An HONEST review
nmalik-997593 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
3.5/10 for this utter BOREFEST. Again, I do not understand this new-age phenomenon of the directors and writers having a very workable plot, yet failing to develop it. Is it incompetence? Is it a lack of creativity? Or is it sadism? Tin & Tina presents a very shallow story without any details and without much outline. It's a concoction of randomness, nothing falls into place. The acting was decent. And I frankly did not understand the last scene - were the writers drunk or just stupid? Perhaps they were pissed at the production company. In the ending - the husband is having a conversation with his wife about a potential divorce, trying to convince her to not leave him, and all of a sudden, the power goes out because of the rain. Now, you'd expect that a normal person would prioritise his finding a solution to a tumultuous moment in his marriage, but this guy decides to casually go and fix the TV instead. He literally leaves in the middle of the conversation as he is giving reasons to his wife to stay with him - TO FIX THE TV. To add to the lack of human intellect, he does it during a storm. That pretty much summarises this movie. In conclusion, would I watch it for the second time? Nope. Would I recommend you to watch it for a first time? No, unless you are a sadist who thinks that time is a mere illusion.

Evil or holy kids (?)
kosmasp3 June 2023
No pun intended - taking things literally (verbatim or whatever you want to call it) is not always the right way to go about things. Trying to replace one hole with ... well trying to fill it ... can work, but it can also backfire.

Now having adopted two kids like that ... let's say they do not seem to leave an impression that would make me want to keep having them around. And that makes everything that goes on ... quite harrowing. It feels like the adults seem unable to understand that .. maybe they are in over their head ... on the other hand, maybe I am wrong and maybe the movie proves that too (?) ... well you'll be the judge if you dare to watch this through ... it is quite the ordeal to watch in my humble opinion.

Thriller movie about possessed religious children with pure souls

Thriller movie about possessed religious children with pure souls

Overall, the movie can be considered successful in portraying the innocence of children led astray by misguided religious adults. The film shows the adorable nature of the children juxtaposed with thriller scenes, although it doesn't explicitly depict horrifying scenes. The movie consistently explores the theme of children's innocence throughout, leading up to an open-ended final scene that leaves viewers puzzled about its interpretation. The film may not be highly entertaining, but it leaves room for various thoughts and interpretations in the viewers' minds.

Annoying...
Mehki_Girl28 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Annoying scene after annoying scene. The idea is to frighten the audience to death, not annoy them!

Two scrawny children holding a bag over her head and she can't do anything.

Children eviscerate the family dog and both shrug and clean up the mess. Not one conversation with the children. Not one visit to a psychiatrist.

Kids tie your pregnant wife to a bed and, oh well, it's kids being kids.

You leave your baby with a useless father and two psycho kids who want to baptize your baby, playing in a pool and you walk as slowly as possible and pick eggs and inspect each and every one as slowly as possible, No mother leaves their baby that alone for that long anywhere, anytime. But you do! You know the miracle baby you wanted so badly after losing twins literally in your wedding day.

Then you see them drowning your kid and you stand there for a full 10 second count before limping over to grab the baby. Sunny screen to Ashley useless dad to get him to move off his rearend. Just stand there watching,

Finally, you've had enough and drop off the devil's spawn back at the convent

But wait, you told the kids how to walk to the house. Okay, you forgot.

It takes the threat of divorce to make daddy go upstairs to see after your baby. You don't bother to go up, knowing he's useless. He's up there forever. You just wander about. Baby, last thing on your mind.

Nope, you start looking for the devil's spawn, slowly wandering about, not dash upstairs to check the baby.. Baby and hubby still a no show. Nope, you still wandering around in the dark. Don't call out to him. Don't scream you think the devil's spawn is in the house. Don't check on him and your baby.

Finally, you hear your baby cry. Oh, you finally remember you have an infant! Apparently, motherly instincts not so strong with this one!

Big eyeroll.

Two people with zero clue about being parents. I guess that was the horror. Someone said this should be called dumb and dumber, I agree.

Beautiful cinematography. That's about it.

