Warning: Spoilers
Talk about having mother-in-law problems, President Kirkland's mother-in-law could very well prove to be an albatross around his neck. What was her direct connection to Little?

When that boat becomes stranded during a storm at a hostile country, tempers could easily go northward. The guy who played the designated commander was terrific. With it all, he placed duty for country above his personal interests with inevitable tragedy occurring by the end of the episode.

The way Kirkman spoke to the guy was admirable, but the latter refused to obey a presidential order and literally went down with his ship to safeguard American secrets which were on board.

A Bit Better

A couple of issues. First is a destroyer that lost its way in a storm and ran into a barge, seriously damaging it. Negotiations with an unstable government. The second is the ongoing investigation into the death of a British agent. This is going to lead to some loose ends for the next episode. We also have the reappearance of Emily's father after 23 years. It has an interesting twist.

Damage Control
dncorp1 November 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Step One Assess Damages, so that you don't sink. Implement Damage Control procedures to insure ship does not sink.

Step Two locate casualties. Must have implemented Damage Control procedures first to not sink.

Step Three in the case of this TV Episode, U.S. Army Special Forces Divers, or U.S. Navy S.E.A.L. Divers to conduct repairs to the hull. Flown out by MH-47 or MH-60s, HH-60s and fast rope unto aft of Destroyer or land if MH-60s. If MH-60s or HH-60s used then also used to evacuate injured. The Arleigh Burke Class of Destroyer usually carries Two (2) MH-60s, there is a flight desk aft.

Once upon a time regardless of situation, it was required to have Sailors on desk of at least one fore, one aft, one starboard, one port, with binoculars and headsets as "watches", this did include during storms when they were literally fastened to the ship in a harness, there was a "Watch Officer" that routinely was responsible for them, changing shifts. Seems somebody forgot, these "Watches" as nearly a U.S. Navy Tradition and relying too much on High Tech, and Radar, as to why so many U.S. Navy Ships have been involved in too many collisions.

Two Ships

Warning: Spoilers
There are a number of real world things you can point to that this episode mimicked, but it was not directly ripped from the headlines and still managed to tell a good story. The producers of this show need to learn how to explore politics with originality and they kind of did that here, but it wasn't entertaining enough. This came off as a throwaway episode of The Last Ship rather than a fresh political drama.
