A few problems

The premise for this movie is a little different but not unique. Chloe only gets to see her "one" at Christmastime every year, and every year there is something keeping them apart after Christmas. This movie also uses the rival girlfriend and the rival boyfriend plot device, but not exactly in the usual way. I felt the movie was stretched too long without enough interesting and new content. The ending was especially too stretched out.

The other big reason I didn't enjoy this movie is a combination of feeling really bad for Ted and the movie's over-obsession with "waiting for the one". Ted is presented as much more likeable than most rival boyfriends. But Chloe obsesses for years over a man she has only spent a few hours with. I could go into more detail but that ventures into spoiler territory.

Arielle Kebbel seems to be coasting in the role of Chloe. And Chloe starts to be a little annoying in her indecision. Corey Sevier, as Evan, seems to do a better job. But is there chemistry? They certainly hit it off the first Christmas, but Evan has a job in Oslo and has to leave. If they hit it off so well, why is there no contact during the year. We have video chat technology now (which is actually used with Chloe and her mom). I bring up chemistry - in the succeeding years there is something more immediate in their way and the chemistry has disappeared. It has been replaced by mind-numbing preoccupation. I thought the movie just became sad or even pitiful after the first Christmas.

Markie Post makes a good mom, but she and Judge Reinhold overact a bit. Cassidy Nugent as the little girl is fine, but she never grows up even as years pass.

Many viewers will be happy to overlook the problems I mention, and if that's the case, you will probably enjoy the movie as much as any in this genre.

A bit different from the other Christmas movies

A couple meet at a Christmas festivity. They dance and bond but he is posting overseas for work and so they don't start a relationship. Every year they meet up he's in a relationship then she until finally - you know what. Arielle Kebbel looks prettier than she did in Vampire Diaries fine for Hallmark / Lifetime standard. Corey Sevier is the guy and they have a good enough chemistry.

It's often something that happens to couples sometimes the timing isn't right. Just have to wait till things are right.

At least there is a sweep of time and no unnecessary contrived drama at the end.

Have yourself a merry fourth Christmas

Have always had a thing for good concepts, which has often been one of my main reasons for seeing any film or episode of a show. The concept for 'Four Christmases and a Wedding' sounded very appealing and on paper sounded different from the usual Christmas film in recent years, when we have had Lifetime and even more so Hallmark films that have followed the same or similar formulas with not much variation. It was my main reason for seeing this film.

While the concept for 'Four Christmases and a Wedding' was far from squandered, the film also could have done a good deal more with it. Conceptually 'Four Christmases and a Wedding' sounded different, but it was executed in a quite conventional manner in the film which is a shame. Have always adored Christmas and 'Four Christmases and a Wedding' has moments where it captures the spirit of the holiday quite well, when one is not frustrated by the sloppiness of the writing.

'Four Christmases and a Wedding' has good things. It looks quite good, especially the scenery. There are moments of nostalgia and authenticity in the soundtrack. Corey Sevier is a likeable male lead, while Judge Reinhold and Markie Post are treats in their roles. The younger cast members are not too cute or too bratty.

There are moments where 'Four Christmases and a Wedding' is charming and shows signs of heart. The Christmas spirit is there in parts.

Sadly, in my view, Arielle Kebbel tries too hard and her acting comes over as forced. She is very beautiful, but she didn't need to try that hard and didn't always seem comfortable. Didn't like her character of Chloe, at all either. Her obsessiveness was way overdone, one of my bugbears in film is character flaws being exaggerated and that's the case here, to the extent that it became annoying and borderline creepy. The characters are not developed that well and come over as sketchy cliches, while the central relationship is far too rushed and didn't feel that developed. Basically a big just there plot device with no conflict or much spark.

Much of the music is over-scored and could have been used a good deal less. The script doesn't flow that well and is very cheesy and sappy. It's the story and pacing that most let 'Four Christmases and a Wedding' down. The pace does drag a lot and the story, on top of being excessively predictable, over-sentimental and contrived, came over as mostly bland and badly over-stretched from too much overlong padding trying to hide how little plot there is.

