The infamous arm tattoo was actually painted on Nina's arm. However, the paint began to melt due to extreme heat, so in some shots traces of paint from it are clearly visible on the back of Nina's seat as she presses her tattooed arm against it to climb on top of the seat.
The video was shot near Mojave Desert in three days. The temperature would rise up to 110 degrees (43 °C) during the day, so the band's singer Nina Persson, who stars in the video as the joyrider and comes from Sweden where temperatures that high are unheard of, needed oxygen several times throughout the filming to avoid collapsing.
The song became famous thanks to its controversial music video that MTV constantly played (albeit mostly in its censored form) as well as its prominent use in the popular racing game Gran Turismo 2 (1999). The Cardigans' album that the song is from is also called Gran Turismo.
To avoid television censorship in certain countries such as the US, five versions of the video were made. The main difference between them is the amount of footage featuring joyriding, car crashes and death scenes. The ending is also different. The versions vary from the heavily censored one featuring only shots of the girl riding her car to the uncut one featuring some gore. There is also a more humorous version.
The car Nina drives in the video is a dark blue 1974 Cadillac Eldorado convertible.
