Walter O'Brian is a mutant who lives on the margins, salvaging, trading, and...um...doing battle with pirates, though he's no Kevin Costner. This season his band of geniuses has been joined by their new neighbour, Florence (or as Costner knew her; Enola), who at first glance would seem to have a map to add to the teams potential, but seems destined to lead them to more danger. Given she's most famous for the aquatic adventure, it did seem likely there would be some references made of her history. They have a couple of scenes with a harpoon gun, and a couple other possible scenes, but it's not like there's any jet skis, etc. The sub story with Sly and his book is amusing, if a little obvious at times. It's a strong plot to move the team dynamic along and help add Florence's character to the group in the usual Scorpion life and death scenarios.

Pretty good episode except....

Warning: Spoilers
I like this episode. It is pretty good overall. However, there are a few problems. Flo should have said Marine Biologist not Biologist. I find it hard to believe that men of war could congregate that quickly. Why would a boat not particularly a fishing boat have so much vinegar on board? How come the boat catch fire with all the fuel surrounding it? Here is a big one. Happy has a Zippo. How come you never see here change a flint or put lighter fluid in it?

Patrick steals it

Warning: Spoilers
It is not the actual story that saves Scorpion but the additional parts like the endings and interaction , after Meghan, this was best because we saw the best of Cabe and what he is to the team . Cudos to Robert Patrick for a fine short performance, the ending shot with he beings asked to head the table was a flourishing touch.

Very funny And very emotional

Warning: Spoilers
This episode has a lot of humour in it. Walter's interactions with Florence are very funny and the bits with Cabe's therapy is very touching. The meal at the end always brings a tear to my eye.

Why so difficult? Also vinegar and freshwater... ?
torj_alfa3 January 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Great fun with the Scorpion team again, with a nice story to clean the ocean. But, as genius, why didn't they just brake off a big enough part they could walk on, in case of smaller bit breaking up. And then use the harpoon as a life line to pull them in? And freshwater and vinegar, is ONLY working on other type of Jellyfish (in the case of how lethal Portuguese warship is, I had to look it up once again). And therefore, as we all should know by a fact, this kind of Jellyfish, is NOT recommended to use freshwater and vinegar to clean it of. They should use seawater at first.

What a bunch of geniuses

This series is actually kind of enjoyable at times, but on the episode on 11/20/17 the writers really dropped the ball. A rescue helicopter was sent to rescue some team members in trouble at sea. Cabe gave the rendezvous map co-ordinates as 190 degrees North and 87 degrees West. Any idiot would have realized that lines of latitude only go as far north as 90 degrees. 87 degrees West is squarely in the middle of North America, not off the California coast. Even if you reversed the directions they are impossible. Longitude only goes as high as 180 degrees East or West. Come on, you have to get details like this correct.

C'mon get some of the science and geography right
daniel-jarrell26 November 2017
Warning: Spoilers
192 degrees north? Are you kidding? Even longitude only goes to 180. Whole plastic chairs as part of the great Pacific plastic formation? The plastic is tiny bits of plastic that are being ingested by sea- life. The jellyfish weren't man-of-war. The harpoon puncturing the steel hull of the boat when the rope wasn't elastic and wouldn't have had a lot of recoil.

You had a chance to make a statement, and just made it stupid.

They aren't biologists indeed... neither geographers.

Those jellyfishes weren't man-o-war. Those coordinates were silly, Cabe said 190 degrees north but latitude only goes to 90 degrees north or south (and longitude has a maximum of 180 west or north).

Entertaining but potential damaging to the understanding of relevant environmental issues
zpyoyepx22 November 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Warning this review contains spoilers about the plot of this episode and touches the science behind the plot of the show to explain why this episode was a missed opportunity.

The show is entertaining and I like the characters and this episode was no exception. It had all the action you like it to have, the new character was sort of interesting and they picked a serious and relevant environmental issue plastic waste in the oceans as a general theme of the episode. So far so good. I would have loved this episode if they would have managed to get their science right for all the good it could do for the prevention of more plastic waste.

They didn't instead they went for the following: Plastic in the ocean is nicely a concentrated patch of plastic at the surface becomes an walk-able and harpoon-able island when you spray it with the correct mix of chemicals. Just add the correct worms and they will safely digest the plastic island and leave only harmless substance. This all is brought in something that could be perceived as a a semi educational format.Strengthening some the popular believe that is already out there and creating the illusion that this is an easy to fix problem. Instead of showing the difficulty of the task to filter out all the small parts of plastic in the large volumes of water that are freely floating somewhere in the plastic soup. And completely negating idea that it is a serious issue that plastics don't decompose naturally into harmless components with implausible usage of the caterpillars that have only been reported to eat small amounts plastic when they where starving by a publication that has been challenged by a later (lesser known) study.
