This is a very good show

I didn't like Jordan Klepper on the Daily Show, but in this new format he really manages to shine. He's not Colbert, but it's a very good start.

The writers are really good too, the mockery of Alex Jones wasn't simply funny but also precise and informative.

I'll keep watching.

An incoherent mess.... Edit That turned out to be great!

Warning: Spoilers
It is clear Klepper is supposed to be the new John Stewart. Trevor Noah is funny and does a reasonably good job, but nowhere as good as John Stewart. Unfortunately the daily show has become a platform for a Daily Anti Racism crusade, the intention of Noah and TV makers is commendable, but I am sorry to say that for international audience like myself the constant topic of racism (only the kind that applies to Afro Americans) is getting really boring! Again, addressing the subject is great and admirable. But day-in-day out, really? The message looses its power. Ask yourself, what if Luther King had a 'I have a dream' speech every day. People be like: Yeaaaaaaaah yeaah, whatever dude!

Also boring is ANOTHER show that is going to address the exact same issues as Colbert, Oliver, Maher, Jeffreys, Conan, Noah and the regular news. Therefore I think Klepper will have a hard time succeeding, overkill on comedy, overkill on politics. Too much. Just piles and piles of it on TV.

Klepper started off with a rather failed populist move, attacking Alex Jones. Steven Colbert has imitated him, not original! A very weak move. His co-hosts weren't really impressive either, semi funny skits. Nor was his guest interesting. The Pilot was a typical pilot wherein they tried too hard.

The overall content was delivered rather fast and rather sloppy. Kleppers'' interview skills, weren't impressive either, nor funny, nor intelligent. The 'opposition' concept was rather vague and blurry to me.

Surely, despite my disappointment, this is a pilot and there is plenty to work with. I'll be watching Klepper, he absolutely has the potential to become big. He just needs to find his own character, but absolutely polish The Opposition to something more than it is now.

EDIT: 06/10/2017 Seen a, or the, second show. Still rubbish! A cynical tirade is all it is. Simply saying the opposite of what you mean and making this known through a cynic tone, isn't comedy. It's simplicity.

EDIT 05/04/2018

Yeah. Klepper has found his way. I still feel his co-hosts are somewhat weak and like the Daily Show, overkill on the racism subject. It's wearing us out. The interviews are still crap. I stopped watching them. The comedy bit, hilarious though.

Very funny
robo-8301726 April 2021
I love this show. It is a shame it was cancelled. I think it is the funniest thing Jordan Klepper has done.

The satire was brilliant and biting - especially on guns (see 'Jordan Solves').

Jordan's '400% milk' joke still cracks me up just thinking about it. At it's best this show is on a par with Colbert.

Again: Very funny - thanks Jordan.

Exactly what we need

This show is the perfect replacement for Colbert Report. Since Colbert moved and lost host edge, and Jon left us with Trevor, I've been feeling like no one was doing anything noteworthy in Late Night. I was just about to go to bed at a decent hour, when this show began. It is everything I ever wanted and more. Klepper was well trained by Stewart, and it shows every night. It's that perfect Colbert combination of political commentary and pure comedy, and its very smart. Personally, I'm just a satire lover, and this fills the recent void of smart, sharp, silly satires that are always my favorite. If I can't have old Colbert, this is the next best thing.

This show has potential

Warning: Spoilers
The Opposition has its flaws, but I hope audiences give it a chance. The main flaw is the lack of originality. As others have mentioned, this feels like Colbert Report light. Klepper is making an effort to parody the right wing conspiracy theorist Alex Jones, but the parody itself is a work in progress and the concept is not very innovative, to say the least. But I would propose that an unoriginal show done well is better than an original idea poorly executed.

The other flaw is that the show is recent and relatively obscure. It doesn't have the juice to attract famous guests, but that doesn't mean that the guests it does have are not interesting. I hope the show is able to make the interviews informative and make it less about who the guests are and more about the ideas they espouse and the insight they can provide. For example, I thought the recent interview with Rob Riggle was very well done. The ability to do so consistently rests largely with Klepper and his skill to make the segment into a conversation that gives guests an opportunity to open up, rather than just a rushed clowning act with an extra.

