Those who don’t follow professional wrestling may not appreciate just how tough and grueling it is. It isn’t enough to be on the road 200+ days a year, getting dropped on your head or your back every night, dealing with injuries, losing your spot on the roster, and worse. If you’ve seen films like The Iron Claw, The Wrestler, or the old Beyond the Mat documentary, you know that professional wrestling is grind like no other.
But the other aspect that goes underappreciated is how much wrestling relies on acting. If you have any hope of making it big, it isn’t enough to be able to do a tope suicida or Texas Cloverleaf on the way to a 5-star mat classic. You have to be able to act your role, day in and day out. Often, you have to act live, in front of an audience of thousands,...

Kevin Hart just can't seem to stop making stuff. The comedian can be found everywhere right now, from his Peacock talk show to his standup specials, and of course, Netflix. The biggest current streaming platform has hosted many a Hart-led project in recent years, and most of them have kind of come and gone without too much fanfare. Which is a shame because, at one point, the man convinced the great Wesley Snipes to appear alongside him in "True Story," a limited series partly based on Hart's own experiences. "True Story" topped the Nielsen streaming chart but, as the Chicago Tribune surmised, it sadly "lack[ed] any depth beyond what Snipes is bringing to it."
Now, Hart's at it again, this time with a new film helmed by "Straight Outta Compton" director F. Gary Gray that looks ... similarly kind of ok. In late 2023, the "Lift" trailer arrived, promising a $500 million...

When the "Frasier" revival was first announced there was a series of inauspicious developments. First, no one from the original series, including Niles actor David Hyde Pierce, wanted to return for the reboot, which left just Kelsey Grammer to reprise his role as the lovably stuffy psychiatrist. Then, Grammar himself, who was coming off 2020's incomprehensibly bad "Money Plane," added to the general air of concern surrounding the show by voicing his not-so-modest opinion that Frasier alone was the key to the original sitcom's success.
This would have been disquieting enough by itself had there not already been a general sense that "Frasier" 2023 was yet another nostalgia play in our nostalgia-mad monoculture. Add all that together and the build-up to the show's debut was far from the joyous and triumphant celebration that fans of the original sitcom no doubt hoped would accompany the return of their beloved Dr. Crane.

As Kelsey Grammer says in his 2020 low-budget action movie Money Plane, “Whatever you want to wager on, the money plane has you covered. You want to bet on a dude f*cking an alligator? Money Plane.”
Somehow, John Oliver, on his latest episode of HBO’s Last Week Tonight, managed to use the film to highlight the absurdity of abortion laws in the U.S.
The British comedian spent the majority of Sunday night’s episode discussing the current situation involving abortion following the Dobbs decision, particularly as it pertains to a number of local elections coming up this week.
How did he connect the dots? The money plane is much like floating abortion clinics, an idea proposed to get round some states’ making abortions illegal.
“Lawless territory, no rules, anything goes. It’s not only a foolproof plan, but it’s also the literal premise for the movie Money Plane.

When "Money Plane" came out in 2020, it was clear that all of our lives would never be the same. A cheesy heist film starring WWE superstar Edge and Kelsey Grammer with B-movie action and a C-movie script, "Money Plane" changed the way we all saw cinema. Unfortunately, Grammer clearly could have used a trip to a real life money plane, as he's now set to star in Paramount+'s "Frasier" sequel series.
Throughout the '90s, Frasier Crane and his wacky family and associates afforded us all a chance to laugh at the upper crust of our society -- who, it turns out, have most of the same petty hang-ups that us regular folks do. The show was massively successful, lasting eleven seasons and racking up five Emmys for Outstanding Comedy Series.
Normally, I'd be quite cynical about the prospect of following up any sitcom almost twenty years after the original ended.

Gravitas Ventures has acquired U.S. and Canadian distribution rights to Too Late, a horror comedy that marks the debut feature from director D.W. Thomas and writer Tom Becker. Alyssa Limperis (Aunty Donna’s Big Ol’ House of Fun), Ron Lynch, Will Weldon (This Isn’t Happening), Mary Lynn Rajskub, Fred Armisen, Jenny Zigrino, Jack De Sena (Avatar: The Last Airbender) and Brooks Wheelan (SNL) star.
Set in the Los Angeles indie comedy scene, the pic centers on Violet (Limperis), who works a thankless job as the assistant to Bob Devore (Lynch), famed comedian and host of the live variety show Too Late. But what only Violet knows is that Bob is a monster both literally and figuratively. Resigned to her fate, Violet is caught by surprise when she meets aspiring comedian Jimmy Rhodes (Weldon) and sparks fly.

It has been a rough year for me. While there has been sublime highs, my year has been defined by months of my girlfriend’s hospitalization and the overwhelming feeling of despair that potentially losing the love of your life brings. Without any of my normal comforts due to the pandemic––mainly the brilliance of being able to lose myself in a cinema––I’ve embraced the beauty of movies even more than normal. With nothing to do but wait in an empty room for news about her health, I’ve seen a lot of films from this year, some of which have helped delight, move, and heal me through the worst year of my life. It’s a testament to all of these that even with my mind not being in the right place, they’ve all left a permanent impact.