Wanted to give 1/2 star...
pjkblue-359264 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
What a piss-poor movie, but like I always say... the cast and crew got a payday.

Kill the family dog?

No problem. Kids being kids.

Tie Mom to the bed prepped for some injection?

No problem. Kids having creative family time.

Storage box of crucifixes and other religious items?

No problem. Kids need a hobby.

See God by suffocating your sibling?

No problem. Kids were just playing.

This film is a total mess, poorly acted and terribly written.

Husband on fire...crawls to the front door...becomes even more of a walking blaze as he stumbles into the living room and doesn't she say "Keep out!"? Or some such line. So why does he burst into uncontrollable flames?

Oh, yes...how could I forget the "baby baptism".

This is an example of the way Netflix spends a-gazillion dollars for filmmakers to showcase crap.

Worst I've seen in a long time
JackUK197327 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Generally you expect the majority of horror films, which I assume this is, to be rubbish, but this is several levels worse than most. It really is a testament to how poor Netflix has become.

As an example, in one scene Tina says she can help her brother, Tin, see God, but the mother must stay seated while it happens. Tina does this by putting a bag over her brother's head, so he begins to suffocate. The mother rises to stop it but sits back down again when Tina tells her to. Would any sensible adult seriously sit there passively watching a child suffocate? The bag comes off, then they all throw jam around the kitchen laughing.

Absolutely bizarre!

Uncomfortable and an interesting watch. The pace is a good speed, the twins very creepy and the overall acting quite good. The low ratings are very hard to understand. It is a breath of fresh air for the genre, even if there is not really any deep plot or metaphor besides religious speculation and existence, however there are still interesting ideas and questions that are raised. Is it mind blowing , perhaps not, but I appreciate the art and the talent put into the film. I have not reviewed recently, but I was struck and confused by the low ratings, and wanted to speak up for the movie, especially when most new products on Netflix and other streaming is garbage.

Sigh
ommie-371749 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
SPOILERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just once, I'd like to watch a creepy kid movie that doesn't have a crappy father who ignores everything the mother says. I feel like this particular trope is so overused that it immediately ruins every movie.

First strike is him forcing her to adopt kids in the first place when she is clearly not in the headspace to do so.

This dad is so useless he literally sits there with his back to the pool while the satan's spawn drown his baby.

All this is after he gaslights her about the creeps trying her to the bed and trying to force feed her poison. And after they filet the dog.

Also, that is the biggest newborn baby I've ever seen.

Did I see something else?
brahmix5 October 2023
The low ratings and complaints regarding this stunning Gothic Horror Story, is unfair.

Sadly, I watched a 'dubbed' version which was a terrible idea.

That aside: The story starts quite depressing: death, loss and emotional trauma.

Enter the kids: innocent to the point of evil! Sweetly done, showing the absolute madness which can boil from imaginative, yet misguided minds.

The story, I think is simple, probably why so many find it 'too little', however, I think it is a rather pleasant Gothic experience.

The visuals are authentic, the setup for 1981, was convincing.

I can also see why some might find it annoying (the dubbed version voicing is... entertainingly off). The constant melancholy of the lead lady, will drive most to annoyance, but it is part of the personal drama, which ends in the final scene: perfectly.

I would only recommend to those who enjoy a bit of Gothic mystery and madness.

those creepy kids
LetsReviewThat2628 May 2023
Tin and tina is a bit of a disturbing movie. Which means its intentions are clear from the getgo. We already get a taste of whats to come once the bereved parents walk though the doors of the church and are greeted from above by the two children playing the organ. These are tin and tina. Super religious kids that dont know much about the real world. The acting was ok for the most part but i do feel like it couldve been a lot better. I wish they would stop killing the pet in these types of films and as we got to the end of the movie it did become a lot better. The horror was creepy and the way it built up was good,. So overall this film worked but also not.

