This article contains some spoilers for Spider-man: No Way Home
Tom Holland, Zendaya, and Jacob Batalon have just made one of the highest-grossing movies of all time! What are they going to do next? Well, the answer probably isn’t “Go to Disneyland,” because Disney has likely already brought their biggest money-makers to the happiest place on earth. But the talents behind 2021’s most popular movie Spider-Man: No Way Home certainly have a lot of good work ahead of them!
Tom Holland
Before swinging into Captain America: Civil War as Spider-Man, Tom Holland impressed viewers by playing Billy Elliot on stage and a teenager surviving a tsunami in J.A. Bayona’s The Impossible. Holland’s natural charm and youthful wit made him a pleasing screen presence. But as Peter Parker graduates high school and moves onto the real world, it’s clear that Holland is ready for more complex and adult roles.

It was only a matter of time before someone named a horror movie after FrightFest. Unfortunately, this dismal effort (also known as American Fright Fest) from director Anton Novakovic isn’t worthy of the festival that bears its name. In fact, it’s so bad that it makes the similarly themed, similarly titled and similarly not very good Blood Fest (also released this year) look like a masterpiece by comparison.
Set in smalltown Somerton, Pennsylvania (“The safest small town in America”), Fright Fest centres on washed up, drug-crazed horror director Spencer Crowe (Dylan Walsh), who’s hired to create a live action Halloween event by vote-hungry Mayor Fowler. Exclusive: Lifetime continues to cast its telefilm about a shocking case of child abuse that leads to matricide. Emily Skeggs is set to star as broken-bad daughter Esme opposite Marcia Gay Harden in Love You to Death, based on the true story of a controlling mom and her seemingly sick child that ends in a murder no one could have predicted.
Meanwhile, Tate Donovan will play Travis, Esme’s estranged father who tries to reconnect with his daughter, despite her mother’s objections.
Your logline: Camile (Harden) and her child are well known in their community: Esme as the sickly, childlike, wheelchair-bound daughter and Camile as the perfect caretaker and mother. No genre is able to celebrate itself like horror. Plenty of comedies and dramas and sci-fi movies are good—even great—but rarely are they ever about their own genres in the way that horror movies can be. Case in point: Blood Fest, the latest effort from writer/director Owen Egerton (2015’s Follow), a movie that’s as much a horror movie as it is about celebrating why we love horror movies. This is a movie focused on a bunch of horror fans, made by a bunch of horror fans not content to make just one type of horror movie, so instead they make every type of horror movie.
Dax (Robbie Kay) is a horror-obsessed teenager whose mother was murdered by a deranged slasher movie fan when he was a kid. As a result, his dad (Tate Donovan) has forbid him from having anything to do with the genre, including...

Produced by popular YouTube outfit Rooster Teeth, Blood Fest aims to follow in the footsteps of self-aware meta horrors like Scream and Cabin in the Woods. Unfortunately, while there’s no doubting the filmmakers’ evident love for the genre, the end result isn’t nearly as funny or as clever as it thinks it is.
After a generic slasher movie prologue in which a young boy sees his mother get killed by a masked maniac, we’re introduced to horror-loving Dax (Robbie Kay) and his best buddies Sam (Seychelle Gabriel) and Krill (Jacob Batalon), who are desperate to attend horror festival Blood Fest, against the wishes of Dax’s strict father (Tate Donovan), who blames the genre for his wife’s (i.e. Dax’s mother’s) murder in the prologue.

Blood Fest is a horror-comedy from writer/director Owen Egerton. The film treads a well-worn path as three geeky film fans attend a horror convention in the woods, only to find themselves fighting for their lives when actual monsters attack and the 'Blood Fest' truly begins.
Despite spirited performances from the young cast, some slick direction from Egerton, and lots off quick-fire gags, the film ultimately struggles make much of an impact. The overall impression is one of a kid in the playground who really wants to be your best friend, but in the process comes across as desperate and annoying.

Blood Fest aims to be a self-aware meta-horror comedy in the vein of Scream or The Cabin in the Woods, but where those films succeeded in their attempts to lampoon the genre, Blood Fest fails, making for a rather negative viewing experience that just doesn’t know when to quit. A product of YouTube juggernaut Rooster Teeth, Blood Fest sees Dax (Robbie Kay, Once Upon a […]...

It must be noted that if you're going to title your film Blood Fest then you will have certain expectations to live up to. There must be a festival, for one. And it must be bloody. Fans flock to a festival celebrating the most iconic horror movies, only to discover that the charismatic showman behind the event has a diabolical agenda. As attendees start dying off, three teenagers with more horror-film wits than real-world knowledge must band together and battle through every madman, monstrosity and terrifying scenario if they have any hope of surviving. A deliberate...

After experimenting with his form of boundary-pushing, cinema-as-memory films to great, succesful lengths with his last three narrative features–not to mention Voyage of Time, which we’re still awaiting an actual U.S. release for–Terrence Malick will return to more of a traditional script with his WWII drama Radegund, hopefully releasing later this year. But first, after splicing in avant-garde and experiential touches with his last few films, he’s making the natural step into virtual reality.
Premiering at South by Southwest Festival–where he gave a rare public talk last year–on March 13 is the Vr experience Together, which is directed by Malick and shot by cinematographer Rodrigo Prieto (Silence, The Wolf of Wall Street, Brokeback Mountain). Clocking in at 5 minutes and 46 seconds and featuring music by Simon Franglen, see the synopsis below, as well as the first look above.
“Together” is a Vr experience about the power of human connection.
