Very Well Done
bryanwoolman17 November 2018
Warning: Spoilers
The selection of those honored is enhanced by secondary stories that make even more impact. An african-american, japanese-american, even a 4F soldier are among those featured. Extremely well done in all aspects. The first time I have rated anything a 10. Netflix, please continue the series.

Gritty, pure, unadulterated real life heroes in action.
chandanshivaramu11 November 2018
The range of protagonists is just awesome. Clearly told, no exaggerations, no filmy moments, pure real emotions. Thoroughly enjoyable and as brilliant as the Band of Brothers in execution.

i just couldn't stop crying
chandrakanth810 November 2018
This is probably the best documentary series i ever watched. the series is exactly what I've been looking for, i was always well fond of war movies, and this series portrayed some of the medal of honor recipients honorably (I'm waiting for a season 2) and what it's like to be on battle lines and the sacrifices you have to do to save your fellow man and even putting your life on risk to make it happen

i couldn't stop crying at times cause some of the scenes are amazing

A MUST SEE DocuSeries - FINGERS CROSSED FOR SEASON 2
luvclippy12 November 2018
This eight episode docu-series is much, much more than a typical documentary. You personally connect with each Medal of Honor recipient, as you see the reinactment of the acts that earned them the military's highest honor. These emotion filled episodes will bring you tears and show you the love involved and sacrifice too, in these types of actions of bravery & heroism. BY far the best documentary series I've ever seen. Just hoping that Netflix will allow more of these stories to be told in future seasons. GREAT JOB! Definitely a 10 star show!

Just Watch It
J-Baker173610 November 2018
This is for everyone. As a veteran myself, it hits home, but this can speak to everyone across the board of extraordinary people just doing what they knew to be right. I wish there was more out there like this. Please, just go watch it.

A must watch!

Excellent, excellent docu-series. These stories are about true heroes and are just so compelling. One Medal of Honor recipient's story is told per episode. Each one brought tears to my eyes. Please, Netflix, give us more!

Bring Tissues.

Okay, let me start by saying I never write reviews... but believe me when I say this, this is worth your time! You have to understand we are hearing stories about what someone actually did and boy are stories truly remarkable! It especially hits home if you have served or even know someone who has!

Powerful series!

Great series, that put that lump in the back of your throat. Heart filled touching stories that shows the length of what military members will do to protect their own.

Honarable man, befouled by turning this into a propaganda tool
knuddelholic28 November 2020
In general an interesting series idea but the presentation leaves a foul after taste in the mouth how many commentators in the episodes flog those actions to death with too much pathos.

Another point which felt quite weird was how the whole presentation was torn apart with the episode credits waaay too early and cutting the episodes pretty much in half like producing company 'Allentown Productions' felt those episodes more of a chore then a honor. The ceremony recordings were more touching and important then the on action focused re-enactment of the battle events.

Focusing on the action and delivering the ceremonies after the credits ruins to a big degree those actions of the recipients and belittles their actions by turning this into an action show instead focusing more on what kind of people they were and how they became those who made those often impulsive decisions which luckily led to a heroic outcome for them and their brother-in-arms.

I salute to the recipients and their families who helped them to make them those precious people but I distance myself of the presentation how this was handled by the production company.

These stories can never be forgotten
droche-4996610 November 2018
What extraordinary stories these are. They should be mandatory viewing of this series in high school history classes. War seems so distant to most of us and so easy not to think about the sacrifices being made by so many. Heroes truly are ordinary men doing extraordinary things.

Good story but to glorified
benjamintharin14 November 2018
All in all interesting but very slow paced and repeating over and over and over and over things that could have been said and showed in minutes. To patriotic for my taste, and glorifying war to much, the stories are tragic enough, i don't need sob music on every corner hammering it away for 50 minutes.