Creepy Kids
ladymidath27 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I love Spanish horror movies and this is one of the creepier ones I have seen. A bride and groom have a tragic even on their wedding day, she suffers a miscarriage and is told she cannot have children. Her husband convinces her to adopt from the local convent/orphanage. They meet two albino children and they adopt them. The sweet faced boy and girl are very religious and it starts to create problems that escalate. This s where the movie really shines. The cast, particularly the kids are excellent, low key and intense. The movie is set in the early eighties and it has that real eighties feel. Gaslighting the wife, husband that does not listen and misses some very important clues and scary children. Throw in a baby in danger and it is complete. I was a little disappointed with the ending, but it did have one, so there is that. This is a good horror movie that really does ratchet up the tension and religious zealotry.

Cinematic birth control.
deloudelouvain2 June 2023
If there is one thing I hate in this world it's religions, certainly fanatics that can't stop whining about it. And kids, can't say I'm a big fan of them either. And that's exactly what this movie is about, two albino kids that go on and on about religion. The majority will find them creepy and I get that but I just found them annoying. Still I did enjoy watching Tin and Tina, it's good enough to watch one time, just don't expect much horror. From the cast I only know Jaime Lorente that played Denver in the immensely popular series La Casa de Papel (or Money Heist for the English title). The acting wasn't bad in this move although the irritating voices of the kids were a bit annoying to listen to, just like their characters were.

Stupid.
chad_a31 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
What a stupid movie. I tired to give it a chance but man oh man was this movie straight up dumb. These writers should be ashamed of themselves. The husband is a complete idiot. No one can be that dense. The kids killed the dog and the parents were ok with it because they didn't know what they were "doing"? Give me a break. Why did the mother continue on like everything was ok after they tried to inject her with poison milk? Worst of all the mother feels bad about abandoning the kids that tried to kill her and her child and then continues to still not be happy? It just get worse. Then husband catches fire in the rain outside and then goes inside the house where the house catches fire.... Would of ever seen this movie it it weren't for my wife and mother-in-law whom like this dribble.

Utter trash
richleamington30 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I disliked this from the very start, giving it two stars about halfway through before downgrading it to one star. It's pig swill and the director shouldn't be allowed near a studio again.

Why though? Here are some notes I made:

Unoriginal: Adopted children get taken from an orphanage and end up evil. Oooooo, someone give them a prize for that amazing concept that hasn't been done loads of times before. Leave off orphans you plebs.

Terrible dubbing: The dubbing is APPALLING. Everyone sounds like they have learning difficulties.

Insult to religion: I'm not overly religious but this insults religious people as much as it insults orphans.

Stupid nuns: The nuns are pathetic mind warped 2D parodies of actual people who may or may not (unreliable narrator) physically abuse the children.

Dumb parents: The freakish kids kill the family dog, tie up the mum and then nearly drown the baby. Thankfully the stupid parents get rid of the brats after the last one. The father is a mouth breather and couldn't possibly be an airline pilot.

Annoying children not helped to fit in: At best these kids are mentally ill victims of child abuse. I don't know also why they dress so weird in the film. Any normal parents would help them to blend in.

Just becomes boring and weird after the kids leave: When they kids leave the film gets dull. Also the guy gets on fire after being struck by lightning. What?

The ending: What absolute spoon wrote this bilge? Why in the name of all that is good and proper would you ever take those kids back?

It's pathetic and as I said, the writer and directors should never work again. At the end of the day the characters aren't real but these people "making films" shouldn't be allowed to.

Movie ruined by how dumb the characters are
alexandracufteac25 June 2023
And also, this is not horror. It's just cultish, obsessive religion. Not worth watching honestly.

Without giving spoilers, the characters are annoying. The decision to simply adopt those pretty big kids from a convent without getting to know them first, dumb. The movie can be sooo slow at times. The stuff happening towards the end of the movie has so much filler it's unbelievably annoying. I had to keep skipping because I did not muster the patience for it. And finally the ending is completely "wtf?".

No substance. Just a whole bunch of religious bible passages spewed and actions justified by them. The parents find the behaviors of the kids completely normal apparently since they keep finding excuses for them. Red flags flying furiously all around the screen but nah they just a little weird and doing kid stuff. Honestly it barely was a quarter into the movie and I was fed up with the parents. Such unpleasant characters. Not rooting for them at all.

The two kid actors are cute tho. About one of the only positives.