Concluding, very, very average. 5/10

Boring so so boring

Also desperately lacking in all the details:

• that young girl that doesn't age in 8 years
• the two other children that age accordingly then suddenly stop growing
• on-location Winter shots don't make up for the lack of Winter feel this movie brings.. thin clothing, ice cream eating, nobody seems cold..
• the main character's house seems to be a tardis: her single red door that on the inside is a double door plus the massive living space compared to how tiny the house is on the outside *sigh*
• but the best aka worst one: that ice rink. #wtaf? We laughed so hard at how bad it was.

Do not waste your time. Unless you want to see a bunch of people pretending to skate on the world's smallest non-slippery ice rink ever.

Damn those cookies are hard!

Other reviewers noted the silly things about this movie - the Tardis apartment, Smurf size skating rink, child that never aged, etc. Also the cookie crunching. I want to know, besides biscotti, what the hell kind of cookies reqiure that much crunching? She looked like she was eating carrots, or maybe a granola bar. Sooo annoying. If you can't eat real cookies for the movie for the sake of your figure, don't bother. It doesn't add anything to the story to see a super skinny actress supposedly stuffing her face all the time.

Better Than Most Christmas Movies

I thought the plot was more clever than most Christmas movies. The acting was surprisingly good across the board. The lead actress, Arielle Kebbel, was delightful and charming. I also loved that she was constantly eating during the scenes! It was a special treat to see Markie Post and Judge Reinhold on the screen. I also liked all the establishing shots featuring real snow scenes--that helped keep the movie cold and Christmas-y. I also liked that the movie continued for 5 minutes past the "normal ending" of a Christmas movie. Overall very enjoyable.

Stop 👏🏻 Eating 👏🏻 Cookies 👏🏻 While 👏🏻 Talking 👏🏻 The lead actress tries to be cute and nonchalant by crunching on Christmas cookies every chance she gets. It's not cute, it's annoyingly and off putting. Everyone knows that no one wants to listen to someone eat!

Good Christmas Movie with Arielle Kebbel

Arielle Kebbel starred in one of my favorite Christmas movies, A BRIDE FOR CHRISTMAS (2012), so I was excited to watch this one. Unfortunately this one did not have the depth of story, emotion and great humor. It was a good movie. It was great to see the forever young Markie Post (Night Court) as her mom. The story tried to cover 4 years of Christmas and the 1st year when they met was rushed a bit (this hurt the emotional connection with me as the audience). Also the little girl really didn't get bigger over the time period. I loved how the dog was part of their story. Hope Arielle continues to make Christmas movies.

4 Christmases + 1 Wedding = 90 minutes of boredom

This movie is bad on so many levels. It could've been done in 30 minutes, 40 tops. Even the well-known actors performed awful. The plot is unbelievably boring, very predictable, sluggish and full of holes. Nothing exciting happens (not even the terribly obvious fake pregnant belly) eventhough it's Christmas time. I did enjoy Madison Smith and Donna Benedicto -I'm secretly hoping a decent screenwriter and director will tell the story of their romance and do a way better job than this...this...hot mess.

Soaper With a Christmas Theme Does Not Ring True

Evan Mathers and Chloe Taylor seem destined for each other. Evan is an executive for an international corporation. Chloe works for RSVP Events Planning outside of New York City. Sparks begin to fly when they meet by chance at the Christmas Fair that Chloe has planned in the fictional city of Fairmont.

But what follows is a preposterous scenario in which the characters are separated and reunite for four consecutive Christmases. Despite the wonders of the modern technological age, Evan and Chloe do not stay in touch by telephone, e-mail, texting, or Skype. Rather, they continue to remain in love and meet up every year at Christmastime.

In this kind of romantic drama, the characters typically are challenged to overcome obstacles in order to finally declare their love. But in this case, the only obstacles come from the characters' own stupidity. Evan foolishly gets involved with Raquel, whom he brazenly brings back to the United States for the second Christmas meeting with Chloe at the Christmas Fair. By the third Christmas, Chloe is dating her co-worker Ted, but it is clear that she really doesn't love him.

The film drags on endlessly with Chloe inexplicably never being approached by men other than Ted. While the actress playing Chloe rose above the material, it was never believable that this dynamic woman would be a Miss Lonelyhearts. The best scenes were in the first Christmas encounter where she and Evan were first attracted to each other. But it stretched credibility that the characters never really had an honest conversation about either their personal lives, their career goals, or much in the way of shared emotions.

One can only wonder what the marriage of Evan and Chloe will be like, given the inability to communicate over the course of four Christmases.

