Re-watch thoughts

Warning: Spoilers
I think this is one of the best episodes this season, it's not really a favorite of mine because it's rather too depressing, but writing-wise, it is suburb! this episode could be titled the life and death of Robin, such a unique character, she sees time in a non-linear fashion, past, present, future are jumbled in her mind, so she warns of people deaths after the fact or she tells people info that they won't need for years!! the flashbacks were quite powerful as we get a glimpse of what our team would look like in the future and it is sad! it was confusing the first time I watched it because I didn't catch the loop idea until the last flashback (when Fitz mentions it), but when I thought about it, it makes sense. Though I have spent way too much time trying to explian it to my sister so perhaps it's not as understandable as I think it is, that said, I love that the show took this approach to time travel, framing it as a series of events that keep repeating but the agents experience them out of sequence, sort of makes it harder to follow but more interesting than things we have seen a million times before! I gotta say, Ming Na was great this episode, seeing May be a mother figure to Robin was so unexpected, but Ming pulled it off and by the end of the episode I was so invested in that relationship I cried! Also shout out to Mack and Yoyo, as far as B plots go, they had very cool fight scenes, and they balanced out the episode! One more thing, while I don't think Voss has the right to off Daisy, I totally understand where he is coming from, I just wish he didn't kill Deke's dad, kinda hope Deke got to meet him, I was sad we didn't get to see that!

The Last Day: Season 5 is still trying...
LorenBieg20 January 2018
When Fitz returned, this series became rambunctiously fun again. This episode takes a turn back towards the beginning of the season with an over-emphasis on the defeatedness of the humans who have survived the destruction of earth and subsequent Kree occupation. Answers start coming to the team through the enigmatic Robin, a mysterious woman who recognizes May at the end of "Together Or Not At All". She is the Seer Fitz met in Rewind and ties the two times together. Will the S.H.I.E.L.D. crew be able to return to present day? How does Quake become "The Destroyer Of Worlds"? Can they prevent the destruction of earth? Clues have taken long to emerge, but some needed information is finally coming to light.

This episode moves slowly in places. The time spent on ancillary characters that don't necessarily move our heroes stories anywhere is distracting from what makes this show great, S.H.I.E.L.D. agents with extraordinary powers struggling through personal and ethical dilemmas. For instance, even though it was obvious that the Framework was bound to be defeated, the character stories involved in how it occurred were interesting an personal. The most interesting thing about Fitz this season is the effect the Framework had on him last season. Season 5's scenario is different because the outcome is almost certain and the leading characters are not growing or learning anything along the way.

The flashback versions of the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents are strangely out of character, which is supposed to create dramatic tension, I guess? Problem is, there's no explanation for it all, other than "things must be really really bad" for them to be acting this way. It's a relief to see Fitz and Simmons enjoy some happiness, though I have the feeling it could be yanked away at any second. Again. My favorite quip is Mack's reference to the Kree as "The Blue Man Group". So very, very great. More of that, please?

I watched this episode primarily because the serialized nature of the series means if you miss one episode you're lost. But, I felt antsy for the show to just get on with it. This post-scorched-earth future and all the people in it are so mandatorily temporary that whatever happens there feels inconsequential. It has tempted me to skip some weeks and fast forward to just see what happens and hope the next half of the season is better. Hopefully, the surprises to come will be worth the wait.

The Last Day

Warning: Spoilers
I can tell that people are going to love this episode, but I found it kind of boring. We have seen time travel and flashback heavy episodes before and this was not on par with them.

I just am not buying into the premise for this season. I guess that kind of disqualifies me, but I think there are good stories that can tell in this world and they're not doing it.

too many plots spoil the characters? spoilers! (in case I don't know how to do the spoilers thing)

Warning: Spoilers
First, I love all things Whedon, and Tanchaoren. So I'm a sad fan, not a troll. I'm really trying to hang in here, but I feel like this series is trying to do too many things at once, and the characters are getting lost.

First, what's up with Agent May? She just got stabbed in the leg. How is it not a first priority to get her back up and kicking ass? It's not like she lost her hand, or her arms??

And making her the maternal figure who nurtures Robin? That is way off book. I like my May guarded and fierce.

Finally, when we last left our heroes at the end of S4, there was something brewing between May and Coulson. I know there are later explanations for that not developing. But it only explains HIS reluctance. And given May's history, if she'd opened up and was rejected, she would be so shut down.

Any narrative that tries to take on time travel has its work cut out for them. And if the whedon -tanchoern team can't get it done, I don't know who can. But they also had all of these plot threads to continue, and they add more...?

I just went back to Season 3, just to see how it felt. And it felt right.

This season is in a tail-dive, and I hope they can pull it up.

I don't want to have to live through Buffy season 7 again.

:)

Story Arc ??? More Like Story Pretzel

The writers are out of control and the past few episodes prove my point. All these "time shifts", flash -backs and -forwards who can possibly keep track who is where and what's happening when?

It doesn't make sense.

Warning: Spoilers
I had to rewatch episodes 5,6, and 7 to see if I missed something. This episode suggests May raised Robin. I mean was this in an alternate timeline or what? Robin is little, May is piloting the Zephyr en route to the lighthouse, presumably after robin, her mom, Fitz, Enoch and the Brittish guy had already gone down into the lighthouse this first time. Robin predicts they survive the crash. Later on May is brought into the ruins of the Zephyr by Voss and introduced to an elderly Robin and through the episode you find out May raised Robin in the lighthouse but May doesn't have any memory of this. It's even more confusing when you know robin grew up lighthouse but was "waiting" for May to return. I mean how could May raise her and still be from 70 years in the past. So confusing!