Children of the Corn
honeybloggs-6964830 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
It was a nod to Stephen King's Children of the Corn . The acting was great by the two kids and the entire cast were good too .

The director created an eerie atmosphere and suspense.. It was a novel idea in the aspect that religion can be misinterpreted and so can have negative results However the film displayed that miracles can happen too. What didn't make sense is that when the kids sedated the dog, then cut him up , took his heart out , put it back and then sewed him up again , the parents thought the kids had innocently made a mistake by interpreting the Bible literally . The Bible refers to death a lot so the kids at their age would know that cutting up a dog would kill it, yet in the film the kids didn't know that, which was ridiculous

The ending was totally predictable. However I've seen much worse films in the cinema , Meghan for example . Overall it's a fun horror to see with a bowl of popcorn .

kareemgrantus27 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The characters feel lifeless dumb and bold. They try to make the scary moments work but they do not and it is kind of the only good thing about the movie. It is trying to be amazing and it pushes that to hard even when the visuals are looking cheap. Spoilers now but you do not watch to watch this movie so save your self 2 hours of heavy trash. Worst horror movie of all time. At the end of the movie husband died I did not care he was the worst father and in the movie he is mostly an a hole/good parent. The mom was soooooo bad at acting in this movie and predictable and dumb at times. The kids acting was good and it makes the movie better even when they almost killed there baby brother.

unnerving
afurkankurt18 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
God I was so frustrated throughout the whole movie. The parents act incredibly stupid, there is definetly some bad writing at times. Like I would send those kids back to manastory the moment they messed up the kitchen let alone killing my dog and murdering kids from school and stuff.

The whole thing was kinda annoying tbh I was so worried they would do something to baby and I was extremly sad for the mother. Neverthless, I kinda liked the ending, every action the children did is open-ended; like we are not sure if they actually killed the kid or not, we are not sure if they were arsoning the hosue in the end etc. I liked that idea.

Plus acting and atmosphere was pretty good, good job from the kids. They were geniunly creepy, I couldn't predict what would they do next and they kept me on the edge of the seat the whole time. Overall enjoyable thriller.

Slow-paced but fascinating mysterious thriller
johannes2000-127 May 2023
It's a pity that it's advertised as a horror, this probably raises wrong expectations. Personally I would call it something like a mysterious thriller. It's a real slow-burner, the story evolves very gradually, so you have to give it some time to get into the flow of it. But if you can, you are in for a very sinister and suspenseful movie, carefully made, well acted and cinematographically beautiful.

A couple adopts two angelically looking orphans from a local monastery, who turn out to be raised extremely religiously, up to taking the words of the bible literally, thus constantly unsettling their new foster parents. Gradually their behavior gets more and more erratic, even perilous. Slowly the tension is being built up, and as in a Greek tragedy you can see fate closing in on the family, with a devastating climax as a result.

The setting in this classic villa in the middle of nowhere is impressive, the photography is beautiful. Milena Smit and Jaime Lorente do a great job as the wistful, anxious mother and the macho father, and Teresa Rabal is an impressive and imperious Mother Superior of the monastery. But it's the two kids who really blew me off my feet, they are absolutely amazing! One can only wonder how these young kids were made to act so convincingly in their extensive and often very weird and creepy parts.

not really bad

Warning: Spoilers
The acting and the characters are good but the story of the movie is not good, it's a huge disappointment.

There are things in the last part of the movie that doesn't make sense imagine there are so many ways to kill the characters in the movie and a lightning bolt in the END im really disappointed :(

this movie has potential like Wednesday Addam seris I hope there will be a part 2 and I hope there will be a deep understanding of the origin of Tin and Tina.

Not to brag, but there is something about this movie that I am not satisfied with.

I don't want to say it but it's very boring to watch.

Family Of The Damned.
meddlecore5 June 2023
A rather interesting film about one poor woman, and her lifetime of suffering.

After losing her leg in a tragedy, which killed the rest of her family.

She meets her fantasy husband.

Gets married.

And pursues the dream of having children.

Only to lose the twins she was carrying, and wind up barren as a result.

