The first episode opens with a British Army Jeep driving past, and ignoring, a group of youths who are painting over the *London* part of a Londonderry road sign. This is still done today, in 2018.
While filming the scenes in Dennis' shop, Nicola Coughlan started to realize the potential of this show, feeling that they were filming something really good. Her prediction turned out correct, because this show not only became Channel 4's most successful comedy since Father Ted (1995), but also gained a huge global cult-following since its debut on Netflix.
Nicola Coughlan (Clare Devlin) has admitted, that she based Claire's accent on singer Nadine Coyle. Both Nadine and writer for the show, Lisa McGee went to the same school, Thornhill College in Derry.
