  • A quick kiss between girl and her boyfriend nothing major
  • Man is shown in boxers.

Violence & Gore

  • A village chief is beaten ruthlessly by a politician's goons. He is kicked and punched mercilessly. He is seen withering in pain with some blood on his face. Not at all graphic.

  • Mild profanity. A couple uses of the word sh*t, one in English, one in African language. A few other mild profanities such as the use of the phrase "what he hell..."
  • 2 uses of "shit", 1 use of "damn", 2 uses of "hell", 2 uses of "stupid", 1 use of "rape" and 1 use of "oh my God".

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • There is a scene where two older boys see a man being beaten up. He is on the ground and other men are kicking him.
  • There are some intense arguments between people, including between a father and son. Some of these arguments involve loud yelling, and pushing. It's intense, but not throughout the whole movie, and it is because they are in an intense situation, so the disagreements are much more extreme.
  • Some scenes with rioting and pillaging, danger implied, nothing explicit is seen.

Spoilers

The Parents Guide items below may give away important plot points.

Violence & Gore

  • Two older boys see an older man getting beat up. He is on the ground being kicked by the men. He is the father of one of the boys. They run up to him yelling, and the men run off. Throughout the rest of the movie, this man who was beaten is in bed and obviously has severe internal damage from the beating. He does not look physically bad, as in there is no blood or gore shown. He later dies as a result of this attack.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • In one scene, a man enters a house where a woman and her adult child and a baby are by themselves. The man says he doesn't want to hurt them, but they need to give him the flour. There is a food shortage, and he forcefully takes the food. The baby is crying, and it is a scary situation, but they are ok.
  • More sad than frightening, a dog that the main character takes care of dies of starvation during the food shortage. You see him trying to wake the dog, but the dog doesn't move, and then it shows him standing by the location where he buried the dog.
