjoying this series so much more since its more adult themed. I love how each species hate each other and cross breeding is not allowed but expect a group of each sit on a congregation to enforce these boundaries. It seems they all were too willing to allow their own to become extinct and allow humans to be the sole species until a witch fell in love with a vampire.

Warning: Spoilers
I thoroughly enjoy the parallel hunting scenes, it builds such a suspense. I also enjoy the way the showrunners portray Diana as an actual adult woman and not a teenager as in so many other vampire stories; she's making actual informed choices rather than just following passions.

I have replayed the reunion scene three times.

Ans an extra tip of the hat for the way Matthew Goode manages to totally shift his facial expressions between serenity, predatory aggression, and joy.