Really a boring movie

What the hell happened to Judge Rienhold? He was never a looker, but that face is just. . . ? He actually doesn't feature that much though so it's ok.

This film isn't too bad, that is to say, that I didn't rush to turn it off, but I didn't find myself glued to it either. It has a similar concept to 'Love At The Christmas Table' in the way that the events span many years and each year brings another problem to prevent them getting together.

I am not usually a fan of the male lead, Corey Sevier, but he seems to have found his fit in this one. The rest of the cast are all fine too.

It has a nice seasonal vibe centred around a Christmas fair and the romance is cute.

I think I may have become a bit numb to these films as I've seen at least 150 since just before December and that is why this one doesn't wow me, but we will see as I still have about another 60 to watch.

I think this movie is pretty nice. The argument is not so typical and in various moments of the movie I was doubting with who she was gonna end on the movie. The love you have when you feel fireworks or the love that grow ups? I think it's better than other boring Christmas movies.

Plot nicely done and well played by cast. Think the lead deserves more and better roles. She can act and is so beautiful.

Cute idea but lacking substance

These movies succeed because they are formulaic and make you feel all warm and fuzzy. Unfortunately I didn't get those feels because I couldn't connect with Arielle Kibble in the lead role of Chloe.

Arielle is a beautiful woman; however, her performance didn't seem to be coming from a sincere place. I wasn't invested in her character as a result.

Her overacting was distracting and resulted in little chemistry between the two leads (central point of these movies).

Corey Sevier played his part well, especially when you consider how little he was getting back from the leading lady. The rest of the cast were good and the scenery was simply gorgeous.

Overall, there seemed to be too much focus on trivial events and not enough fleshing out of the main characters and plot. The idea was nice, but it got lost amongst the frills at the writing table.

Arielle Kebbel should practice her facial expressions in front of a mirror so she can see how exaggerated and painful she is to watch. The child actress is creepy too. I was waiting for her to say, "They're baaack".

The story doesn't make sense - why wouldn't they be having contact throughout the year? The lead characters are just plain annoying.

Take this for what it is; 'made for TV' Xmas break! Yes 'Four Christmases and a Wedding' (2017) has no deep social message/meaning.....it's just kind of fun. The characters are engaging (surprised to see 'BeverlyHills Cop' alum; Judge Reinhold) Its a classic story of our couple meeting at an event, and not closing the deal for four years! So sit back, watch this delightful Christmas Nugget!.....

Lead character has no manners!!!!

In what seemed to be almost every scene- the lead character was talking with food (cookies?) in her mouth!! It was rude, it was annoying and totally distracted me from the story. I finally just turned it off - I couldn't take anymore!!! These are elementary school table manners!!!!!!!!

Arielle is excellent in this movie. Although it's hard to believe such a cutie isn't being swept off her feet 4 times a day. The plot is predictable especially with the movie title. But when you put Christmas and love in the same venue you can't go wrong. It is especially good to see Arielle away from violent scripts. She deserves kinder gentler roles like this movie. The actress' gesture is so annoying. Constant eating with mouth open, too much childish face expression, eyes rolling. Ugh. And steph's maternity leave is 6 month?? Is that possible in us? I'm sure she's at least 6mo preggo on 2nd xmas. 3rd xmas her child should be around 5/6mo and steph is still taking maternity leave?

bad movie

Lifetime has gorgeous productions. But it lacks a certain Christmas flamboyance. The movie has every Christmas decor imaginable but from the beginning, the Christmas excitement lacks.

This movie is bad. It had potential in the beginning and then the middle part came. And it got worse and worse. The acting was decent, but that Evan guy was terrible. I hated how he was showing off his girlfriend in front of the main girl. Then, for him to just leave without giving his number, and wait four Christmases just bugged me. The Ted guy was nice until they changed his character so we wouldn't like him. Another thing that I didn't like was the fact that they said I love you. It is insane! They don't even know each other. It seemed like they should have just gotten married the next day! Overall, it's a one time watch.

Have watched this the last few Christmases on the Christmas channel randomly. Absolutely love this movie and hope I can find it for this year. Since I'm in the UK can't seem to buy the DVD as probably only made for American audiences.

Its a feel good movie, yes its probably predictable to some people but if you are happy watching a cute Christmas movie then this one is one to add to the list.