In addition, this show has a challenge of competing with many other like shows that have a go at discussing political news in a satirical and humorous manner.

All this being said, I do feel like this show has potential. It makes up somewhat for its flaws by having a talented cast and good writers, who are able to induce subtlety into their jokes. The show needs to focus on execution, as well as finding new dimensions that will separate it from the rest.

I already find it more enjoyable than the Daily Show with Trevor Noah and Full Frontal with Samantha Bee. It doesn't have that self-righteous, pompous, preachy feel to it. It typically makes fun of ideas and not people. It is not vicious in a futile attempt to be edgy. I hope it stays away from becoming propagandist and remains in the comedy realm, a realm when all parties are equally liable to be ridiculed for their foolishness, incompetence, and intolerance.

I think this show has something. I will continue watching and hope others give it a chance as well.

Was Never Going to Work
Remingtontr6 December 2017
Part of the sad genius of Alex Jones is that he's so crazy that parodies simply don't work. Anything that you try to emulate or make seem like no person could possibly ever think of such a thing, there's a video of Alex saying something more ridiculous (only with much more charisma and raw moments of insanity). When it comes to the type of character Kleppeer is portraying, it just doesn't have the authentic feel of someone who is truly unhinged like Jones.

Love it!

I've watched the show from the beginning and look forward to it every night! Great writing and the "journalists" have perfect delivery. I enjoyed Jordan Klepper on The Daily Show and I'm so glad he got his own show. Keep up the great show!

They dumped @Midnight for THIS????
lotekguy-17 November 2017
Welcome to the comedy equivalent of a Colbert Report cover band, playing at a small-town Holiday Inn lounge. Klepper is no Colbert, though he's trying an overly similar shtick. His supporting cast of "reporters" is far below the talent level of Larry Wilmore's former cohorts who thrived in that time slot until another curious, lamentable cancellation by the network.

Besides the impossible task of matching Colbert's genius for spoofing conservatives by pretending to be one, this show suffers for another reason apart from talent and originality. When Colbert came up with "truthiness", it was a sharp lampoon of nascent cultural and political tendencies. But now we're fed a steady diet of blatant disregard for facts; claims of "fake news" for anything that conflicts with one's beliefs/agenda; and willful creation of propaganda, from home and abroad; from the highest levels of government and major media. In this climate, that vein of satire can't be as funny or pithy. Klepper's is another vain voice in the wind.

Admittedly, the show has improved since its awkward first week, but it still lacks punch and consistency. Nothing would please me more than continued tweaks that would allow me to raise its rating score. Well, that's not true. I'd be even happier if they brought back the two superior shows mentioned above, with or without this one. Even as a Midwestern white guy nearing 70 (about as far from Hardwick's and Wilmore's demographic as one can get), I never missed an episode of either. Even though I wasn't hip enough to understand all the references, what I got was gold.

C'mon, Comedy Central. As your excellent addition Jim Jefferies says at the close of his shows, "We can all do better." I hope your programmers are paying attention. You shrewdly revived Futurama; Do the same for these other worthy offerings that deserved longer runs.