Fortunately (or what seems so at the time, at least), the couple is offered to take on a set of twins- who are straight out of Village Of The Damned- as adoptees.

Of course, they agree to do so.

Despite the fact that her husband is hesitant to (as a result of their creepiness).

A decision they might not live to regret...

Because the kids are obsessed with the bible.

Which they interpret in an extremely fundamentalist way.

Albeit, with a stretch of (a dark) imagination.

As they range from asphyxiating each other (to commune with God)...to indulging in straight up murder, in no uncertain terms.

Plotwise, things move along in a pretty straight forward way.

With the actions the kids take becoming more extreme as the film progresses.

Eventually, pushing their adopted parents to the point where they can't take it anymore.

Forcing them to send the twins back to the convent from which they came.

Though, not until after the couple have a child of their own (which seems to have made the two children jealous).

Despite the title, the film focuses, mostly, on the mental breakdown of Lola- the kid's adopted mother- played, amazingly, by Melina Smit.

Whom, by the end of the film, has gone full Wendy Torrance (even looking like Shelley Duvall, after she has lopped off all her hair).

In fact, it's less the creepiness of the kids that gets to you, as a viewer.

And, more the trauma she is forced to endure.

Leaving no doubt, that she must have inherited a curse, or something.

Because she is living a life of pure damnation.

Interestingly, the kids treat her husband like he is Jesus.

And her, as if she were the spawn of Satan.

Mostly, because her terrible luck has made her question God.

So it's kind of a surprise to see the twist at the end play out as a sort of unity of opposites.

With, what one can only assume to be, a Verdi-esque moment, being the final straw (based on the children's tweaked Shining-like abilities).

Which ultimately leads to an ending you were doubtfully expecting by this point.

Obvious influences aside.

The film is quite beautifully shot.

With all the actors doing a great job.

Particularly 10 year old actress Anastasia Russo.

Who stands out, as someone who will, no doubt, develop into an international superstar, one day.

The fact that you can already tell she has what it takes, is a testament to her superstar potential.

As for the film, itself, on the other hand...it took a while for it to win me over.

But that penultimate scene did it for me.

With the conclusion catching me off guard (a fresh change of pace).

Mostly, because it made me uneasy.

Which is how I know it was effective.

So, while, I don't think it's a film that everyone will enjoy.

Considering it's Rubin Stein's first feature and all.

It certainly gets a recommendation from me.

As I look forward to what he comes up with next.

5.5 out of 10.

Crime against film-making
toni-corelius4 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
A childless couple decides to adopt creepy albino twins who are straight from The Village of the Damned. And criminally insane.

The kids are really into the whole fire and brimstone reading of The Bible and "cleanse" the family dog by disemboweling it. Also, when the couple unexpectedly conceive, the newborn must be (nearly) drowned aka baptized in the swimming pool. And the school bully also suffers divine retribution from the murderous twins.

What I found most disturbing was the fact that the formerly atheist mother becomes a fervent Catholic in the end because of the killer kids! What kind of message does that send? Was this movie backed up by The Vatican?

I wonder whether the crew were forced or black-mailed into making this garbage? The director should be prosecuted.

Boring
johnspringer-954405 June 2023
I'm all for slow-paced, slow burn psychological horror; a movie doesn't need CGI action or jump scares every 30 seconds to be interesting. But in the context of horror an engaging movie should at least provide sympathetic characters making comprehensible decisions in an atmosphere of creeping dread. There's none of that here. Instead what we get are a pair of complete idiots who compound each bad decision with cringeworthy stupidity. Since the ostensible protagonists are ridiculous buffoons and the titular antagonists are clearly disturbed little creeps from the outset it's impossible to get invested. Some gory stuff eventually happens but it barely merits a shrug in the absence of relatable characters or any sense of stakes or tension.

Any character of this movie doesn't make any sense in any movie! Don't watch it. You will loose your valuable 2-3 hrs of life. Every single character is psychopath! They don't make any sense in any single scene.

Moreover it's so damn disgusting that you cant even get what's going on and why is it going on! The plot is so thin and nonsensical that it leaves the viewer questioning its purpose. Thank you.
