Season 1 was hilarious, season 2 meh
timhds1 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
So far season 2 is no where near as clever as season 1. Apparently getting BDSM correct was more important than continuing a hilarious show. The spark is dead, but hey, at least we know a collar is for a sub.

Really enjoyed this
sethreardon24 April 2019
Quirky premise, simple characters...somehow...I can't look away. Really enjoying it, I've binge watched 6 episodes in a row. It's very light-hearted really, an easy watch. The main actress is pretty easy on the eyes too which helps. I think there are only 8 episodes which is a shame, I hope they make more. Very watchable.

A wacky atmosphere based on a kinky s&m background
FrenchEddieFelson4 May 2019
A smart entertainment resulting of the unexpected third kind encounter between The Monty Python, Zed from Pulp Fiction (Quentin Tarantino, 1994) and the complete YMCA (Village People, 1978). A female dominatrix working at night in New York City asks her best high school friend to become her right-hand man. In short: she's a dom, he's gay. So, be prepared for a 100-minutes sheer lunacy as obscene as entertaining.

My favorite quotes, as a not exhaustive list: I'm a dom, not a prostitute. Is the « I'm sorry, I hate apologizing » gluten free? Blow jobs are like the AirBnB of sex but anal is straight home-owning. Get in the f*king chair, Doug! She a flower made of steel. You look like Wonder Woman at a funeral. Life happened to me, so I thought « Fix it! ». She tickles me until she gets mad, and then she hits me. You are not Christian f*king Bale.

Went from stiff to flacid
rich735413 April 2022
Season one was very enjoyable and had wit, humor, and good writing.

Season two started off OK, but then took itself far too seriously and was just boring to watch.

I was really hoping that Tiff would end up alone. She was far too manipulative and hypocritical in season two.

My only complaint is that the episodes are TOO SHORT! This is a super witty, and sexually freeing show. I hope it gets lots of positive attention and keeps going. You've got fans amongst our group ;)

An easy watch to pass your time
at_RivyuwMamak23 May 2019
Bonding surely has intriguing premise. It touches a taboo subject in a light and enjoyable way.

I loved their "dark" comedy! It was fresh and funny 😆. Both story and characters were built nicely too!

I can't really see how they gonna pull off their second season, but still looking forward to it.

One of the most unique series ideas in a while!
cmelaniesenf22 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Loosely comparable to "The Girlfriend Experience". But a little too shallow for my taste.

Season 1 belittles the industry in a too comedic way while season 2 is the complete opposite. The series would have been better off with probably more seasons to go if they would have chosen a different perspective but without losing its dark humor.

The cast. So many reviewers throw shade on the Tiff character. Why? She's just like Christine of "The Girlfriend Experience", farouche, insecure, curious, and yes, she also is proud of what she is doing (in some way). Both started doing it for money reasons, but they evolved into businesswomen seeing the bigger picture and the power they would have over men. Nevertheless, both fail to balance life. They destroy relationships because of their incapability of letting people come close to them.

Let's add a word or two about Pete.

He's the most annoying character since ... a lot of other annoying characters.

He's using Tiff and her life for his standup comedy performances without even asking! This girl is trying to make a living you idiot!

He's selfish, disrespectful, and clearly not a good friend.

I would even go so far as to say, that Pete is the reason why the series got cancelled. He downplays the whole industry.

But he's not the only shallow part.

The series comes across prudish with its PG-rating. Why is everything about pleasing everybody these days?

The series had so much potential.

Did you know they were forced to hire a consultant to make the industry look right because season 1 received lots and lots of complaints? And yes, they changed the whole atmosphere for that matter.

Refreshingly new TV show! I LOVE it!
ptardif-9354925 April 2019
Right from episode one I was hooked. Yes it plays on stereotypes but the show does deliver a message in an interesting manner. I don't think it's meant to shock since Netflix viewers are already used to such outrageous and daring scenes. Take orange is the new black for example. Instead, the show delivers new fresh content that has something for every viewer and it does so in a 'noire' genre of comedy. If you're looking for a show, with a twist of wit, that makes you forget the daily grind, then I would highly suggest this one. The episodes are short, however they do not disappoint and hopefully there will be a season two! Don't take my word for it nor any other reviewers', simply watch it and enjoy!

