This episode begins with King Louis-Phillipe being driven from France. All over Europe there is unrest and suspicion of the monarchies. Suddenly, the Chartists are gaining a foothold in London. They are representatives of the working poor and wish for reform.
There are also several things taking place at the Palace. The Secretary of State, a complete ass, is asserting his authority. Victoria's half sister, a complete bore (an perhaps a dangerous presence) shows up and she has expectations of being treated like other figures of royalty. And, Louis has asked for asylum and is now present in the Palace. Soon the "barbarians are at the gates."

Good to see veteran character actors in there

I really liked this episode. The year is 1848. Victoria is pregnant w/ child #6 (Helena); Laurence Fox appears as the Foreign Secretary, the pompous Lord Palmerston, who ruffles the royal feathers mightily. Veteran character actor Vincent Regan takes over as French king Louis Philippe who, a French king once again usurped by his people, tries hard with a not very convincing French accent. Where is his wife, Queen Amalie of Naples? A painting of St. Amalie by de la Roche, owned by Queen Amalie, featured in a recent episode of FAKE OR FORTUNE, remains one of my favorite episodes in that series.
Where is Miss Wilhelmina Coke??

Looks like this season will be more serious with palace intrigue. I don't see Mr. Francatelli & Skeritt being able to marry. I don't think she'll want to leave the queen. Feodora kind of gives me the creeps. Will be interested to see where her story goes. I'll muss Diana Rigg though. She added much needed levity but was also very wise and caring. Order if we'll see Ernst & Harriett again, but my burning question is, where is Lord Alfred's fiancée, Wilhelmina Coke? She was such a bright spot!

Warning: Spoilers
There were certain times during Series 2 where this show did not exactly have the most riveting material historically to work with.
It looks like they ironed that issue out and have a better path as this season progresses.
