Mediocre

Overlong, repetitive, pedantic, prosaic, superficial.

2 millennia ago Plato determined that the best medium for his theories would have been the literary dialogue form. Nowadays, video directors like Martone, think that it's a good idea to make a 2 hours movie with 20 minutes of bodies doing hippie things plus 20 minutes of people arguing with each other about their views (which obviously represent the writers' irrelevant perspectives on the world). What about having images, sounds, the editing or the flow of events as your tools to communicate something? Nah... Martone likes to be direct on such overly important topics: let's just have the actors tell everything as if we were on a talk show (or the radio..)..

The only redeeming factors are - unsurprisingly and depressingly - the photography (guess what? one of the most iconic and beautiful tourist destinations..) and the natural beauty of the young actors.

Somehow I've seen this beauty twice.

The shark survives because she can't stop. Stay too long and you will be lost. Lost to another, lost in love or lost to war. Fine the shark is, solitarily.

---------ok, here's more-------- The island and it's history are real for the time period. The plot is simple and strait forward for a movie that opens with...

NARRATOR This island appears and disappears constantly,

and everyone's view of it is different.

In this world that is too well known,

it's the only place that is still virgin and which always waits for us,

but only to slip away again.

BROTHER Did you find the goat?

OUR HEROINE Where had it got to?

Made to unlock religious self suppression?
mike-c-b25 January 2021
The overall theme is religious, with high impressions of Jesus and the Garden of Eden. Many in strict religious groups may completely strike off anything to do with nudity forgetting the idea of innocence and freedom in the Garden of Eden, so this film is centered around that - innocence, humble suppers, running free.

It's not modern in the way it's made, there's no meaning beyond what you physically see. It's almost a holy picture book.

The dialogue and characters are not really followable because the actors are living in a pretense of grand holiness. No one is shown working hard to acheive something, no one is using the strong points of their personality in a social setting. A great example of the Garden of Eden in modern life is a movie called De Patrick (2019).
