Warning: Spoilers
Here we have the CBS television special The Victoria's Secret Fashion Show from 2017, an annual fashion event, actually you could perhaps say the biggest annual fashion event as every aspiring model somehow dreams about being a Victoria's Secret angel at some point. This reference goes back to the wings obviously that almost every model displayed here in addition to their outfit when appearing on the catwalk. It ran for slightly over 40 minutes, so really not that long, and took place in Shanghai. While they were displaying said fashion, you got to hear live music from some relatively well-known musicians like Harry Styles, probably the most famous that night and his angel song was kinda fitting, even if I preferred Leslie Odom jr. to be honest. I liked that idea. The music felt like a nice way to support the presentation, but it wasn't too much in the center to get in the way. Yeah, what you may think about stuff like the models' little videos about how they started modelling or had that dream since they were a child or how we watch them exercise earlier is debatable. I think it is not needed in such a short "film", but it also is not a problem either and gives some nice distraction away from the catwalk moments. What else can I say? My rating here also has to do with my subjective taste. Don't care too much about (the) fashion (world), about clothing in general and about pompous events and garments like these here. Also I found the everybody best friends with everybody mentality as irritating as always. There is a whole lot of make-believe here and little authenticity away from the clothes they were wearing. So all in all I give this one a thumbs-down. Also be prepared for some Naomi Campbell, Madonna and Alessandra Ambrosio admiring if you decide to watch. A bit too much perhaps and again that did not feel as real as I hoped it would. But what yould you expect in terms of reality and authenticity behind these thick layers of makeup. The model world is not one I would want to be a part of or associated with whatsoever. In this event's favor here I must say it is not as bad as I thought it would be, perhaps thanks to the very experienced Hamish Hamilton?