Jordan Klepper at his best
RobbieRedeyez19 January 2020
I loved this show , i wish it would still run today in 2020 . As Jordan is one of Trumps biggest supporters , you know all the 1 scores be from humourless democrats ........ Very good cast along Jordan , Tim Baltz and Kobi Libii my favs , but i liked all the supporting cast . Alongside the concept of this show , wich in my eyes worked very nice , i was always impressed how he managed the concluding interview with a guest to be very entertaining and throw in some good questions as well . I had maybe 2 times i found it didnt work that well , all the other times i find Jordan did this excellent . I was really disappointed when this show was stopped . There surely was room to continue the fight as long as Trump is in office . I live in europe , i dont know the time slots and programming, in other words the support by the Comedy central channel , but i imagine this was not ideal. Then need keep in mind , people that hardly follow the news \ politics , or are from the " wrong " politcal party , will not be able to fully appreciate this show. At times a channel must support a show for its quality and not only mind the ratings . But the choice is made to rather air a show that has less quality . but more viewers . I was bit annoyed by the explanation of comedy central like the show did not work , and now Jordan Klepper would be better in an own show going somewhere on location , sorry to say this decision by comedy central did not work out at all . For this type of show the rewatchabilty is very high . I wish they brought back this show . In my view this show should never been stopped and maybe at some time , in future , change the concept and name of the show , but keep this cast together . Too bad comedy central choose not to do so .

Poorly conceived
cherold29 September 2017
I've only seen the first episode, and I feel like that's enough. It's not just that it had a rough start - The Colbert Report took a bit of time to get its sea legs - but that it feels like a misfire in every way.

The basic premise is that Jordan Klepper is playing an Alex Jones-style conspiracist. There are two issues that show up right away. First, it's awfully similar to the premise of the Colbert Report, which was Colbert as Bill O'Reilly, and second, Klepper is the wrong person to play the part.

Klepper, (who was good on the Daily Show) is simply not able to project the intense, insane incoherence of cynical paranoiacs like Jones and Tomi Lahren. Instead, he comes across as a smug frat boy. He would be well suited to play a slick troll like Milo Yiannopoulos, but he is unable to capture the essence of Jones the way Colbert caught the essence of O'Reilly. Instead, he seems like an "east coast liberal media elite" trying, and failing, to play a character.

The other problem is that the first episode just wasn't funny. It jumped here and there with no focus and felt like it wasn't sure what it wanted to be, and the various "reporters" did little shticky bits that felt like amateur theater.

Because of all this, I don't see much room for growth. Klepper is saddled with a concept he can't pull off. It seems unlikely he could just reverse course now, and I don't see him getting a handle on the character he presumably chose to play.

At the end of the episode, I simply thought what I thought when Trever Noah took over the Daily Show: Why not Jessica Williams? How does she not have a show? Did she get in a fight with a bigwig at Comedy Central? I just don't get it.

Parody of a conservative talk show
WatchesHumans8 November 2017
Jordan Klepper is a very smart and quick comedian. This show kind of comes off as a kitschy version of the Colbert Report but in the style of the Daily Show, but it works because the cast is very talented. Unfortunately it's not in the prime time slot and it's a less accessible than what precedes it so I'm not holding out much hope that it will stay on the air for very long, which would be a shame.

Painful to Watch
raymondguy-0016613 January 2018
~ This show tries so hard to be funny and poignant but is neither. The whole nyah-nyah, I am so much brighter than you schitck is not only over done, these shallow skits offer nothing revealing unless the viewer is a total dolt. ~ The parade of guests (many I imagine are writers) is also painfully unfunny.

What the daily show should be.
eliphillips7729 November 2018
Hilarious, way less biased, comedy with a side of informational news. Jordan Kleppers "The Opposition" and John Olivers "Last Week Tonight" are great, and a staunch reminder of what the daily show use to be and still could be. Great work!

Seriously...those idiots actually think they are gaining information and insight from a scripted, terribly unfunny 'comedy' show.

It's as low-level as you can possibly conceive.

Waste of your time!
dean24926 April 2018
Watched this & it's literally about as funny as catching a cold. If you're in to people just ripping other people to bits, without even being remotely funny, then this is the show for you! Without being counterculture, you're NOT going to be funny or get any laughs as it's just drab and dreary to say the best. 1/10

Running out of ideas in Hollywood
crazychris-8998422 June 2018
Liberals making fun of conservatives? Tried and true, but the supply is greater than the demand... How about a liberal posing as a far right lunatic, making fun of conservatives? Great Scott!
