Middle class execution !
srinivastarun21 December 2017
Nani has had a good nose for selecting scripts which enhance his abilities to perform and entertain the audiences. But with "MCA", he has tried to enter a tried and tested commercial format which partly entertains and mostly disappoints especially in the second half.

The movie is about a youngster who is forced to live with his brother's wife and in turn turns her protector from the evil forces. As routine the plot sounds, so is the execution. But Nani manages to entertain the audiences in the first half of the film with his trademark comedy timing.

The first half has it's moments with a cute love story between both the leads and scenes between Nani and Bhoomika which provide required comic relief. But when the movie takes an action turn after the interval bang which has been shot reasonably well, the movie loses steam and begins to falter big time in the second half. Plenty of entertainment could've been fleshed from the cat and mouse game between the hero and villain but the director didn't take much time to establish hero's "heroism" which completely weakens his opponent and thus makes us turn a blind eye towards him. Last 20 mins of the movie had some good twists and sequences which were not capitalized well. The characterization of the villain might have sounded good on paper but turned lackluster on screen. Debutante Vijay was mediocre as the villain. Bhoomika did a fairly good job as a strict government officer. Sai Pallavi did not get much to contribute to the main storyline but still managed to entertain in the screen space she got.

Sameer Reddy has beautifully showcased the city of Warangal and it's surroundings with his camera. DSP's music was barely average. Director Venu Sri Ram has stuck to his title so much that he gave a "middle class" half-baked product. Production values of Sri Venkateswara Creations are OK.

Overall, watch it once for the comedy, Nani's screen presence and a few action sequences.

Review By Kamal K

MCA is a film that starts off on an extremely light note. The brother-in-law stuck with the bhabhi he hates, but being forced to carry out household chores delivers a few laughs. So does the love track he has with spunky and beautiful Pallavi/Chinni (Sai Pallavi), who seems to know her mind and takes charge of the relationship even before Nani knows what hit him. Shaking things up in this saccharine sweet family drama is Shiva (Vijay Varma) who's introduced as the psychopath who murdered his friend when he was just 12 because he 'always likes to win'.

Things take a darker turn right before the interval and stay that way till the credits roll, with the film ending on a lighter note again.

Nani is good enough in his role as the middle-class man who values the relationships he forms. Apart from Nani, Bhumika has a major role and she makes a perfect comeback in a good role. Sai Pallavi plays her supporting role well

The basic drawback of the film is that there is no entertainment in the second half. The film gets quite serious as it is only a cat and mouse game that becomes the main agenda.

MCA' is good enough for a one-time watch, especially if you're a Nani fan or a sucker for family dramas.

Clean and decent movie

Totally loved it. Highlights family values.

Sister in law is equal to a mother.

Villain role has been too interesting. Very different. Ending is also good.

Sai pallavi's screen presence added to the beauty of it.

Nani as always has been fantastic. Lovely film.

Venu Sriram's rise into mass action zone is made watchable by Nani and Vijay Varma's screen presence.
SAMTHEBESTEST30 May 2022
Middle Class Abbayi (2017) : Brief Review -

Venu Sriram's rise into mass action zone is made watchable by Nani and Vijay Varma's screen presence. Middle Class Abbayi, aka MCA, was Venu Sriram's first mass action film, and he did quite a decent job in his debut. His first film, "Oh My Friend," was a romantic drama that was far superior to MCA, but pleasing mass audiences is a completely different job, and it's also a little difficult. Having a one-time watch film in this genre is more than enough to get a hit and settle oneself. That's what MCA did for Venu, and to some extent, it also cemented Nani's position as a part-time mass hero. MCA has a decent storyline that you can pass in one viewing without any headache. There is nothing illogical that we see in typical mindless Telugu masala flicks, and that, I guess, is too much to ask for in this genre. The average execution is somewhat problematic, but you enjoy most of the scenes despite their individable predictability. It's the story of a young man who tries to protect his sister-in-law, a transport official, from a dreaded goon who runs an illegal road transport business. In the meantime, he romances a girl and also forms a good bond with his sister-in-law, who acts as a silent guardian. The family emotions are put together in a pretty okayish manner here, and then there is that typical face off between a hero and a villain to make it an out-and-out massy family action drama. Nani, as Nani suits the role, but it's Vijay Varma who makes a great impact in his Telugu debut as well as his biggest role by that time. He is absolutely lit as the villain, and unlike other villains, he hasn't got any regular ideas of winning everything he wants. Sai Pallavi looks gorgeous with heavy makeup, and Bhumika goes on to deliver a steady act. Sriram's entertainer is a strictly okay affair, neither too good nor too bad. But there's nothing wrong with one-time viewing.