Perhaps the most ridiculous movie of 2020, Money Plane is a great example of a movie being green-lit based solely on the star power of its cast. Starring Adam Copeland (WWE’s Edge) in his first lead role and featuring Denise Richards, Thomas Jane, and Kelsey Grammer as the bad guy — you know this will be an entertaining film… if nothing else. Grab your popcorn and prepare for takeoff because today we’re jumping on board the Money Plane.
The direct-to-vod movie hit home TV screens on 10 July 2020 with a premise of a heist-like caper at 10,000 feet. So, what is a ‘Money Plane’ anyway? I’m so glad you asked. The creatively-named ‘Money Plane’ is a secret “casino” in the air that...

This past summer’s VOD Lawrence Brothers sensation Money Plane marks a bit of a digression as a recommendation from this fan. It falls into one of those very lovable subcategories of critical appreciation this viewer likes to call the “Dumb Action Movie.” This cost-effective, near-camp shoot-em-up confection cheerfully weathers its budgetary and technical constraints to triumphantly become nothing but a good time.
The pitch: Expert thief and reformed gambler Jack Reese (star wrestler Adam “Edge” Copeland) and his crew of cunning co-conspirators are commissioned by two-timing tycoon The Rumble (a gravel-voiced Kelsey Grammer) to rob an illicit, high-stakes airplane casino, where a caravan of big money bettors gambles over a litany of cruel and unusual punishments to be doled out on hapless victims on the ground. Recently, the gang at How Did This Get Made? covered this summer’s most over-the-top and Snakesonaplane-ish action film: Money Plane. With less than three weeks before U.S. theaters reopen August 21, major studios have slowed their PVOD releases. With the promise of reopening comes a shot at a profitable theatrical life, but the PVOD revolution continued apace with Liongate’s “The Secret: Dare to Dream.” It immediately reached as high as #1 on VOD charts on Friday.
The film is the very definition of a high-concept presale: A self-help book published in 2006, “The Secret” was an Oprah Winfrey Club title that sold 30 million copies. Directed by Andy Tennant (“Hitch”), it stars Katie Holmes and Josh Lucas. Gravitas Ventures and Roadside Attractions acquired it last November, and planned an April theatrical release. After the theaters closed, it moved to Roadside partner Lionsgate, which has a dedicated VOD division. It opened July 31 on PVOD at $19.99.
On FandangoNow, it landed immediately as #1 and holds the slot for the full week, despite having only three days of release.

With Warner Bros. vacating its August 12 worldwide release date for “Tenet,” we’re still many weeks away from any approximation of normal business. Meanwhile, the VOD world continues apace with Rod Lurie’s Afghanistan war-set “The Outpost” leading the way. Now in its third week, the Screen Media title remains at #1 at Apple and Spectrum.
Perhaps even more impressive: “Outpost” is #2 at FandangoNow, which ranks by revenue — and Lurie’s film has a non-premium price of $6.99. Even outside a theater, some of its truisms remain — never underestimate the appeal of a military-themed film. In first place at FandangoNow was “Trolls World Tour,” which recently reduced its price from $19.99 to $5.99.
Among other recent premium VOD titles, the best showing this week is “The King of Staten Island” at #2 at Amazon Prime. However, there’s a growing trend for some more specialized titles to pop up. “John Lewis: Good Trouble,” the acclaimed documentary about the late Rep.

Embracing its risible premise with admirable intensity, and only one eyebrow raised, Money Plane aims to defy gravity by sending a gang of robbers into the skies at the behest of Kelsey Grammer. Heading for release in July, Money Plane stars Adam Copeland as "a professional thief with $40 million in debt and his family's life on the line." To repay his debt to someone called "The Rumble" (that would be Mr. Grammer), the thief "must commit one final heist - rob a futuristic airborne casino filled with the world's most dangerous criminals." I confess that I am entirely unfamiliar with Mr. Copeland's work with WWE, but he and his gang are surrounded by experienced actors, especially Grammer and Thomas Jane, which lends the project...

"It's a legend in the underworld... a bulletproof casino in the sky." Quiver Distr. has debuted a new official trailer for Money Plane, a crime heist thriller from actor-turned-filmmaker Andrew Lawrence making his directorial debut this year. Adam Copeland (known as "Edge" in the WWE) stars as a professional thief named Jack Reese, and with $40 million in debt and his family's life on the line he must pull off one final heist - rob a futuristic airborne casino filled with the world's most dangerous criminals. Sounds cool, right? If only it looked any good. The film also stars Denise Richards, Kelsey Grammer, Katrina Norman, Patrick Lamont Jr., and Thomas Jane. The concept for this is pretty cool, but it's yet another of these dime-a-dozen terribly cheesy action films they're making way too many of these days. But it still may be fun. Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for Andrew Lawrence's Money Plane,...
