Essentially a pointless movie...

The 2018 Japanese comedy "Cherî Bôizu" (aka "Cherry Boys") had potential, and it definitely sounded like it was a comedy worth watching from the synopsis.

However, the movie itself was somewhat of a swing and a miss from writer Daigo Matsui and director Ken'ichirô Nishiumi. Why? Well, because the storyline was actually a heap of rubbish. It started out okay, but quickly descended into a monotonous pace where the narrative was lacking comedy and was coming cringeworthy to sit through.

The characters were insanely unlikable as individuals and as human beings. I quickly started to have a sense of resentment towards the leading three characters - not the actors, mind you - but the characters, as they stumbled through the storyline and tried to become ready for raping someone.

Yeah, you read that right. They were planning to rape a local promiscuous girl. That was about the extend of the storyline written by Daigo Matsui. Sure, I haven't read the Manga, nor am I interested in doing so, if this is the contents of what is written.

The character gallery in the movie was atrocious. Not only were the leading characters despicable and loathsome, but the other characters in the movie as well were quite far out there, being promiscuous, prone to violence, and such. It was just all too much, and it ruined the movie.

And there was a whole lot of really unnecessary semi-visual lewd scenes. Sure, you don't actually get to see anything or the act themselves, but it is rather visually hinted at or shown with carefully select camera angles. And that was just something that sleazed up the movie unnecessarily.

"Cherî Bôizu" was a massive swing and a miss, and running at almost two hours, it is a really difficult movie to sit through. This is not a movie that I would recommend you waste your time, money or effort on. Some of us suffered through this rubbish, so you don't have to.

My rating of "Cherî Bôizu" lands on a two out of ten stars.