Poor portrayal of Psychology, great show
chenshirleyy1 May 2019
Other than the complete butchering of what the field of psychology is, this show is fresh and funny as heck!!

Problems with portrayal of psychology: -you go med school to become a psychiatrist, you go to grad school to become a psychologist.

-you definitely do not do a thesis on your own personal experiences that led you to want to become a psychologist

Not that I'm expecting this show to be super realistic but come on!

A good show!
Derache5 May 2019
Quite a funny and unique show to watch for fun. Doesn't present any new ideas to the table of film making or to the viewer, but it still is a simple and enjoyable film to watch.

Season One 👍 Season Two 👎
xva-5429029 January 2021
Loved season one it was new, interesting and very funny. The episode's had no fat on them, they didn't fall into the traditional format of use sitcoms/dramas.

Then season two through all that out and added all the traditional stuff in. The way the creator took the criticisms by the BDSM community has affect season two and not in a good way. Season two goes out of its way to correct the mistakes they made and in doing so made the season dull.

The over correction drags and slows the second season down. Now I don't know the BDSM scene and I wouldn't know if the first season portrayed it correctly, i wouldn't care either way, and from what I read it didn't, but I wasn't watching the show for a real portrayal of the BDSM scene, if I wanted to know about it I would watch a documentary.

I laughed during the first season but not has much in the second, I looked at my phone during the second season, I didn't in the first.

Also the writing to me isn't as good as the first, the plot twists can be spotted by a blind person, they are that signposted it's like a man talking over the scene say take a note of this it might become relevant later, wink.

I also noticed that what happens to one of the leads also happens to the other, for example if something good happens to one it also happens to the other and it's they same if something bad happens.

I would recommend watching the first season 100%, the two leads are really great, they are soo watchable and pull you into there lives and you care about there friendship. The episodes flyby and you notice and you wish they were longer, whereas season two they episodes appear to drag, and the plots write themselves, the setups for later episodes are so in your face it's disappointing, only watch season two if you have to. If there is a season three well, I think I already know the arc and so will you if you watch season two.

First season nice, second is ok...
erhanipekciler4 April 2021
First of all, in second season Pete is a little annoying and forced funny character. First season he was ok but in second i really can't stand on him. Also unfortunately 3rd episode of 2nd season, I didn't still understand what is the story here.

I liked it first season but I will not say to same thing for second. 7/10 for only first season.

Adult but funny.
loiner100019 June 2019
This is my first review after what? 10? 15 years. I don't know. I really enjoyed this series. It's like a cross between the good place and Juno. The characters are likeable the adult references are appropriately timed. Thoroughly enjoyable.

Second season wasn't the same, still good show.
sloopnp7 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I agree with others that the first season was excellent and funny. The second season was just all the main characters taking turns being mad at each other. That's not comedy, that's grade school drama. Too bad it went in that direction. It's a drama now, not a comedy.

Absolutely loved this show, and cannot wait for another season. You don't have to be into BDSM, but it helps.

"Good" but not "Great"
Reimeir125 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Initially I was drawn to this title for its outrageous premise. While I think the setting delivers and provides some interesting insights into BDSM lifestyles, the story lacked the focus it would need to deliver anything more interesting than average. On the one hand I really enjoyed Pete's story and was satisfied with its conclusion in season 2, however I really struggled to relate to Tiff and I think her character was assassinated the hardest by the sheer amount of melodrama in the story.

My biggest problem was that she wasn't endearing and yet everyone seemed to be bending over backwards for her (Doug & Pete), while I think this was the right direction for Pete's character there ended up being not enough foil to Tiff that could challenge her beliefs or at times toxic behaviour. The story tries to fix this by "redeeming" Tiff's character, sort of apologising to everyone, but I would've much preferred if she embraced a mean identity unapologetically, which in my mind is what being a Dominatrix is all about. For comparison I found Josh a much more interesting "dominant" character, he's charming and charismatic and you can see why Pete who feels insecure would attach to him very easily.