Doesn't do justice to the stories
nadblaster16 November 2018
Leave it to Netflix to take some truly incredible and unbelievably inspirational stories of real heroes and turn it into cheesy, padded-out and lowbrow television. In no way am I trying to besmirch the men they honor in this show but the lame acting, B-grade effects and overdone melodrama really do very little to highlight the stories. Frankly you are better off picking up virtually any book about Medal of Honor recipients because this does a pretty bad job.

Stories that should be known to all Americans. Thank you Netflix for giving us this documentary series. Most emotionally thank you to all these recipients of the MoH.

Interesting but has issues
gregdux17 November 2018
I'm only three episodes in but have found it overall fairly good. Like the maps/diagrams of the action they're talking about. Bit over the top jingoistic and schmaltzy but given the subject material and it's made for an American audience that's to be expected. Could probably shave about 15-20 mins off the episodes I've seen. Namely all the post action bits. Some dubious production values. The two WWII episodes I've watched were obviously filmed in the same locale even though one was supposed to be in Italy and the other Germany. Can just get away with it with the Italian episode but Germany is green with pine forests etc not brown and dry. What caused me to write this review (my first) was a picture used in the 3rd episode purportedly showing some WWII German soldiers in a trench waiting to defend the crossing of the Rhine. Yes they were German but they had AK47s and helmets of the GDR (the communist East German) so the pic was probably 20 years post WWII! Maybe I'm being overly critical with the previous issues but that's pretty lame.

Share the Burden
ross99320 November 2018
These are not stories of great overwhelming victory or triumph, these are stories of the most difficult day of each of their lives, because the medal of honor is earned in the darkest hour. By watching, absorbing, and empathizing with these stories, you feel the pain of these men, and allow them to recognize that they deserve to forgive themselves. The medal of honor itself tries to have this effect, it honors these men and acknowledges that their loss was justified and that their leadership against all odds was above and beyond the call of duty. You will see that this medal rarely accomplishes its goal and most of these men do not feel honor or accomplishment for what they have done, despite the fact they deserve too. That's why this show is so powerful. This documentary provides more for these men than that medal ever could. It provides real human support, from us the viewers, which is intangible and invaluable to their rehabilitation.

Just incredibly moving. Hear their stories. You will cry for their loss. Sharing the pride in their valor is uplifting, but sharing the burden of their pain is what make this series so unique and important.

Great......for the most part
kanjeep9 August 2022
Very nice seeing the stories that go with the medal. All of the episodes, except the 3rd, focused on the men and their sacrifices. The third episode focused almost entirely on racism. It was a great injustice to a man who served his country honorably. It's sad that they had to infect this series with the liberal agenda. Would have been an easy 9 if not for that episode. Semper Fi!

A disappointingly superficial treatment of such compelling material
CosmoFelani17 November 2018
Two confessions up front: One, I only watched the first episode; and two, that's because I had just finished watching Ken Burns documentary series on Vietnam. That made Medal of Honor seem like a stale Pop Tart served after eating a five-star filet mignon (sorry, that's the best I've got). I don't know how you can take something as dramatic as Sgt. Sylvester Antolak's one-man attack on a machine gun nest during the U.S. spearhead out of Anzio in WWII and make it feel unemotional, boring and meaningless. That was enough for me to give it a quick thumbs down and move on. The reenactment was unrealistic, slow-paced, poorly acted and plain boring. The panel of expert commentators provided surprisingly little insight into the events or the motivations of the participants, other than to fall back on the easy cliche of brothers fighting for one another, not for their country. The show even managed to make the comments from a modern Medal of Honor recipient look more like an NFL Films Top Ten football game review. The whole thing looked to me like cheap exploitation of some of the most profound human sacrifices. A shame, really.

...just...POWERFUL!
loganmorley12 November 2018
Bring a box of tissues, or a good bottle of scotch, and prepare yourself for an epic, EPIC retelling of true stories, well acted, with incredible interviews of family and fellow soldiers...which demonstrate the greatest levels of spirit and bravery America has to offer. This, right here, is a must watch.