In an attempt to humanise Tiff being a dominatrix I feel like they lost this charming and charismatic qualities that would explain why people are bending over backwards for her and that would have been a much more gripping narrative in my opinion. There are still some really powerful moments, usually monologues, Frank's speech in season 2 was in my mind phenomenal, and so was Carter's in the S2 finale to Tiff, but these are only masterful in the context of those moments and not the wider show. It also does a good job at normalising a lot of things that we think of as outrageous and I think that's a good thing. Would I recommend it? Not urgently, but I think you very quickly see if it's something you like or not so why not try it.

What's there not to like about show likening AirbnB to a blow job?
bsant5424 April 2019
Pretty Girl. Pretty Boy. Friends since High School. Now, a Dominatrix and Psychology student and Her Assistant and Waiter. Good little actors. The Supporting Cast makes them shine. Sexual desires of people hidden and exposed in a light hearted way. They show 1 dark side at the end, still with some humour to lighten it up. 7 Episodes Flew Right By...More Please. It was so easy to watch, laugh and pity at times.

Oh well.
NeonRainSurfing1 April 2021
It's good that the second season appears to have spent a lot of attention to representation, although it has gone a bit overboard the other way and it has done his at the expense of plot and rhythm. It seems a bit preachy and almost like it's apologising for the first season. Maybe one day we will have a show with just two people in a stable, loving relationship who happen to be owner and slave, rather than limiting bdsm to sex work. Oh well.

Clever, Humorous, No Nudity & definitely MA

A project involving antics like these, with satisfying performances, while maintaining a sense of authenticity is a challenge. But they've managed it.

Season 2 is much better
Lysie2421 March 2021
Glad to see Season 2 was improvement. Improvement in that actual consent was discussed. In Season 1, Tiff (Mistress May) failed miserably at showing how a Dom should be. It kind of was embarrassing. I was glad to see from the very first episode those moments were redeemed, and it was strongly explained how a Dom becomes worthy. There was more discussion and education this season on the lifestyle. Making it very clear it shouldn't be misrepresented or viewed as a joke. I was able to enjoy the show more because of the proper representation. Hope there will be a season 3 with even more growth. Pete still has lots to improve on.

One of the most accurate mainstream portrayals of kink to date
nafnikufesin-913-921825 April 2019
Episodes are short, you can binge the entire season in less than it takes you to watch a movie. This is a show about people that live kinky lifestyles (BDSM, fetishes, that sort of thing) and the psychology behind them, but does it as a comedy. It's actually one of the better representations of the topic, even though some of the scenes will come across as "outrageous humor" and "shock value" for those people with more vanilla tastes. It is much more entertaining than other productions that have tried to address the topic and butchered it (Fifty Shades, I'm looking at you).

I'll admit that I bumped the rating by a point just for bringing topics to the screen that don't often get talked about in any serious way. But then I deducted the rating a point for some sloppy and rushed writing in the last couple episodes, and I always have a pet peeve when a show can't take 20 seconds to Google the difference between psychiatry and psychology.

Overall, it's worth a watch to see an entertaining look at a commonly misunderstood topic.

Season 2 ...... what's gone wrong !
maclapham27 January 2021
I'm 3 episodes in and don't think I can watch anymore 😩. Seems that the characters that were prominent and so endearing in the first season have taken a back seat and I haven't laughed or felt squeamish once in this new season - feel Like it's an opportunity lost and don't think I'll revisit it again ! Will just pretend it's a one season deal and rewatch that 👌🏻

New, eye opening but..
Brainscreens26 April 2019
The plot is intriguing but im not sure about the execution. it's a new fresh idea that is freeing, mainly sexual but also very woke! However, the characters introduction was a little bit rushed, they didn't give me time to understand them emotionally but overall i ended up enjoying some of the episodes. I hope they do better next season.
